Well, my wife is out of town for three nights... then Steve's wife is out of town for two nights - which makes it really easy for us to create our own mini game convention.

Here's the plan:

MONDAY
Heroscape Night

TUESDAY
"normal" Game Night

WEDNESDAY
Die Macher

THURSDAY
Wargames... and then Party Games

FRIDAY
Lite Game Nite

FRIDAY NIGHT

The Steve's opened the night with a Battlelore adventure - which, sadly for Steve G, didn't go so well for the Goblins. Steve C's Earth Elemental tore them up... ouch.

FRIDAY NIGHT

Four of us attempted (successfully) to keep Mordred's men from taking over England in this dice-y little game from Martin Wallace. The lead see-sawed back & forth... Mike was always the noblest of the four of us (Richard & I were, shall we say, "politically expedient" in our dealings with Mordred) and took the early lead. Richard did quite well for a while, then Mordred's men began destroying his cities. As we closed in on the end of the game, I reached 21 points (a game high, I think) but Richard took out my city to build a village & that allowed Will to hang on for the win.

Will 19
Mike 18 (3 gold)
Mark 18 (1 gold)
Richard 16

I need to find a scoring track for the game - it would be a lot easier to make decisions (particularly in the late game) if you could quickly see people's relative score rather than having to count it up on the board each time.

FRIDAY NIGHT

While we attacked Mordred, four folks were building the kingdom of Kingsburg... I don't know much about the game except that Steve C won by building the entire lower line of point-producing buildings.

And that Joe didn't do that well.

FRIDAY NIGHT

In the first of two games, Mike, Will, Richard & I attempted to save the world from deadly epidemics. We played using the intro set-up (4 epidemic cards in the deck) and had the Scientist (me), the Dispatcher (Mike), the Researcher (Richard), and the Medic (Will).

The early going seemed to go pretty well - two quick cures & no real outbreaks. Then, Africa went "hot" and we were up to 4-5 outbreaks in a couple of turns. (Yikes.) We managed to get another cure in play while fighting infections in Asia & in the States... but time ran out (the player deck) before we could get the information needed for the final cure to a research station.

We discovered later that we were playing incorrectly: once you've cured a disease, it no longer takes actions to remove cubes - you just have to move into a city. (We played you had to spend an action.) NOTE: I think that's what we discovered - someone correct me if I'm wrong.

In the second game, Kelly, Steve G, Joe & Will managed to cure all four diseases for the win.

This is a great cooperative game - I need a copy of this one. Sigh.

FRIDAY NIGHT

John had requested this oldie but goodie from designer Sid Sackson the other night, so I brought it with me. It's a bit like his classic game, Bazaar, but there's more theme & interesting decisions involved.

Joe wants me to note that he would have won the game if I hadn't hosed him over twice by selling stuff that he was about to sell. As it was, he got close (20$ short of the win), but Richard, who'd lagged behind most of the game, managed to put together a couple of nice sales & sneak past us.

FRIDAY NIGHT

John & I are both fans of this near SdJ-winning game... and we introduced Joe to the joy of travel.

I was sucking wind early, but found a way to shoot ahead & India and never really looked back. The +1 day bonus tokens were in the home stretch & that just lengthened my lead.

Wow... the Traitor won! Mike managed to pull out a victory over Will, Steve G, Steve C & Kelly... even after being correctly accused.

FRIDAY NIGHT

Joe taught us this very interesting little auction game that reminded us a bit of Geschenkt & a bit of For Sale... but is its own animal. There's some element of bluff involved in the bidding, particularly when your card comes up late in the display.

I was doing well on cash but not much on points - then I managed to soak down a huge haul of cats on the final auction. (John had been counting dogs - and didn't realize that three of us had lost dogs in the random pull.)

FRIDAY NIGHT

Steve G. (Belvidere), Kelly (Arthur), Will (Percivil), Mike (Gawain), and I (Galahad) played Shadows. Kelly and Steve G. had never played before so we did a rules explanation and we were off on our quest.

Mike was the Traitor and he played it wonderfully. Steve G. went to accuse and I half believed he was going to pick me. Luckily, he picked Mike correctly. But, in the end we were overwhelmed by siege engines and just couldn't get enough grail cards to post the victory. Will completed the Excalibur quest and siege engines started to pop up every time the excalibur bad card would come out.

Mike wins as the Traitor.
