This was the game that brought me to the 'geek. I had played Axis and Allies, Conquest of the Empire, and Fortress America in my youth, but had never played this one. I was just google'ing for information about the game (and how much I should shell out on ebay) when I found the geek. I was of course immediately assimilated...

Like many new BGG'ers, I spent some time looking around the 'geek and found lists of games that were likely to get played by one's spouse. True enough, this remains one of the few games my wife enjoys enough to play with me. In fact, I traded this at one time and was chastised for getting rid of it. Suffice to say, it is part of my collection once again.

This is probably my favorite of the early games I bought (before meeting up with group and being really exposed). Most of my early purchases were based on reviews and lists on the geek. Since this was a two player version of Carc, I choose this over the base game and expansions. My wife has played this with me and likes it too, though not as much as some others I have taught her. To this day this remains one of my top 10 games - I just enjoy it for what it is.

In Sept of 2005 (three months after finding the geek) I finally hooked up with the AZ Boardgamers. This was the first game I played with that group and I was truly hooked. Here was the chance to play and be taught all the wonderful games I was seeing on BGG! It was nearly 6 months before I played a repeat game of anything during my Friday night sessions with this group

Marklin ended up being the 100th game I recorded in my collection. It held such a special place in my heart that I later traded it. However, thanks to the BGG and geeklists like this one, I have record of the fact that this was #100.

As 2006 started, I decided to really use the power of BGG to log all my games played each month. For the rest of the year, I would list out my games played and my initial thoughts (if the game was new).

Hey, you know what? It was a pain in the rear doing monthly lists of my games, and it was getting to hard to remember other details, so for 2007 I switched gears. Since I was moving, I didn't quite figure my play counts would be as high as in 2006, so I had yet another reason to simply go with one list for the year. For this list, I decided to count the number of plays and who I played against. I also sorted the games as time went on so that I could quickly see which games I played the most. The winner for the year was Ingenious, as I played it online against my sister. Over and over.

I liked this format enough to keep doing it in 2008 as well.

Another new addition to my geeklists - my list of games acquired. I wanted to track the where and why of what I was gathering to my collection. St. Petersburg was the first game I got (as part of a trade). I also know that since getting this game, I have played it exactly ZERO times face to face. Sorry, I have the computer version and I just don't have the urge to break it out much.

Like a lot of BGG'ers, I like to trade games. I really like that I can get rid of things I don't like any more (or just don't NEED to own). This has been a great community of folks and I have rarely had any problems with a trade. I've made my share of mistakes (sending the wrong games to the wrong people when I had too many trades going comes to mind), but the people I've dealt with have always been gracious. With the proliferation of math trades and what not, I decided to try and track what I'm trading and what I'm getting this year.

Well, actually - Thanks! Thanks to Aldie for a great site and thanks to everyone that contributes for making this the best internet resource I visit. I've met a lot of really nice folks and played a lot of games and almost all of that is due to the BGG!
