I’m fairly new here. I've been a member for a while, but only recently started posting and playing T&E with friends. So what better way to introduce myself than telling my life history of gaming, right? There's probably been geeklists like this before, but this one is MINE, so it's unique.

Of course, I could start with the games I played in elementary school, but that would be boring. And I could start with Monopoly, but once I played that with anyone other than my family, I discovered that other people cheat. And no one really likes it, anyway. So let's start in junior high...

Ah, junior high. I went to a private school where we worked in cubicles instead of a traditional classroom. My friends and I started playing battleship (on paper) across the cubicle walls. It took a very short time period before we were adding rules, allowing limited movement of the ships, even repair possibilities. This was the beginning of a long history - a history of never being satisfied with the rules of a game as written!

Actually, I'm including all the Gamemaster series here (but I'm saving A&A for later in the list). When these started appearing at Toys R Us, we got hooked. And yes, we did make up a few house rules, but not as many as we did on other games. Unfortunately, it was impossible to play these across cubicles, so we had to work harder at our schoolwork to get more free time to play games. So it's actually reasonably fair to say that games got us through high school at an advanced rate...

I ran across this game at a Parent-Teacher supply store, of all places. Fascinated, I saved my allowance until I could get it. After that, it was only a matter of time until I got all the expansions, too, and we were setting up elaborate massive WWII scenarios with tons of soldiers and tanks. This was 10th grade, I believe, and having worked ahead, a friend and I were playing a quiet game off to the side of the classroom when the teacher came over. He randomly decided that if we wanted permission to continue to play, we needed to let him in on the game. We graciously allowed him to be the Belgians (I think that's who it was). He was okay with that until it came time to roll for a battle between his dinky armor and a few German tanks. "You do realize that if I can't win, this game time is over, right?" he asked. That may be the first time ever that the Belgians have conquered...

I still remember the day my friend bought this one (not too long after I got Squad Leader). I was going through the box contents while he drove. I pulled out the rulebook and announced the number of pages. Gleeful laughter filled the van. Yea, that's how we were. Long rulebooks = greatest games. Or so we thought at the time. While I went more with the realistic military side of things - Squad Leader, Assault, etc., my friend went with the sci-fi - SF Battles, Battletech, etc. So when we couldn't get official free time to play games, we were working on tech layouts of starships or battlemechs...

Even then, we were easily swayed by the insanely goofy. Blip the Teleporturtle is all shades of awesome. And he's not a lemon. Don't say that. It makes Blip feel sad.

Treading the line between the insanely goofy and the insanely cool was Car Wars. We got it all. Uncle Albert's catalogs, Tanks, boats, everything. One friend even bought the kill stickers for his car... and since there were some small animals included on the stickers, for him that wasn't really exaggerating... The more detailed we got into Car Wars, the more we started leaning toward role-playing. We ended up running some serious Middle-Earth Role Playing sessions, but that was about as deep as we got into RPGs.

And how could this list possibly be complete without Diplomacy? Once we discovered this brilliant game, we completely fell in love. No houserules needed (except for trying to make it more interesting for fewer players). This game is still today one of our absolutely honored ones... we just can't ever find enough players for it. For some reason, our wives don?t like games wherein their husbands will lie to them. Huh. Go figure.

In college, I drifted away from games for a while, but only briefly. Soon I was taking A&A along with me to life in the dorms. Late-night A&A games became a tradition.

(Did I mention all the house rules? I mean... SOMEbody had to add nukes to this baby, right?)

When I came home from college one summer, I found my friend John managing a TCBY. He hired me and two other gaming friends from high school, and we soon had a dedicated gaming table in the back of the store. The only things that kept interfering with our Titan games (and others) were those dang customers.

With all of this, it was inevitable that we would venture into game design. Back in high school, we did some minor experiments, including my attempt at a GI Joe role-playing game, but my friend John finally succeeded in 1992. Power, Prestige & Politics is a brilliant game (IMHO) that utilizes tons of fun negotiation. Our only disagreement is that he insists on keeping it absolutely generic, with the political factions labeled A, B, C, D, etc., and the bills labeled only by number. I think the game would be MUCH more appealing if he'd let me unleash my graphic design on it and come up with creative (and occasionally silly) names for each group that bear slight resemblances to real-life groups.

As would be expected, in the 90s we also got caught up in CCGs. While some friends of mine got into Magic, I never did. As a lifelong Tolkien addict, MECCG was the game for me. I even got a scenario published in the Casual Companion book! Sadly, Iron Crown lost the license as the movies approached. Now where DID I put those thousands of cards, anyway?

Marriages and jobs and other sundries of life have kept us from gaming as much as we'd want since college. But we're slowly re-establishing regular game days. Settlers of Catan was a big factor both in that and in my meeting new gamers in my church, etc.

Nothing has fueled my game obsession more in recent years than Heroscape. I've bought every expansion and multiples of almost everything. I've driven four hours to play in tournaments. I've met lots of new friends through heroscapers.com and we've organized our own tourneys. Heroscape combines so many elements of so many games I've loved throughout the years that I can't get enough of it. Plus my kids think it's great, too! What could be better?

I just bought Pandemic in pozy.com's "Steal of this particular five minutes." And I have no idea when I'll get to play it. I still have to play Descent and A Game of Thrones! AHHHH!!! I don't have enough time to play all the games I want!!! This addiction is spreading... spreading like... like... something... it'll come to me... um...
