This is kind of a follow on from my GMT Games Geeklist last week.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/27975

Thinking about wargames and the time period and region I was interested in made me wonder if there were others that I didn't know about. My original plan was to ask about pre-Civil War games set in North America. But then I realized that left out Age of Sail games set in the Caribbean. Then I realized maybe there were some interesting games set in Central/South America. So that led me here.

What are your favorite wargames, or what wargames do you reccomend, from the early history of the Americas, North/Central/South/Caribbean/etc.? For a time period lets say pre-Civil War (Since Civil War games are a Geeklist all on their own).

I've added the first few to get started.

I've played the first scenario on VASSAL. I like the system and I'm looking forward to trying other scenarios.

How about central America? This was the first wargame I bought where the components actually LOOKED good as well as provided a good game.

Another central American game - well, pre-Columbian, so was it America then? Low-quality components, and simple, almost primitive rules, but it does look like a game to try out.

And that brings my pre-ACW Americas-set game collection to a close (well, there's American Megafauna, but I guess that's cheating...)

EDIT: I do have a few American Revolution games too, but I'm sure those will be well represented!

The game that launched the card-driven wargame system. I think it's an excellent game. Some people don't like the battle card system, but there are variants available.

There are three of these games that cover various battles of the American Revolution. I have a summary sheet posted that outlines the actions during the turn to help you get started.

A great little block game that simulates the British Quebec campaign ending the Plains of Abraham. The French have to play a big delaying action to try to whittle the British down. A couple of things that make this game interesting even if you're used to other block games:

1) The use of dummy blocks. Not only do you not know what the blocks are, but you don't know if some of them are real or not. I wish dummy blocks were used in other games as well. Dummy blocks can't move by themselves--you have to have a real unit in the area, but it's great for bluffing.

2) Movement is simultaneous. You only get one move per turn and it's simultaneous revealed. You may attack a town only to have the French abandon the town on the same move.

Oh, and I've done a play summary of this one too.

Old, but I have heard a lot of good things about it (it is definitely before my wargaming time.). 1776 has a very dedicated following and can be found at some of the larger game cons, such as WBC and PrezCon. I believe the rules/system has gone through a couple minor revisions over the years and from what I understand, it is good fun. I actually bought it not too long ago, but I have not had a chance to play it. I hope to give it a go this year and perhaps I will re-read David McCullough’s book around the same time.

I picked this up on E-Bay some time ago and am dying to try it out. Some day, when there's a lull in the publishing business, I will try this out. Really. While not a favorite, it's an anticipated favorite -- is that close enough?

Last S&T issue produced under the editorial control of the old SPI. Adaption of the Wellington's Victory: Battle of Waterloo Game – June 18th, 1815 / Ney vs. Wellington system. Pinnacle of the old Red Simonsen graphics, and while I'm not sure how good the underlying Napoleonic system represents shock combat, it's still fun. There is a more complex system from Clash of Arms using a Frederican system (e.g. The Battle of Monmouth) and a much simpler system from GMT, already referenced above (e.g. Monmouth).

Edit: appears frequently at modest prices on E-Bay.

You might consider this Age of Sails miniature game derived from Wings of War/Glory.
It is on Kickstarter since yesterday:
http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1402889231/sails-of-glor...
It is doing pretty well. If the KS campaign will be a success (and it is pretty probable - the 30.000 dollars asked for have been reached in the first 8 hours) the USS Constitution and other ships for the War of 1812 will be released. You will be able to have young United States fighting on sea against the British fleet.
The release is expected in August 2013.

One of the BEST solitaire wargames I have ever played, along with being one of the best American revolutionary war games I have ever played, uses the Vietnam war solitaire system with a lot of meat on it to portray the American Revolutionary war. Intuitive solitaire game and a R Ben Madison Classic(Mound Builders, Death in the Trenches, Swing states).
