A couple of months ago I recently played my 1000th game (I am totally OC about keeping track of games played). Here are some highlights and lowlights of a passion that started many years ago but only lately has become my #1 hobby.
Enjoy and comment if you like - remember your time will come too!

Humble beginnings:
Well this one came first, but my wife and I played this to death as a break from her correcting and making assignments (she is a teacher by trade). Finally realized that playing with more than 3 players took too long. Traded it for Caylus Magna Carta. A good trade for a good game. Goodbye Ol' Faithful!

The Downfall:
Yeah, the game that started my slide to poverty. I had played Settlers of Catan (and enjoyed it), but when I played this I just couldn't believe how awesome these Eurogames were. I was hooked on the multiple paths to victory.... HELP!!!

I need an online resource to find out about games....
I love this game, but it is a strange one. It doesn't get played nearly enough - and therefore it sits. We've had 1 hour games and 3 1/2 hour games. I bought this before I knew about BGG - I love Civ games but I might have changed my mind about this one.... It was very shortly after purchasing this game that I discovered BGG. Your opinions matter!

Play the game, don't just read the rules!
I had read the rules, and they didn't grab me. Then my wife and I played it - loved it, bought it. The other contender at the time was Through the Desert. Sorry - I'm a sucker for ancient civ's, not pastel camels (although they ARE nice).

I used to own that!!!
I had the original of this and many other (war) games. Where oh where have they gone? Most of my friends own this now so I play it with them. Great for Game days....

Sweeeeet! Mr. 1000!!
After much perusing the Geek for games - this one leapt out at me. I was able to purchase the last original copy our FLGS had. At no time have I ever said - "El Grande? No, I'd rather play ....." This was my 1000th game played. And no I didn't win. But man was it fun!

Bring me some meat!!!
I like playing Bohnanza, but this game is meatier and therefore more fun (in my books). Not to say that I don't enjoy the lighter stuff (see below).

Haha Gotchya!
We are slowly reeling our friends into our hobby, especially through games like this. How much more laughs can you have in 15 minutes???

Finally I'm a Kniziite!
My first (and only) Knizia game. I like some of his titles, but this one I love. Love the multiple paths to victory....

Read the rules again dummy!
This is one game that I just can't seem to get the rules right all the time. I pride myself on being a rules nut - making sure everything is fair - but this one has busted me twice. OUCH!!

Uh oh - I've got competition....
My daughter, 5 1/2 year old Alara loves to play games almost as much as her mom and I (whew!) We try to take it easy on her - but when it comes to this game she OWNS us. One game we desperately tried to dissuade her from filling a pen with one (male) flamingo late on the game - there were better choices in her barn. "But dad, I want to make a baby". So what does she do but pull the last two flamingoes (including a female) and crushes us. Atta girl!

I wish I was competition!
My wife and I have played over 100 games of this - the only one we own even over 50 plays. We played it alot while waiting for our second daughter to come along (mainly the last month - not all 9, we still had to do other menial things like work, etc.) Out of all those games I think MAYBE I've won 20%. I just cannot draw cards (either that or I'm stupid - no comments please!!!)

Oh the humanity!!!
The first and only game to be banned. A group of us played this and we were unable to solve it. It turns out one of the players - who shall remain nameless (and no it wasn't me!)- marked off one of the monks incorrectly. We never played this again.

Duplicates?? We don't need no duplicates!!
We (for whatever reason) seem to get the good games before our friends. We try not to get the same as them because, well, if they own it we want to play it with them. And if we own a good game we want them to play it with us. However some still insist on getting their own copy (they must have other friends we don't know about - horrors!!!). But recently I broke down and bought Condottiere after some friends beat us to it and after playing it I was right - it IS a good game!!!

A plug for Ystari:
I love their games. Not all of them are winners - but I'm happy with the 3 we own!

And for the finale....
This, I am happy and sad to say, marks the last purchase for a long time. The closet is full. I know I've only got 60 games, but I love playing them all. I have NEVER bought a game I haven't played. It's just me. I started with near perfection in PR, and now I can't wait to see Agricola dethrone the champ. I know it's not for everyone - but for us it's THE game. My wife and I borrowed a friend's copy and played it every night for a week, usually getting in at least 2 games after the kids were asleep. The best part?? We split the games 50-50 (including a tie). It doesn't get any better than that!
