I'm not to picky about games with "pasted-on themes", although sometimes and in certain cases there could be a more suitable theme to "paste on" that would make the game make more sense or simply to make it stand out as a more unique game.

Sure, mechanical games, for instance those in Knizias ludography, are at heart more or less are all abstract strategy games with themes added as a flavor. Generally that works well for me, but occasionally and in certain situations tend to be fairly awkward and sometimes really can be quite absurd.

In the GeekList below you can present new (and better?) themes for games!

I've always felt that Knizias mathematical "exploration game" in it's heart really is a Sandwich-making-game! Imagine this: The Investment Cards are different sandwich spreads - butter, cream cheese or mayo - and the numbered cards symbolize a variety of stuffings to make your sandwich, like cheese, ham, bacon, sallad, tomatoes and so forth. The last 10 card would be the top piece of bread to finish of your sandwich. The five different "colors" would be fivetypes of sandwiches with its own possible ingredients numbered 2-10. With this theme you could even throw in special bonuses like for example "Complete BLT"!

Well, the mechanics and theme works well together in this game but wouldn't it be great to see the old Settlers as a Crimelord game? The hexagons would be a variety of city blocks (commercial, slum, harbors and residences), the Villages would be remade into small bosses and the Cities as bigger bosses. The Robber could, within this theme, become the very opposite - the Police!

I love games with Greek and Roman themes and I'm very fond of Attika, especially as a 2-player "abstract". But in my mind it feels somewhat like a "bacteria game".

Not the usual "go-to-the-cave-grab-the-treasure" game, but divers diving for pearls, or making photos of fish
