The Adult Male Slumber Party is a gathering of friends every 3 months that spends an entire weekend gaming and just hanging out. Most of us went to college at either the University of Iowa or for the less intelligent, Iowa State

We have spread out around the midwest after graduating. The AMSP gives us all a great reason to get back together and catch up while playing some great games. The group meets in either New London or Waterloo, Iowa. However, friends come from as far as Illinois, Nebraska and Minnesota.

This event was hosted in New London by myself and my primary enabler, my wife. This AMSP had the smallest attendance ever. However, it was not due to $4/gallon gas but instead Mother Nature and Father's Day. Iowa is suffering from record level flooding right now that has destroyed entire towns and made travel very, very difficult. As a result several of our friends were unable to attend. We missed all of you that were unable to attend and hope to catch you at the fall AMSP.

Adam received the VIP award for this event. He braved the conditions and drove down to the AMSP. What is normally a 2 hour trip turned into a 9 hour marathon battle versus Mother Nature. Adam would literally drive till he wold come to a close road, call us and we would look at the DOT map to direct him to another open road. It was amazing how difficult this became as most every major road in SE Iowa was closed. Adam displayed tremendous stubborness and patience to deal with this and ended up making it. AMSP 1-Mother Nature 0.

We had 4 geeks attend including: Adam (D_Nose), Chadwick, Matt aka Chili Bean and myself.

While waiting for Adam to arrive the rest of us begin with a game of Um Reinfenbreite. I just purchased this game and was anxious to test my cycling skills. We played with the basic rules and a few of the more advanced rules. The game ended in a tie between myself and Chili Bean despite one of my racers being disqualified due to cheating. After reviewing the scoring of the Yellow Jersey we determined I would have won. This game was a ton of fun.

We still had some time to kill with just the 3 of us as Adam continued his epic struggle versus Mother Nature so I taught Chad and Chili Bean Yspahan. I ended up winning this game but I'm sure any future games will be different as it really clicked for Chad and Chili Bean about midgame.

Rejoice! Adam has found a road without water and is only 1 hour from arriving. To fill that time we played a game of Notre Dame. Again, I was the only one that had played before so Chad and Matt had to tolerate my explaining a new game for the 3rd time in just a few short hours. After stressing how brutual the plague can be I quickly displayed that for my friends by letting it effect me for 6 turns and costing me 12 VPs. Chad took full advantage and won a close game versus Chili Bean. During our last turn of this game Adam arrived!

We decided to introduce Adam to Um Reinfenbreite as it proved to be very popular in our first playing. The second game didn't dissapoint either. Adam must have still been amped up from his 9 hour race versus Mother Nature as he destroyed us in this game. He was so far ahead that most of us decided to start having our racers cheat and as a result several were disqualified at the end of the race. Chad in particular got a bit crazy with the cheat rules and I believe had all but 1 racer get booted.

I've been itching to finally get a game of Shogun in since I've played Wallenstein but never broke open my new copy of Shogun. Chad and Matt capitulated on learning their 4th new game. Adam assisted with teaching some of the rules as he had played Wallenstein previously as well and the majority of the rules are the same. After a tense game I ended up winning. I really got lucky with my initial province draws and was situated on the Eastern edge of the map by myself for the most part. The other guys were clustered in the West and really had some major battles while I was able to enjoy the peace in the East to get the victory.

We decided to take a bit of a break and play some lighter games for a while. During this time, Streetsoccer was played 3 times.

Game #1: Chili Bean versus Me

After a quick rules explanation, Chili Bean proceeded to whomp me big time. The final score was 5-1.

Game #2: Chili Bean versus Adam
This was a much closer game. It was a 1-1 tie going into the 25th minute. Chili Bean ended up getting the ball and making an amazing goal as time expired. He however, refused to put on one of my wife's sports bras and run around my yard screaming GOAL!!!! Wimp.

Game #3: Chili Bean versus Chad
Matt is really in the groove now and proving to be a Streetsoccer natural. This is a tight game that was a tie in regulation. It went into sudden death overtime with Chad scoring a quick goal and thus stopping the impressive run by Matt.

This game was also played in the afternoon while games of Streetsoccer were taking place. Mr. Jack was played twice.

Game #1: Me (Mr. Jack) versus Chad
I ended up winning after Chad had it narowed down to 2 potential suspects. He picked the wrong one to accuse and Miss Stealthy got away. This is the 3rd time I've played this game and Miss Stealthy has been Mr. Jack every time.

Game #2: Me (Mr. Jack) versus Adam
I had the early advantage and things were looking good for Jack to escape yet again. However, Adam began to grasp the game and turned up the heat about mid-game. He ended up easily catching Jack on turn 6.

This was the other light game we played during the afternoon on Saturday. When Chad saw that I had this game he demanded that we play it as he had childhood memories of playing this game and credited it with inspiring him to become an engineer. Waterworks got played a total of 3 times.

Game #1: Me versus Chad:
This was close game but continued leaky pipes were too much for Chad to overcome. I hope I didn't spoil his childhood memories or make him question his decision to be an engineer!

Game #2: Me versus Adam:
This was Adam's first time playing Waterworks. I quickly explained the game and Adam proved his mastery of the pipes.

Game #3: Me versus Adam:
After his initial win Adam claimed to be intrigued by the game and wanted a rematch. I think he really was pleased at how soundly he beat me and wanted to do it again. Despite his best efforts, I managed to get the win this time.

We then realized we hadn't made the AMSP official yet as Bang! had not been played. Chad was the Sherrif, Renegade-Adam, Outlaws-Chili Bean and Me. Dynamite took me out of the game quickly and Chili Bean as the remaining Outlaw soon followed. It came down to the Renegade versus the Sherrif. The law prevailed and Chad claimed the win.

We wrapped up Saturday night with a game of Rails of Europe. We had all previously played Railroad Tycoon so rules explanation was quick. Adam dominated this game and pulled away for a big win. The battle for second was at least close and Chad ended up claiming that.

Thanks for the reminder Adam. We played a team game of this on Saturday. Chad and Adam were Rome and Matt and I played Carthage. I believe we played the last scenario listed in base game. Carthage ended up trouncing Rome I believe it was 8 flags to 3. Total flags won by the elephant units of Carthage was 4. It was a brutal win.
