We only had 9 people, and there was a crazy storm right over Barnes & Noble right as we were getting underway, but that didn't stop us from playing some fun games right up until closing time (I suppose the downside of having it in a public place is closing time).

I brought Stone Age (one of my Father's Day gifts), very excited to get it to the table, but I had been reading the rules and I forgot to put them back into the game box, so we did not get to play it. Rats. With all the rules I am usually reading, I'm surprised that hadn't happened before.

If I've gotten anything incorrect about Monday night's meeting, or if you have anything to contribute to the list, feel free.

The session report from our previous Game Night can be found here: http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/31684

Our next Game Night will be held on Monday, July 21st, same time and place.

The exact address of the Barnes & Noble where we meet is 3089 East Main Street, Route 6, Mohegan Lake, NY 10547.

So here is what was played at our last Game Night on June 16th.

Laura, Nancy and Audrey were the first to arrive, so we got into a quick game of this one. My initial draw left me with a pretty muddled mix of tiles. Days 4 & 5 worked and Days 7, 8 & 9 worked, but the ends were a mess and the middle didn't connect. I finished out Day 10 and got a Day 6 that worked with 7, so I ditched 4 & 5 and worked backwards to the beginning of my 10 day journey. I got the right tile and finished it up first and won the game. Sorry Audrey.

Meanwhile, David, Hal and Chris showed up so they got into a game of Ingenious. It was the first time for David and Hal ended up winning. It was pretty close, but in the end, the boards closed up pretty quickly, as it seems to do, and no one could catch up. I think the scores were something like: Hal-13, Chris-12, David-10.

Bo showed up, so I sat out and he played another game of this with Laura, Nancy and Audrey. It was Bob's first time playing, and Nancy needed just one tile for a while near the end, but it was Laura who ended up with the win. Sorry Audrey.

Both games ended around the same time, and Saloney had shown up, so we mixed up the tables (usually we don't have good timing like that). I started up a 5-player game of this one with Bob, Laura, Hal and Chris. Although not officially supported, I figured 5 players would be okay. We played the Normal difficulty level (5 epidemic cards) and we lost. The player deck ran out before we could cure all 4 diseases.

We had only cured 1 of them, but the other three cures were imminent. We just ran out of time. If Hal could have taken one more turn, we might have been able to do it.

David, Saloney, Nancy and Audrey played this game. Now from my experience with this game, Nancy usually wins. She spreads out her buildings and gets a good hold on a lot of neighborhoods and she stays completely away from the competition over tallest building. This time that was not to be.

Audrey and Nancy (and maybe David too, for a bit) got into the battle for the tallest building, and when the dust had settled it didn't even matter, Saloney had won the game.

The fight to rid the world of disease was still going on so Nancy, Audrey, Saloney and David got this group favorite to the table. It's fun. Nancy captured a lot of pieces, but she was the only one to finish with 1 group, so it just didn't matter. Audrey and Saloney each had 2 groups (with Audrey in second place with fewer captured tiles, I think).

Our group finished losing Pandemic, so we played a couple of games of this. I've played a lot of No Thanks! over the last month or so. It's fast and fun and everyone seems to like it.

I won the first game using my "hold out as long as possible without taking anything" strategy. By the time I had to take something, it wasn't too high a card and I got a few chips with it. And those lasted me to the end because everyone kept seeing cards that went with their other cards, so I got off easy.

That strategy failed me miserably in the second game. After taking a really high card early in the game, Chris managed to only have to take 2 other cards that both went along with the first one. And all those high cards garnered her a lot of chips, so 33 minus a lot of chips = the win!

Nancy, Saloney, Audrey and David also got in some of Boggle Deluxe. Of course, Saloney won (apparently by getting lots of 5-letter 2-point words).

And lastly, when almost everybody had gone home, Laura, Hal and I played China. I have been interested in this game (or Web of Power) for some time. Then I saw that it was out of print and I happened to spot a banged up copy on the shelf at The Compleat Strategist one day (E. 33rd St in NYC) so I grabbed it. I have read very good things about the design; that it plays fast, but with some nice depth and strategy. All true.

We played a very fast game (partly due to the limited time we had left before the store closed) and it was great fun. Very interesting choices and strategy and very little down time or analysis paralysis. You see where you want to go, you see what cards are in your hand, you see what cards are available, and you just keeping moving forward with your plans. I really enjoyed it.

And it was a close one. In the final scoring of alliances and roads, Hal jumped forward, I manged to squeak 1 point ahead of him, and then with two 5 house roads, Laura got ahead of me by only 2 points to win the game. Did I say how much I liked it? I need to play this one again.
