Our favorite games are often those with mechanics that depend on no hidden information, or those we can modify to play without hidden info even though they are normally played with hidden info.

What are games that meet the above the criteria? If you made house rules to play a game with complete info, please include 'em!!!

Come on, don't hide your stuff!!!

Hey, lemme see!

Gloria Mundi normally lets players hide their stuff behind screens. We tore down the screens and also use the following house rules:

1. Each player starts with 3 each of food, gold, and peace - so buildings can be bought earlier in the game. This ramps up the game quickly.

2. Each player gets a tribute token that can be used once in the game - with it you can force another player to pay the tribute to the Goth - it can save you when you can't pay, or prevent another player from buying a desireable building during her/his next turn.

3. Each player gets a building token that can be used once in the game - with it you can forcibly purchase another player's building. You pay him/her the building purchase price, and you get to take the movement points for purchasing a building, plus the building of course.

The tribute and building tokens lend some tactical tension that the hidden info presumeably provided. With the above rules, the game plays very fast and furious with some nice screwage!

I actually generally much prefer hidden information. I like nice short turns, and a lot of games with complete open information bring out analysis paralysis in people.

TtD though is one that seems to always keep a nice brisk pace. There's so many positive moves you can make each turn, you usually just take the best one you see that someone else could snap up first.

This game has perfect information from beginning to end.

To my surprise, I had to do quite a bit of searching through my rated games to find this one. (The one that immediately came to mind, Caylus, was already taken.) It turns out that, not counting abstracts, almost all of the games that I play have some amount of hidden information.
