This is the traditional monthly Thrift & Bargain Dumpster™.

A fitting place for rejects and leftovers spotted while thrifting and bargain hunting. If you please: cast those items in the T&B-Dumpster!

Add items you left wherever you were sniffing around. Don't fill the dumpster with truckloads of Monopolies, Trivial Somethings and other regular leftovers. But rather add peculiar items, items that looked like if the cat dragged them in or items that caught your eye in some other special way.
Regular stuff with a good story is obviously also worth mentioning. As a guideline, take this into consideration: "Do the thrifters want to know about this?"

In the description, try to mention the state the game was in, the asking price, the location and other details worth knowing about. Oh... and please close the lid behind you. Thanks.

Last month's T&B-Dumpster:
Wear protective gear before opening and be prepared to fend off any scattering rats.

I found Sharp Shooters at the Salvation Army on 28th St for $2.99. Looked to be complete, but I left it behind because I already have a copy and it doesn't look like something I could easily trade (44 people trading, 8 people wanting).

I also saw this box there. I already own it, but for $1.99 I figured, "Hey, I can trade this maybe or give it to a friend." Picked up the box. "Wait a minute, it's not heavy enough." Shook it. "Hmm...sounds like a puzzle." Opened it. It is a puzzle. A puzzle inside a Quarto box. shake Needless to say, I left it there.

I don't mean to be filling up this list with the usual suspects, but I'm ashamed to say that I was genuinely tempted to buy this thing, much as one is curious to find out what it would be like to fall off a cliff. Part of the attraction was that I've never actually seen one of these. I've seen Ungame numerous times, but not Reunion. Also, there's a certain amusement factor in owning this and trying to get my friends to play it. The looks on their faces would have been worth the purchase price.

But then I glanced at the back of the box. It depicted a card that had silhouettes of animals and the question, "How does this make you feel?"

Answer: Sick to my stomach. Back on the shelf it went.

I didn't look at the price, but it was at an ARC.

I left behind a Trippples game - it was missing about five tiles, no box and no rules. I have this game, if it had been complete at $1.21 I would have picked it up so I could have passed it along as a trade sweetener.

I also passedon 1776 the Birth of a Nation. I just wasn't sure about it. I think it was $1.61.

2 copies at $1.99. Almost picked one up, but remembered that I didn't much care for Scattergories so left them there!

A lot of the thrift stores I visit are in the NYC area since that is where I work. I find that both the GoodWill and the Salavation Armys really price a lot of their games too high especially if in shrink. One of the GW had Clue in shrink wrap and they wanted 7.99 for it. Another Good will had a Mindtrap 2 for 5.99.Earlier last year a different Goodwill had a Blokus used all taped up so you did not know if it was complete for are you ready...$14.99!! That is what I paid for a new version at Deep Discount.
I read the thrift list every week and you find games for 2.99 or 1.99. My thrift stores for the most part have very high prices. I guess it is the New York City rents. Although I must say that if it is a game they have no idea what it is (Like Civilization the Board Game) or if it looks like a puzzle (like We the People) then they have a tendency to put it in the 2.99 to 3.99 range. Anyway it makes for a frustrating thrifting experience here in the Big Apple. My stores in Westchester hate games and usually sell them for a dollar a piece just to move them out.

I was initially pretty excited to see a copy of this on the shelf, I've kinda had my eye out for one for a while. Much to my dismay, when I opened the nearly pristine box, the game itself was 1/2 eaten. Yep, that's right. Several of the pieces were missing, presumably in the stomach of whatever beast had chewed it's way through most of the remaining pieces. Not a bargain even at $1.99.

Today I went to this thrift-store not far from my parent's house for the first time. The place was very neatly organized with plenty of personel running this goodwill type of business.

Some items were on the expensive side (toys, clothes) while others were dead cheap... games!

The 3 games I bought were €0.70 each.

I did however leave plenty behind. A MAD Magazine Game (own already, no ebay value), a Jumbo Jet (a Monopoly type of game popular in the 70's), a Slogan (trivia game about adverts *yawn*), etcetera... and unfortunately a copy of Survive!... grrr... No rules, looked way too incomplete, the box was split on all fours.

That is the second time I find a Survive! in this state. Why-o-why can't these games survive a trip to the thrift store???

Someday... Someday!!!

Saw this at a VV, presumably for $2.99, their standard game price.

Got a brief laugh, then (somewhat incredulously) watched an in-crowd-looking 14-year-old pick it up with a couple of others to bring over to her dad. Saw it again a couple of days later, so presumably he had better taste than she did.

Spotted this just before christmas in a charity shop in Oxford. Original Kosmos version. Thought it looked interesting but it had a £15.00 price tag on it and I wasn't going to spend that much money on a game I knew nothing about.

Got home, looked on the geek and thought it looked interesting.

Had a chance to go back this afternoon and it was still there! Cunningly opening it I counted the pieces 111! 1 missing! I can't believe they had the cheek to price something that high when it isn't even complete!

I really want the game now as well!

I found this and thought it was a dungeon crawling game....was big and heavy. Then I look and it's some type of trivial pursuit trivia game. 3.99 price tag...and well it looks alright, but I got enough trivial pursuit already.
