Once again I'd like to know what other wargamers plan on playing this month. We're headed into the last part of Summer (my favorite time of the year) but I have no doubt I'll push some counters around. I'll start with what games I have on my agenda, go ahead and post your own.

I do have a UPS box containing The Devil's Cauldron: The Battles for Arnhem and Nijmegen on it's way to my home but since it will probably take a couple weeks for me to absorb the rules it won't make the list. I've avoided monster games so far but this looks like a good one to cut my teeth on. More on that next month.

Dark July is set up ready to go (Midday's Conterattack scenario) for a solo game tonight. The latest WWII expansion for the Lock n Load system deals with the battles fought west of Prochorovka in July (who would have guessed) 1943. Lock n Load is my squad-level tactical system of choice and Dark July has some brutal scenarios that use forces that might be a little larger on average when compared to other LnL offerings. Just looking at the map (2 larger than usual hard-mounted) and the 2 sides ready to go is making me nervous, which isn't something that usually happens in my solo games. The Russians are going to have to push hard but the Germans might have the tougher time holding their ground. Add that to a map that due to terrain will turn the game into a close-quarters fight and I'm feeling nervousness.

I'd better finish my entries so I can move my start time for this on up to this afternoon.

EDIT: The wheat fields in Prochorovka don't work the same way standard ones do, LOS wasn't that messed up. The Germans held their ground long enough to take it. Just in case anyone is interested

I've never played a hex & counter game set in the 14th century but after reading the reviews it looks like it will be a nice change of pace from the WWII/modern gaming that I've been doing. I've read that the rules for longbows are good and for some reason that was the biggest selling point for me. The command rules look to be interesting as well. I'm not an expert on this era but I know it was brutal, bloody warfare. This will see a couple solo plays and maybe I can push it at the monthly game marathon.

I STILL haven't played this f2f though I did get some solo turns done. I like Turning Point Stalingrad a lot but after playing those B:N solo turns this one might be slightly better though the strategic situation is different. I like the beach landing rules and I like the area-impulse mechanics. Hopefully the f2f game I have set up for next weekend will actually happen.

This will make any monthly "games played" list for the foreseeable future. I love it. Fast, bloody combat, grim WWIII setting. I find it interesting WWIII starts the same year I graduated high school. Whether f2f, solo, or on Vassal I will play at least once this month.

I have just finished setting up the Fall Blau-campaign for the VASSAL. I'm planning to play at least the drive to Stalingrad and Baku, but maybe I will continue until the bitter since my best gaming experience was the campaign of Enemy At The Gates. So this will probably take my time for August and beyond...

I'm hoping to play this one. I don't actually have it, but a friend of mine has it on order and it looks fascinating. I've downloaded the rules from the website and I can't wait to get it to the table, looks innovative.

Also Looking forward to getting to play, fingers crossed on this:

I anticipated a continuation of the campaign against Japan, but now I fear I may be sacked from command. Having reached 199000 tons by end of March '42, I thought the next benchmark (220000 end of May) was in the bag. The first two weeks of April...2 ships / 4 tons. Ugh.....pure frustration. (I don't know where I came up with the idea this would provide a little relaxation after work when needed)

Continuing my solo game of this, which in the interim was nominated for a Charles S. Roberts award. It's pretty good, so far, and helping me learn a bit more about the difficulties faced in the Near East theater during WWI.

Edit: Result of the first scenario, which goes to mid-1916, was an Ottoman Victory, but an Allied Imperial Victory. British had captured Baghdad and Mecca, while it was a stalemated bloodbath on the Russian Front after a lively final turn. Sinai was static, with the Ottomans holding the western bank of the Suez Canal. With no Gallipoli-like invasion having occurred, it seems the end result was better than historical for the Allies.

Last month I put together a system of boards to extend my playing space out to rather increased proportions. Now I can play some of the multi-map games that have been sitting around for years.

First up is 1st Bull Run from the GBACW series. It is on the table now and the tension is mounting ...

This is all a prep for 3DoG in 2009 (that's the plan anyway - although I may get distracted ...)
