This is the first time I've attended a game con. I really enjoyed meeting new gamers, figuring out that we've been playing rules wrong at our local game group for years shake, showing off some of my unique games, and seeing all the new stuff. Here's a list of games played.

Aldie posted up about Werewolf Friday night and I sat in on a couple of games with fellow BGG'ers. I was a villager the first game and the sorcerer the second.

Seth (sedjtroll) was a real questioner in the group getting things moving and he was the seer in the first round which when he was accused he claimed he was the seer and that one person was the Werewolf and that werewolf had said who was most likely not a werewolf giving up their cohort.

Second game, the werewolves got me on the third night, even though I was a Sorcerer. This time Aldie and Linda were werewolves and I didn't stick around to see the end but heard later that maybe if Aldie gave up Linda he could've pulled it off.

We played about half a game of this at the BGG meetup in Knuckles Sports Bar.

Sean, Greg, and I were playing and Sean was smoking us with Aussie, Africa, and a good start on Asia. I had part of S. America and Greg Asia. Then a waiter came over and told us we couldn't play in the Bar. Damn! We just wanted to get a good beer and pretzel game going shake

[avatar=gf_ripper] not sure what Sean's avatar looks like.

I'd told Seth before hand on his geeklist that I wanted to try out the prototype he was a designer on called Wizard's Tower. Seth, Andrew and I played and it's an excellent game I hope it gets published because I'd like to pick up a copy.

The game board is broken up into five regions (the four quadrants and a center diamond) and the five regions represent a die roll of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5/6. You roll a single 6 sided die and 2 color dice that represent the six colors that are on multiple squares in each region of the board. On your turn you roll the dice and place your color cube on the two colors in that region (or possible modify one of the dice by discarding a die}. When you get a group of 4 cubes orthogonally adjacent you build a tower that gives you special abilities to do things like attack other towers better or defend or modify placement.

Seth won out in a close game.

I came in about turn 5 on this because I came in late. In an area majority game that is really a disadvantage but I play it a lot so it was a big challenge for me.

Derk won with 44 points and I actually got second place with 29. I really pushed for one guy to place his guy in a certain way and then I totally hosed him on my next move. I felt really bad about the back stab.

This was the last game I played at the con. Derk, Doug Garrett, Greg and I played it in about 45 min. Nice little super filler. Build your city in the best way possible to score VP. The city building mechanic is a cool little part where you place cards on top of each other that allow them to spread out.

Doug Garrett pulled this game out from his recent order from Germany. The game is lavishly produced. The artwork on the tiles and such is great and the cardboard is super thick.

I didn't really catch on to the play till the end but I'm hoping this one gets printed over here because I'd like to pick it up.

This was a little game that I brought along with me. It's an electronic game where you pass certain color disks under the arch and the computer picks up on whether the right or wrong color was passed. There's three diffent games you can play with it and solitare is also an option if you put in the rebounding rubber band.

I played multiple times over the weekend, it's a 5 min filler. Shelly Garrett got a kick out of it. Seth was obsessed with it Saturday night playing the code buster version at 4 AM trying to get to level 12.

Aldie thought it he might write a code buster program after watching the game in action. Though that might be because of the late hour

Seth also was playtesting this. Aliza played this with me after the Kublacon math trade.

I really enjoyed it. There's exploration, building your ship, production and shipping, and risk management. It's got a great theme. I'd like to see this produced.

Brain Freeze

This was the third prototype of Seth's I tried and I thought it was a great little speed game. This wasn't really Aliza's type of game.

The cards have different shapes and colors like green star or yellow donut. there's a chess timer with 30 seconds each and you play a card and hit the timer and your opponents clock ticks down until they match a card with either symbol or color and hit the timer until one player runs outta time. The game is one minute long so it doesn't out wear it's welcome.

Aldie as Andria Runehand, Derk as Spiritspeaker Mok, Mister X as Grey Ker (I'm sorry I forgot this guy's name, I also played Container with him so I should know his name), Mister Y and Z as Mordrog (two separate people jumped in to play this character), and I as Overlord played a Dungeon Level of this ongoing campaign.

My OL is extremely powerful in this early game. My Beast Category is upgraded to silver level and the heroes are still at copper making it extremely difficult to wipeout a monster in one turn. The level played was the number 20 dungeon level that is lead by a Master Naga with 8 additional wounds and one additional armor. I spawned Blood Apes early and they were able to kill Derk and Grey Ker. I spawned Ferrox later on and they got in some Bleed on Grey Ker before being killed. Dark priest also were part of the level and they got in some threat and a two curse tokens on Grey Ker making him worth 5 conquest. Then they fought the Naga and he was tough. He killed the Tank and Grey Ker for 9 conquest! During the dungeon they did some shopping for better items. Mordrog was finally able to take down the Naga and score 2 conquest points.

One funny thing was Aldie rolled so many misses they group was convinced the die was cursed and Derk took the die and gave it to another table and said, "Keep this die away from us." Twice Aldie declared the double attack action and rolled two misses that's a 1 in 36 chance on the double action so it's very rare.

Session OL 15 Heroes 2
Game Week 6 OL 1 Heroes 0
Game Week 7 OL 1 Heroes 0
Game Week 8 OL 13 Heroes 2

Total OL 62 Heroes 17

This was the only scheduled game I actually played. I played with Sam, Bill, and Bob. Bob taught us the game and we went through the turns asking questions along the way. This game is extremely dangerous to the AP prone so beware. The downtime between turns is pretty extreme as well but that being said I really like the game. The cards and such are costed in a way that it provides difficult decision trees to figure out, do I take two actions to get a card I really want or do I take a slightly weaker card and use my other action to build something? I played through Age I and most of the way through Age II and I had to leave and the rulebook actually provided for an "Honorable Withdrawal" so I took it even though I was winning pretty well.

I made one really risky move that didn't pay off and weakened my military harshly. I'd like to play again but I think it would really shine as a computer AI game.

This was one of my favorite games of the con. Pillars with dice has been the tag most people have put on it. But, I like it way better for some reason. Aldie cheated and won because we did a rule wrong but I was able to complete all the artifacts and jump up around 80 points in the endgame I was 3 points behind Doug, which I should've and could've done one thing differently in the last turn to get 3 more points. Shelly wasn't far behind either.

Aldie 138 *
Doug 116
Me 113
Shelly 105

Kevin at the FFG booth ran a demo for me with this game. It's got custom dice so that's a big plus in my book. The army building is kinda neat there's gold, silver, and bronze level units, order tokens, and cards and you pick three in any combination you want.

I played the humans and he ran the necromutants he gave me a little advice on my turn and I ended up winning. I think I'll pick up a starter and a few boosters. The starter by itself is pretty good and it comes with all the power cards so it should be interesting and replayable with just that. I've read that it works out to 5 bucks a fig so getting a couple necromutant grunts for 10 bucks will probably make me limit my intrest in collecting it.

Cedric Chin ran a FFG time up in Cascades later and I taught a couple of young men how to play it.

I stopped by the Asmodee booth and played this as a demo. I was surprised with the quality of the game production. I'm really considering picking it up. I gotta run it by my wife to see if she'd play with me.

Asmodee also had Cash n' Guns Yakuza. I wish I had more time to check that out.

An excellent race game. It was so exciting to get the perfect combination of cards to win this one. I lagged the whole game and stromed down the final stretch with the right combo of abilities and cards. Not the shlocky mass market game I was expecting.

I played a ship vs ship version of this with fighters. It was a fun little scenario, we played as newbie nugget Vipers from Battlestar Galactica attacking a wounded Cylon Basestar we stumbled across during a training mission.

We each picked a character sheet that had a battlestar galactica character on it with a picture. If we could tell something about the character and thier role in the TV series, we were allowed to level up before we began. Unfortunately I picked Redwing, and I didn't remember anything about him (I've watched the TV series, I just couldn't remember him). There were about 10 or 12 people playing.

The ship vs ship rules made the game much faster than a normal game of battlestations probably would be, and everyone had fun. We were able to take out the wounded basestar (in part because its guns were inoperable although it was launching wave after wave of fighters at us), and it did some nasty damage to everything when it blew up because of its massive explosion radius.

This was actually my first battlestations game, and I'd like to try another one at some point, its pretty fun. I own it but have never tried it

First time I've played a full game of this. The game group I play with doesn't play this that often, and the one time they did I was playing a differant game.

I liked it, it was a 4 player game so it went pretty quickly. I understand that the expansion for this game slows it down although adds a number of things that some people like.

I enjoyed it.

My first game of Twilight Imperium. This is one game I really wanted to play at the con, because its hard to get 6 or 8 people together to play a 6 hour game.

We ended up having a full 8 players availible to play and we used a number of things from the expansion (including most of the expansion "role" cards), mines, most of the new races, etc.

It was my first time playing the game and I really enjoyed it. We started to setup around 10:15pm and began 11pm (I hadn't played before so in addition to setting up and drawing the map tiles they had to explain how to play, and interestingly enough, I was the only one of the 8 players who hadn't played before). We played until about 4am in the morning, so it was a good 5+ hours of game play. Peter (the guy from the Wealth of Nations demo) was able to keep things moving fast, otherwise it would have taken much longer. I was very glad we had someone like him to keep things moving, it made it much more enjoyable and smooth gameplay experiance. Thanks guys for the great game!

I joined in a session that was teaching this game. I decided not to play (even though playing the learning game gave you some bonus points for the tournament if you played), but I did enjoy re-learning it. I've owned the game for a long time and even played a few turns before, but it was nice to relearn it in case I ever do play again.

Another classic game that I played for the first time. I did enjoy it, but I think if I had to play caylus, I'd probably choose the CMC version instead if both were availible, since it is shorter and more streamlined (I own the CMC version).
Its not going to make it into my favorites list simply because there are other games I prefer, but I can see why its popular, and I wouldn't mind playing it again if others wanted to play it.

I really enjoyed this game. I'll be posting more detail on it later. Its due to be published in June, although a limited number of places (such as Endgame in SF) have it for sale early. I also like that the MSRP isn't inflated like a lot of of the newer games coming out are. Its $49.99 which means places like thoughthammer are going to sell it for around $35 which is quite reasonable. The company made a conscious choice to price it under $50 which I appreciate.
