This is the initial plan to cross the Meuse in the South

From gallery of Antisanti

The execution has been quite successful despite a few Allied counterattacks. Now the Panzer divisions have the field wide open to run wherever they like.

We are playing the Sickle Cut scenario with two of us splitting the German forces against one Allied opponent.

He has chosen to focus in the North area, sending almost all his armor units to stop Rommel around Namur. That is allowing the units in Sedan to break loose.

This is the situation in the South after the German phase of turn 5

From gallery of Antisanti

The French are starting to get some reinforcements in the South but all of them are infantry so the German has bet to move all the Panzers forward. This is the turn of the Halt orders. Will see which divisions get their movement hampered.

The end is getting close. Turn 9 after German phase

From gallery of Antisanti

The German made a couple of mistakes (both strategic and tactical) so the victory depends on an Allied error or a good amount of luck.

Happy New Year!

I’ve decided that my ASL collection has not seen much love for a long time. it’s pretty hot here today and we are recovering from out New Years Party, so I took the opportunity to set up Bucholz Station, and old SL scenario and try it solitaire.

I’m generally finding the rules are easy to remember, so some grey matter has survived!

The Germans have broken 3 squads in the central hill, but the Americans survived a point blank 36 FP attack, so hopefully they can recover and return the favour!

In hindsight, this scenario may have been more appropriate, set on New Years 76 yrs ago...

I got the game last Christmas and played it though a time or two in preparation for a mini-con we were going to have here in London last March. Coronavirus has put an end to that for the time being unfortunately, so despite being fully organized with 6 players, factions assigned, and raring to go, we went into lockdown.

Excellent game even solo.

Well after playing the first two games in this series and Maria, it was time to give this one a try. There's a lot going on in this game with powers entering and leaving the war. That being said, the Bourbons have been dominating most of this game. Here is what the board looks like after the completion of 1745.

I am way overdue on playing this game. Warriors of God: The Wars of England & France, 1135-1453 was one of the first wargames I ever played and this was the first game I had ever preordered. It took years for MMP to publish this and then it sat on my shelf. I felt like playing something that was fairly easy to learn so it's on my table too. Here is the board after 3 years. Things are getting pretty crazy now that the board is full and betrayals are occurring left and right.

I acquired this game in a Mathtrade and it has been sitting on my shelf since Feb 2018. The map is now on the table, sitting under plexiglass. The counters have been rounded and the German forces have been set up for the 1st scenario. I’m halfway through the rulebook and just about ready to set up Soviet forces.
This looks to be an interesting and fun game.

I received this game as a review copy, my 2nd since I started my Bare Bones Wargaming channel on youtube.

Thus far, after 5 plays (One "clunker" two regular games playing two handed solo, one with the solo bot (with more planed) and one with my lovely wife) this game has made a good impression.

thumbsup Plays quick, minimal downtime
thumbsup Both players have only three choices of actions to take each turn making the game easy to learn and teach. My wife tried her first game last night and, including time to teach, it took us about 75 minutes.
thumbsup The game covers an often overlooked conflict.
thumbsup Game is simple, but not simplistic.
thumbsup Each side has multiple paths to victory
thumbsup Components are excellent
thumbsup Each of the five games has had a different flow and feel
thumbsup This game comes with more dice (24!) than I have ever seen in my life...which is good as I love dice.
thumbsup Rulebook is generally clear.
thumbsup This game has a ridiculous amount of play testers listed and it shows in the final product.

thumbsdown While the rulebook does have key items highlighted, there were a few that were not and should have been, IMO. For example the rule of USN fleets returning to Malta after combat on page 8.
thumbsdown Land battles are a fight to the finish so if both sides have around 4-5 blocks each (each block rolls one die and needs a 6 to cause a hit) you may be there for a bit.

Final Verdict: Keeper

This game strikes me as a good, light game to play with a non-wargamer (like my wife) or as a light filler for both FTF as well as solo. Between the topic covered and the fact that the game is on the verge of earning my coveted 3F rating (fast, furious, and fun) makes this a keeper for my collection along the same lines as Brave Little Belgium and Islands of the Damned: Wake Island and Peleliu.

Perhaps the best way to sum up my impression of the game is by saying that I look forward to future products from Fort Circle Games.

We were supposed to have a session of our live-vassal WIF game tonight, but the Axis player is AWOL so my fellow ally (W. Allies) and I (Sovs/Chinese) called it off. We're in July/August '42; Germans have just isolated Leningrad (bad), but haven't cracked the Dnepr yet. He is threatening Smolensk in the middle, though. And the aforementioned Quagmire in Greece continues, the Greeks and huge amounts of British, Australians, Indians, holding both Athens and Salonika.

Japanese just finished off Batavia in Dutch East Indies, so we'll see where Yamashita and company go from there. His eastern perimeter is very lightly held, so I'm guessing they'll go to Burma and try to take Rangoon and maybe push into India. We'll see...

I'm playing through a solo game of Red Typhoon. Going into the final turn, the Soviets have inflicted heavy casualties on the Germans, punched a hole in the German center, and taken Bryansk in the south.

It's a great game. Simple straightforward rules, interesting decisions for both sides, some neat special rules, and a nice map and counters. I hope to play it face-to-face when possible.

Played two games v the mechanical cat(solo). Great asymmetric war game. Great solo expansion as well for all of the races.

This arrived a few days ago. I just unboxed it and wow! The production quality is really outstanding. This is my first Fort Circle game, and I’m impressed.

New Year's resolution, to learn this highly acclaimed game I've had on my shelf for several years. The video's by Mike Whit have gone a long way towards flattening the learning curve. Thanks Mike from all us older guys who cringe at lengthy rule books....you've made it much easier to learn. Onto turn 3 of my first play through.

Dan and continue our campaign game into the new year! We completed the German half of turn 4 yesterday, and we will complete my Allied half of the turn tomorrow morning (and possibly another - we enjoy the leisurely pace of play over VASSAL. We can get a half turn done in less than an hour, and allow the other player to plan their move. I think the quality of our play is enhanced via this approach!).

Turn 4 (D+3, June 9, 1944) saw the weather turn overcast (3). Dan's activities included moving Panzer Lehr up in the center to plug the massive gaps in his line opposite the American 5th Corps, while once more counterattacking Commonwealth troops around Caen, employing the 12th SS and 21st Panzer divisions. The map below shows the current situation, with my planned operations (and the main assault forces for each) noted in red...

This continues to be an extraordinary gaming experience. I believe Simonitch's '4X operational series has become my favorite wargaming series of all time!

Happy New Year 2021! The first video release of the year features Roger and I going through the intricate maneuvers in the Dance of the Seven Pines. Who will win the hand of the Fair Oaks Station in this Savage two-turn contest?
