The Icehouse Game Design Competition (IGDC) is a periodic contest open to any previously unpublished game played with Icehouse pyramids.

The Winter 2008 IGDC is a design-restricted competition:

"All games must require two Treehouse sets, of matching or different color spectra: two Rainbow sets, two Xeno sets, or one of each set. A game need not use every piece in two sets, but it should not be playable with only one set."

This Geeklist will provide an overview and links to each of the eight games entered. Since most of the games do not yet have a BGG listing, somewhat appropriate placholders have been used.

***Anyone who wants to do so may judge games*** by submitting an e-mail
to the Coordinator with a partial or complete list of competing games, ranked from "best" to "worst" (or "least best").

There are no fixed criteria for ranking games; but a game is generally considered "great" if it is clearly described, is fun to play, and has enough depth or strategy to be replayable. Each judge, however, is free to rank games based entirely on personal preferences.

The deadline for ranking games is February 5, 2008.

More info on the IGDC, including how to vote, can be found here:

Martian Gunslinger, by Shane Tilton, is an abstract Western theme boardgame.

"In the western areas of Mars, where men are men and the horses love them for that, is the setting for our tale of power, control and a really nice peanut butter and jelly sandwich. This is where the land is untamed, the people are wild and lawlessness reigns. Do you have what it takes to make your mark on this dusty land and call yourself a true Martian Gunslinger?"

Virus Fight, by Jorge Arroyo, is a game of combat between two ever changing computer programs.

"Each player owns 4 types of 'computer instructions' and builds a small program which then runs around the board (computer memory) changing itself and trying to destroy the opposing programs."

Timberland, by Ryan Hackel, is Treehouse meets Volcano; tipping and hopping shared pieces for points.

"Players perform Treehouse actions on shared pieces scattered about a Volcano board until they collect enough points to win. Themewise, think of this as cultivating hardwood trees, and then sending out logging crews to harvest the fully grown trees, thinning out the forest over time."

Chicken Run, by David Artman, is a barnyard sports simulation.

"The folks down in Looney Hollow ain't famous for their culture, which is most evident when one notes their favorite sport: chasing down chickens. People come from all around the Hollow to watch when two families challenge each other to a Chicken Run. The only problem is that the spectators are usually so unruly and fanatical that they feel obliged to join in the game."

Be the first player to capture two chickens with family members of the same size as the captured chickens, while dodging and trampling unruly spectators and opposing family members.

Timelock, by Jason Darrah, is a 2-player semi-abstract strategy game where players race to match Stacks of pyramids to their Goal... before their Goal changes, that is.

"An agent of the Time Repair Agency, you must create a Timelock to stop the TimeLine from arbitrarily changing. When everything went haywire, an alternate version of yourself was created. If your alter-ego sets their Timelock first, they will take your place in the TimeLine and vice-versa. Once it's done, who is the real you?"
