Our normal hosts, Beth and Doug, weren't able to host due to Beth's imminent child birth (good luck) so a smaller group of us got together last night at my house (since I had babysiting duties). Fun time had by all (even Dan though he wasn't victorious).
It being my house I excitedly got to choose the musical selection for the night. Not wanting to disrupt things too much I decided on: Sirius channel 24: '90's Alternative.
Soungarden Alice in Chains Rage Against the Machine Tool Hole (Dan groaned at this band)
Another couple of sessions at my house and I might just get the music selection into this decade. lol!!
Side note: My goal this year is to play every game I own at least once(expansions not included on the list, with the exception of AoS). Every week I try to get one or two oldies but goodies to the table. Capitol and, to my surprise, Acquire were chosen this week. Thanks guys!

This was at Wade's request as he'd missed out on the previous plays. All seemed to enjoy the game. Except maybe Pete, I think he thought it was an economic game as he had close to $800 at he end of the game and only 2 donations to churches.

I've been itching to get this game to the table again for quite some time. After explaining the game mechanics, I managed to peak Pete's interest, and Wade being an architect didn't take much convincing. Dan realized during the game instructions that there was a bidding mechanic to the game. Ut Oh... Dan doesn't like bidding games. But admitted at the end of the game that it was a pretty good game and the bidding was minimal.

Another great game that never seems to find its way to the table. This is one of Dan's favorites as he's really good at card counting. I myself have played it twice before, and have come in dead last both times, but still enjoyed playing. This game was no different, dead last and still enjoyed myself. And maybe, just maybe, I might have learned a few things that might help me in my next attempt at Acquire.

One of my recent game buys. Great filler with substantial wronkage. Great game!! Even Dan , who I mentioned previously hates bidding games, agreed that it was a very good game. (in his words "its fun and short".. lol)

Meanwhile, Joe, Steve, and Larry joined Thursday Usual Suspect Games regulars at my house for Group 1.
We started with this, which Joe had brought and was anxious to demonstrate. We had already started when Larry arrived, so he sat in for me after the first turn. It was a good game, with over-the-top production values that sortof got in the way as we slowly learned what to look for and what to do.
Chris was the one player not able to claim a Wonder, so we immediately wrote him off as a possible winner. As it turned out, the Monument points more than compensated and he won going away with 60 or so points. The others finished with about 50 except Larry, who couldn't overcome the first turn "advantage" I provided.

Joe bailed after Utopia, and two of the Remainers mentioned Beans, so we played that. It's one of my favs, so I'm always up for this.
On a roll, Chris somehow quickly gained nine coins from his first two harvests and was from that point labelled as wronk-bait. Unfortunately, nothing we did stopped him from winning with 15 points, but it was closer than we thought since I had 14 and everyone else was close behind.

Dithering about what to play next, we resorted to our favorite filler. Jeff proceeded to demonstrate how not to draw cards from the pool AND how not to sit downstream from the person drawing great. After five rounds he finished with 95 points, while Steve, on the strength of many pass cards, won with 29.

Chris departed, and since Steve had brought his new Condottiere game we played that. An outstanding game ensued, with everyone having chances to win and much excellent play to prevent a premature end. The final battle happened at the juncture of three territories with everyone's hand nearly exhausted. We all had Drums down, but Steve had one more Merc than Larry and I and thus scored the win!
