In pursuit of a treatment for analysis-paralysis, I came across an excellent suggestion: the timer. However, I think this tool can be enhanced in at least one important respect, which I have not seen discussed.

If experienced players would offer some suggested reasonable turn-times for particular games, I think that would help minimize AP. Certainly, there are many options in selecting a turn-time for a game. One must take into account such factors as the experience of the players, the complexity of the game, the temperment of the players, etc., and make adjustments to the turn-time accordingly. Still, even given these complications, some rough guidelines to experiment with should be possible and helpful.

I'll start the list by adding games that I enjoy and have found tend to engender AP.

Please feel free to add you own games, insights and suggestions.

Suggestion

First game: 3 minutes per turn
Normal game: 2 minutes per turn (if one looks ahead, 1 minute might be feasible)

In my brief exposure to this game, I conclude that it almost mandates quick play, and hence a timer. AP is a game-killer.

Should different phases have different time allotments?

I gave up on this game because of the AP which I largely attributed to the inability to see "ahead" very far, such that analysis really didn't start until it is actually the players' turn. I need to try this one again PBW or with a timer as this list suggests.

A great way to play roborally is with a 1 or 2 minute timer. First player to complete there program & place it face down starts the timer. Anybody whose program is not complete by the end time gets it filled with cards chosen at random by the other players.
