Another wonderful game night. We continue to draw a healthy crowd of gamers, eighteen on this night. We were joined by one new person, Jamie. We had an awesome mixed bag of regulars present. If you follow La Crosse Board Game Night postings on a regular basis (and who wouldn't?) you will recognize these names. Present were Rick, Eric, Derek (K) and Derek (M). Also Nick and Laura whose name tags said they were Knicked up and LO. (We never know what Nick's nom de jeu will be on any given night.) Also attending were John, whose name tag was, as usual, "me." This week he added (not Travis). Travis whose name tag said "Travis" started a name tag challenge with the simple addition of "not me" to his tags. Soon a series of not lines were present on name tags. Mark and James were present, as were Amy and Kathy and Karen, Vince and Mike and Brian and David. A bunch of people playing a bunch of games.

An up to date schedule of our meetings can be found at our meetup.com page:

Our guild on BGG can be found at:

If you are in the La Crosse, Wisconsin area you're invited to join us on Wednesday or Thursday night!

It has become our norm for at least one game played to be a "longer game," a game that will take all of the time we have available. The idea of "crayon games" caught the imagination of several of our players and Empire Builder was the crayon game of choice. the players were not able to play to the bitter end but played a whole bunch of Empire Builder. Mike had some really bad luck early in the game and was out almost before things got started. The flood came at the wrong time for him according to the notes. On the positive side, Amy celebrated her first victory on Game Night. It has been a long time coming and is well deserved. Congratulations!!

The scores looked like this:

Brian 2nd $95 Million
Laura 3rd $36 Million
James 4th $5 Million
Amy 1st $105 Million
Mike 5th $0 Million

A favorite made an appearance with four players. A reasonably close game whose scores came with a sound piece of advice. "Be a Farmer," the card says "hard work pays off." I'm guessing that Vince used well placed farmers to achieve victory in this game.

Here's the scores:
Kathy 63
Karen 81
Vince 99
Derek M 65

The game that asks the question what could be more fun than saving the world from horrible diseases run amok? We played with a scientist, researcher, operations specialist, and dispatcher. Two diseases were cured and things seemed to be going alright. As can easily happen, however, a couple of epidemics combined with a dangerous concentration of yellow plagued cities and the gruesome and terrible outcome became inevitable.

We lost. Eight outbreaks. Last three from yellow. Done.

Players:
Rick
Mark
Derek K.
Eric and Jamie

Scores:

David (newly arrived) and Mike (out of EB early) joined the Blue Moon players and launched into Hacienda. John communicated with some certainty that he made early bad choices and generally got spanked. The final scores reflect his assessment. Travis continued his winning ways.

Scores
David 79 4th
Mike 81 3rd
John 62 5th aka last
Travis 87 1st
Nick 85 2nd

Feelings differ on this game. Derek K. was the Fluxx kingpin this evening. He found will co-conspirators in Mark, David, Jamie, and Eric. (Eric stepped in early to replace the less than willing co-conspirator, Rick.) All seemed to enjoy the game.

Scores:
Mark not winner
David not winner
Jamie WINNER
Derek K. not winner
Erick not winner

According to our resident experts there is a right and a wrong way to play Ra. It's all about how you invoke Ra when you want an auction. Technically, the rules don't call for any specific kind of incantation. Our experts beg to differ. Ra must be summoned with a chant of Ra worthy of Ra. What is called for is a deep guttural Ra (probably spelled phonetically RhhhhA). For the most part the mostly new players captured the spirit of this instruction if not the actually noise. All I know is that as we battled virii at the next table, the Ra players were having an awful lot of fun!!
I started this game then bowed out to teach some more Pandemic. Kathy took the fine strategic position I had left her in and played to victory (that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The scores:
Mark 32
Eric 28
Jamie 39
Derek K. 40
Kathy 45

A second game of Pandemic for the evening. Mostly new players with some different roles. This time we had a medic, a scientist, a dispatcher, and a researcher. Once again things looked good as we cured the Blue and Black diseases fairly quickly. Pesky yellow didn't seem like a big problem but when it blows up, it blows up fast. Once again the actual cause of death was eight outbreaks but it was yellow that outbroke--big time.

Score:
Virii Winner
Vince Loser
Karen Loser
Derek M Loser
Rick Loser

If it's the end of the evening at La Crosse Game Night and there's just a little time for one more game, odds are the game will be For Sale. We love this game! Six players definitely change the game from it's five and four player incarnations. But it's still fun, for sure. Jaimie did great for her first game, heck, she did great for any game.

Scores:
Rick 30,000
Jamie 52,000
Mark 45,000
Derek K. 51,000
Karen 30,000
John 42,000
