I played this game this weekend with three other gamers. As you might expect we didn't get to finish it but we got about a third through.

My impressions are somewhat mixed. Each turn moved along fairly quickly (which was good), the only trouble was that each turn was very repetative. Shuffle your massed units up and down the line, make one or two attacks, get new units to replace the ones just killed, rinse and repeat.

I've only just bought this game (GMT sale) and I came away a bit dissappointed and thinking I'll sell it at the next opportunity, which will be at the club's games auction in March. However, I've now got it set up at home and I'm enjoying solo'ing the game.

So it's has a reprieve

Just picked this up, and have played a couple of games, (only finished one). Decent enough block game, but sucks that it's hard to field a well-rounded army without spending tons, ditto the maps, and there are not too many interesting scenarios that use just the 13-16 maps. Tried to create a 2 vs 1 scenario with my kids. didn't go too well. Retweaking and hoping to play again this afternoon.

My most recent was a 2-player game of Here I Stand using the new 2-player variant and Diplomacy deck that were published in C3i from GMT Games. It was my first game, so I took the Protestants and my friend Andy the Papacy. I had read through the rules, but there are a lot of rules in Here I Stand. Fortunately, Andy knew the rules better than I did, and you can ignore many of the rules sections if you play the 2-player version.

The game started, as it always does, with me nailing Luther's 95 Theses to the Wittenberg door. I had horrible early luck with the dice, whiffing in my first three conversion attempts. I also drew small cards, so I wound up spending cards to translate the New Testament in German rather than seeing the Gospel spread across Europe.

Later on, my luck changed greatly for the better. I drew good cards and rolled good dice in Turns 3 through 6. Even better, I had Trace Italien which allowed me to build a fort that cut off the Hapsburg's communications when Andy tried an incursion into Western Germany in Turn 5. I kept converting spaces and won an auto-victory based largely on a big swing in controlled spaces.

This game has a lot of luck, but it's a ton of fun to play.

Tried this game twice. The second game went 5+ hours and, frankly, just didn't seem worth the time investment. If I'm going to spend 5+ hours on a miniatures game, I want 3D, painted miniatures and terrain. I will note that other players on the Geek insist that once you get the hang of the game, it can be completed in under 90 minutes.

I played Napoleon against a friend of mine, I was French, he was Allied. He let me march straight up towards Brussels, then tried to trap me with all his forces! After a series of very lucky rolls, I eliminated his British contingent having lost only a few cavalry, and was able to hold off his unaided Prussians afterwards.

A good game, but very dependent on dice rolls. He probably should have won, but I got lucky with a couple cavalry charges (although one charge, 5 on 1, was a clear winner from the start!).

Decided to give this a spin. Bought it back in 2005 and have only played once. I like these Attactix wargames they are simple, low counter density but fun packed little numbers. I played this one solo and it worked really well. Germans were very fortunate in that turn one brought storms which allows for German reinforcement advancement because the allies don't have the benefit of air cover and Jerry isn't so worried about being picked off by air attack. This is a very good little game which although simple in play still definitely has its moments!

I thought I would do better this time around, but close assault was not as successful as the first time so after 6 turns I only had bagged 18 Chechen units and lost all my vehicles.

I need to solo this game for a few turns to try out various approaches, not that that will help...

I played Afrika Korps for the first time about a month ago. Afrika Korps is my first experience in gaming the North African campaign. I have played a few Eastern Front games in the past but warfare in North Africa has a much different feel to it than the Eastern Front. The guy I was playing with told me it would feel like a naval game almost. Less counters to deal with but you have more maneuverability. You have to be so careful what you do with your supply. I almost lost because I was without supply and I rolled for supply bad consecutively twice. I didn't even make it to Torbruk. My tanks were destroyed in a fight with an AE result, brutal. I really like this game and am going to try to find myself a copy for a reasonable price.

Played one scenario last week with a friend who hadn't played before.

We played Cannae.

Unfortunately for my Carthiginians I couldn't do what Hannibal and co. did in 216 B.C.

At least the Romans righted what once went wrong?

Heh.

I'm getting Expansion #1 on tuesday, and I have #2, and #3 on preorder from an e-tailer. My interest in the series was renewed shortly after GMT shipped expansion #2 and #3 (and the fact that i recieved cash for xmas).

Can't wait to play some Epic Cannae or Zama.

Just finished this one for the second time in a row. Tense and terrific game! We almost set it up and played it a third time.

I wrote a review of the game two nights ago:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/269472

There is a rules summary posted there as well.

I also posted some photos of our games:
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/images/game/25993

I know this game is brand spankin' new and there are probably folks who are still on the fence... especially after reading the negative comments about Land Without End. Rest assured, Drive On Moscow is a finished product. The rules are tight (we did not encounter a single issue during our games), and it is finely balanced and fun.

I played this about 20 years ago with my neighbor and sister. As I recall, we quit after about hour three when the neighbor was eliminated. I had a nasty koku bidding war for the ninja one round with my sister (she won), but poor assassination attempt rolls made us all just spend the extra money on ronin for most of the game.

I believe I played red.

This is an outstanding introductory wargame. The rulebook is nearly flawless, with simple explanations and a multitude of examples. The gameplay itself is very fun and intuitive for both beginners and seasoned wargamers alike. The forces for each side are modeled in such a way as to play differently and to mimic their real-world counterparts; the Russians are a wall of bodies with crippled movement and the Nazis are outmanned, but make up for it in maneuverability. There are numerous interesting decisions to make and they are quite varied over the course of the game, due to differences in reinforcements and the need to stay within your supply lines. The design really takes into account many of the elements of more complex wargames, but in a way that is very accessible to any player. My most sincere thanks to Mr. Nakamura and Adam Starkweather for the design/development and to Multiman Publishing for releasing this top-notch product. Boys, you had me at "hello" and now for the future titles in the series.

I have played this solo three times this week. I would love to play against another person. The game has a unique combat system that integrates air, naval, and land units very well. It is buckets of dice and not CRT. I usually don't mind buckets o' dice systems, but this one will take me a while to gauge the minimum amount of units I need to commit to guarantee success.

The game seems more about logistics than strategy/tactics. Each turn you are limited in how many units you can transport, and after you have used a naval unit, it goes all the way back to home base.

Just played my first full game of H:RvC. It was a 10 hour epic marathon, with all areas of the board seeing some action. With a couple more plays (i.e. a couple more days of playing), we wouldn't have to look things up in the rules (or at least not so often). Despite a lot of bad die rolls (I think I rolled 4 sixes in a row once), I avoided any crippling disasters (although Hannibal still has nightmares about the Straits of Messina). At game end Carthage had 11 provinces to Rome's 5 (!), but Carthage itself had just received 2 siege points! And would have fallen to Scipio Africanus on the last card play of the game, losing the whole thing for me, if I hadn't had the luck to have the 'remove 1 siege marker' card. A real skin of the teeth kind of game.
