My wife made the suggestion we should try to play every game in the collection this year. A great idea, focusing on what we already own, rather than what's new on the shelves at the local game store.

It also gives me a chance to reassess oldies, and work out if we still need to own them.

So, the goal this year - play everything on the shelves - several hundred games, many neglected for years. Then, assess whether they still warrant a spot on the overstuffed shelves. If it doesn't pass muster, it's the heave-ho.

A very thin month. We hardly played any games (apart from a ten game session of Agricola when the English edition turned up in early August). Every moment of our spare time has been spent shopping and prepping the house for the new arrival. Gaming took a back seat this month!

New game about themed on the Spanish Civil War. Very impressed - the rules are a simple to digest 6 pages, with an advanced naval variant to add some more meat. Great components - board, cards, play aids and counters. Game play is straightforward, and intuitive, allowing the opponents to concentrate on the problems, not the rules. Only a couple of games, but this is a keeper.

Stay or go: Stay.

Dusted this 10 year old game off and played three player. A game I've never won, and didn't again. A silent and contemplative tile laying game, where I always seem to spread myself too thin and end up with nothing. Debbie won our game by being the only player with a majority. Excellent game.

Stay or go: Stay.

New game inspired by games such as Talisman, Prophecy and Return of the Heroes. We had a fun three hours playing this - I won as the Orc, but we were all within a turn of winning (the next turn would have seen the magic user win at Booty Bay). The game has a few wrinkles, but I enjoyed the character development aspect via the level up and ability decks. Willing to explore this a bit more.

Stay or go: Stay.

Turned up in the mail in late August and we took it out for a spin. I loved Last Night On Earth, by the same company, so this was a must buy. This is more in the Talisman mould - roll a die, wander around town getting stronger, and ultimately taking on the big bad. Interesting sub-game where you are investigating the town elders, to see if they are good or evil, and whether they will help you in the final battle. Errr, we didn't win, as the shadow track wound down, but we didn't know what we were doing. Nice game, you can play competitively or cooperatively, as well as in basic or advanced.

Stay or go: Stay for the moment.
