Here is where my addiction really started. My cousins taught me, mainly to have someone easy to beat, age 4.

Most gamers, when they look deep in their soul, admit to having played it. I loved it as a kid and had a lot of good times. Age 5.

So my gaming awareness increases over primary school, Battleships,Fish, et. al., but one day Michael, one of the cousins who addicted me to games, bring this home and my love of multiplayer games is cemented. Age 11.

This is my core memory of wargames in my early teens. Getting Rammed between Michael and Russell, the other evil cousin, as France or Russia, while they had the cool Countries. A massive game, which provided a good grounding in really reading rulebooks, which I really recommend, if you play with a bunch of sneaks and rule lawyers like I have over the years. Age 12.

A smaller version of Warlord, but the one I learnt to play. I was given this as a present for my 13th birthday by, you guessed it, M&R. I love it and there is nothing quite like nuking Brabant, or making a break for Kotlas.

My teenage years flew by, with way too much D&D and lots of other RPGs and too little study. In between hundreds of D&D sessions, I played a lot of Kings and things and this badly written Gem. Age from 14-23. Oh yeah, I ended up working as a checkout chick after year 12.

Somewhere I learnt to play this, no I remember, Russ taught, what a surprise. I had some bad experiences and did not play for 10 years. Then I thought I should give it another try. I had some transferable skills and won a couple of tournaments. Hard work, but worth it for the people you meet and the places you can go to play it. First learned, about 15, really played from age 30.

Yes, just like Monopoly, look into your soul and you probably played it. I learned it to loan some money to a mate of mine who was studying, by ostensibly buying some cards off. Three years later I have a new flatmate who notices my 100-odd cards and shows me his folder with a Black Lotus. And we played, a lot, a real lot. And went to the FLGS, and played a lot more. Age 29, really played, age 32.

So playing at the FLGS (Wargames Warehouse, RIP) I see some guys talking about having wood for sheep, which made me wonder about their personal habits for a second. Then I learnt Settlers and became a born again Eurogamer. Age 33.

I now have a Diploma and am in my last year of my bachelor, but good games keep getting introduced to me, to distract me from study. Case in point, a mate says come play this game about power stations. After paying out on him, I figure a bad days gaming is still a good day. Which proves an open mind is a good thing sometimes. Age 38
