A big Fresno welcome to Richard Irving (rri1 here on the Geek) who, thanks to the wonders of gainful employment, finds himself hanging out in our neck of the woods for the next few months.

That brings the total number of "name twins" in our group over the last five years to 5:
- Randy1 (Stoller) & Randy2 (Spain)
- Aaron Kellar & Aaron Croteau
- Matt Jenkins & Matt Richaud
- Richard LeQuieu & Richard Irving
- Steve Cates & Steve Ganzenheuber

Braeden & I got there a bit earlier than we'd planned, so we got to play this wonderfull bit of real-time silliness with Richard I. Braeden's mistake on the last round gave me the point I needed to squeeze out the win.

We've had good luck with this one at home as a 2 player game... but it went a bit long (Braeden told me "I'm getting bored with this game, Dad" about 2/3's of the way through the deck). I don't mind the silly randomness of the game - but Braeden had it right. I think the sweet spot is going to be 3 players, not 4+.

Matt was closing in on a win (all his cavemen & women on the board) but the T-Rex was sent his direction & essentially knocked him out of contention. Richard, Braeden & I were all tied at the end - Richard attacked both Braeden & I in an attempt to get the solo win, which went awry & handed the win to Braeden.

Braeden 6 (3 developments, 3 adults)
Mark 5 (2 developments, 3 adults)
Richard I 5 (3 developments, 2 adults)
Matt 4 (1 development, 3 adults)

I've played a LOT of Showmanager - and both the theme & the graphic design of that game is better than Atlantic Star... but the underlying system is solid as a rock. I thought Richard L had the win sewed up, but I managed to get more out of my cards than he did.

Another outing for what's becoming our "old standby" (replacing Industrial Waste and/or Bang!)... once again, Will had a military world to start with & the rest of us managed to draw his cards. I once again used the Trade Federation to build up scary card gathering powers (blue goods were worth 9 cards for me in trade) and managed to generate 6 vp's & 17 cards in the final trade/consume round.

I taught this overlooked gem to Will & John - and we proceeded to have an extremely close game. My discovery of the final monument was my margin of victory.

Edit: Thanks to Jonathan, I have reduced my winning score by 630 pts.

John & I started this dice game (which we both like) and called it about 1/3 of the way in when I managaed to acquire the General (+2 dice) in addition to two other dice adding powers to put me 3 dice ahead of him on the curve. (We've both played this enough to know where that leads... so we called it a win for me & grabbed a different game.)

So, to close the night, I taught John this lightning fast baseball card game. John was up by one run going into the bottom of the ninth... I managed to get a runner on 3rd base with 1 out. My hand was filled with defensive cards, so I went to my pinch hitter - and pulled a double play to end the inning & the game. Sigh.

We completed the first game week as the Heroes fearing even more pain flee the dungeon second level at Starfall Forest. The Second level called Bag of Bones possessed a skeleton king with 12 extra wounds and 2 extra armor and pierce. Once killed he turns to a pile of bones which the heroes had to place in a sarcophagus to allow him to finally rest in peace. However, if they failed to place him in the tomb in a timely fashion he resurrects to kill again.

Being especially evil this time, I played a trap card at the perfect time to disallow the heroes from dropping the bag of bones in the tomb by 1 Movement point! then the follow up turn I played a double move card to bring the skeleton king back to the center of the board putting the heroes back at least 2 turns. With the King's Pierce 4 I was able to kill the Mordrog the Tank, and also kill Grey Ker and Andria Runehand with a mixture of skeletons and Razorwings. In addition, cycled through the deck and they opened a chest for a total of 14 Conquest.

The heroes didn't fair so well. They opened a chest with no treasures giving them a consolation prize of 1 Conquest. They decided it wasn't worth more pain and left after flipping a glyph for 3 Conquest for a total of 4.

Session
Heroes 4 OL 14

Week 1 Heroes 11 OL 25

Note: I think the way to play it would be to set up a fire line so the heroes could pass off the bag of bones one to the other and easily make the 10 spaces instead of attempting to use knockback and run the whole way with Andria using up fatigue. But, I didn't offer any suggestions devil

Steve G., Mike and I played this as a free for all scenario. Two of my guys were killed early and the third limped into the corral to wait it out and let the other two fight but he was killed soon enough then I went to put the kid back to bed and they two duked it out to the end and I think Mike won with his rifle out ranging Steve's Shotgun.

We finished a second week on 5/10 and it got even worse for the heroes. Darkness is seemingly unstoppable in Terrinoth. As the Overlord I upgraded the Beast category to silver making those monsters significantly tougher. The heroes picked up a copper treasure Plate Mail Armor and equipped the tank making him really tough to even get a wound on the rest of the squad is completely squishy however and I killed each of them at least once and Spiritspeaker Mok twice with a combination of Razorwings swooping in then flying back, a Maticore with a Rage card which allowed him to attack 4 times, and two hell hounds raining a breath of fire on three in the group. Steve G. abandoned the dungeon with the weaklings and tried to at least pick up the treasure and get out of there with his tank. Unfortunately for him, I played Curse of the Monkey God and turned him into a monkey negating his armor and then wiped him out.

I think the next step for the heroes is to do some serious shopping and hope the beasts don't show up in the next dungeon.
