While reading around on BGG I came across a comment wherein a fellow BGG'er expressed his love for A Game of Thrones (first edition) but unfortunately, after repeated play, his gaming group grew to dislike it. In my estimation, this is a common problem encountered by those of us involved in the hobby.

So my question to you is: what game do you absolutely love that doesn't work with your regular gaming group and now sits in the dark corner of your bookshelf?

I encountered this problem with Tigris & Euphrates relatively early into my gaming obsession. I had read the faithful sing the praises of Dr. Knizia's masterpiece and grabbed a copy for myself as soon as I could. I quickly read through the rules and fine-tuned my understand with the latest Errata and FAQ. I just knew this was a great game and couldn't wait to share it with my group.

After the first play I loved it but one of my friends absolutely loathed it. He didn't really seem to grok the rules but he was willing to try another game. After our second game he managed to score 0 points in all four colors because of a miscommunication concerning victory conditions. You see he thought if you scored 0 points you won...yeah I know.

Since then I've gone on to play T&E through many other mediums and still thoroughly enjoy playing it. But my own copy purchased many years ago still sits on a shelf taking up space in the hope that someday I'll get my friend to try it again and maybe, just maybe, it will finally 'click'.

I LOVE Zendo... my wife (who has a large say in what's played in our group) does not. Thus it is not played much at all.

This is just about my favourite Euro, but unfortunately it's nobody else's... it's probably been a year now since I was able to pull this out and play it.
