BGG has designer entries well into the 5-digits. I'm assuming the designer entries are more or less the order the designers were added into and not some other scheme (some sort of categorization that I'm not aware, or designers that were deleted and then readded for some reason). So which designers had the honor of being BGG's first ones and to lead the rest? Here are the first 100 designer ID entries and what little I know about them.....

Definately heard of him. Quite a prolific game designer with over 250 titles under his belt. Titles range from quite short (e.g. Money, Tutankhamen) to quite long (e.g. Galaxy: The Dark Ages, Lord of the Rings: Sauron) and casual games (e.g. Pickomino, Relationship Tightrope) as well as quite heavy (e.g. Tigris & Euphrates, Taj-Mahal) and everything in between (Through The Desert, Ra, Modern Art), so it figures that many of those games can be found in circulation among my various game groups.

I figured Reiner Knizia would be in the first 100. I just didn't expect to see him this soon in order.

Not surpring to see this on this list. What is a bit unexpected is it being at #3. I figured it would be either at #1 or #0 (I checked, #0 is invalid), but still, it was only A BIT unexpected is all.

Games include but are certainly not limited to Checkers, Chess, Go, and XiangQi

At over 14,700 titles for this "designer", it also makes this designer entry the largest on BGG. OK, I didn't check every one, but unless Knizia starts sucking down energy drinks and/or clones himself, he's NOT gonna get to that figure anytime soon, and I'm gonna presume the same with any other board game designer of such a large library.

never heard of him. Looking through his games, some of them I know only b/c they are common words in English such as Tempo, Slam, and Venture. However, looking closer brings out Acquire and Can't Stop. Both of which are familiar to me. Never mind I came upon them in another geeklist of mine, I've heard of the former by reputation and seen the latter being played on time. In short, he seems to have a lot of games of the dice/abstract variety.

Definately heard of him. My first exposure of play, not to mention ONLY one to date to his works is through Perikles. THAT'S the game that comes to mind when I think of him. However, going by the # of ratings, I'm guessing the general populace is more in tune with Wallace's (and it rhymes ) Age of Steam. I can't pinpoint when I first heard of Age Of Steam, but it may have been before playing Perikles.

I was curious what people had to say about Wallace and Knizia as game designers, so I sparked that interest here.

I like Knizia far better, but I think Wallace and Perikles is "A-OK"!

Wolfgang Kramer was brought to my attention and became personal knowledge when I purchased a couple of copies of Saga for cheap. Specifically, cheap price per unit and combined shipping and handling savings. Doubtless that others got in on that deal as well, but I'm sure some of those also took note that it was a Wolfgang Kramer game. Looking into his works, there's more than meets the eye.....

==6 nimmt! and Slide 5 I have played. And I have played both those actual variations of 6 Nimmt. Their randomness makes it a fun, light game that can also take up to 7 players, but not something I'd want to play all the time
==I have only played Torres once, and for only one round, but this game is certainly intriguing.
==Recently played Maharaja: The Game of Palace Building in India. I liked it, altho a bit heavy "in a light way".

==I came across Tikal both as part of the first 100 games listed here on BGG, but have also heard of it and seen screenshots
==El Grande I have never played, but have heard of and heard it's great

Those are enough of his games played and heard of to say he's well known to me. I own Saga and Torres, even though will not likely read its rules let alone play it. Torres on the otherhand, is more likely to get played

I recognize Diamant and Unnamed Object by names, checking out websites and inside stores that sell board games and Elfenland as part of doing research for my "the first 100 games listed on BGG" geeklist.

Of course, those are his titles that "count". Moon's Ticket To Ride series is soo wildly popular that he's made enough of a name for himself even if his other games were never to be heard of again. For whole games/expansions, we've got the USA map, Europe, Switzerland, Marklin, and Nordic Countries. Minor expansion (relative to the new maps) includes 1910 and an add-on includes Mystery Train. There's also a TtR card game (about time it would seem).

Proud owner of TtR, TtR 1910, and Mystery Train. Also have played Europe and Switzerland.

If I were asked in a game show or at trivia night at some local bar (maaan that WOULD be sweet.... especially given all the sports questions that are thrown at us) who designed Bohnanza or Agricola, I really would draw a blank, and would unlikely be able to come up with the correct answer if money or prizes were on the line. After hearing the answer, I would definately smack myself. I've seen this designer's name on the actual box of Bohnanza (played it recently) and on screenshot's of Agricola's front box cover.

While I am NOT familiar with any of his other works, Bohnanza and Agricola are the 2 huge ones out there, so I will say I know his work, if not previously by name.

This is gonna be similar to Alan R. Moon's entry.

==Oceania I've heard of b/c I've wandered upon it at one point in time by accident here on BGG.
==Hoity Toity, aka By Hook Or By Crook was my 2nd Klaus Teuber game I've played without "Catan" nor "Settlers" in the title. In other words, the first game not bearing any resemblance to Settlers Of Catan and it's 'relatives'.
==My next and only other game outside the "Catan plane of existence" would be Domaine. Some of its mechanisms certainly screamed "Klaus Teuber" in terms of style.

How is this gonna be similar to Moon's entry? Catan (perhaps just Settlers Of Catan itself), and not even the extended Catan family, but what I like to refer to as "The Catan 6" (Settlers, Seafarers, Cities & Knights, and their respective 5/6 player extensions) are soo popular that "he's set". With so many games in the Catan series, a rehashes like Simply Catan and something like CATAN 3D Collector's Edition being sold for MSRP $400 that's truly a luxury than necessity, that's for sure.

I first heard of Klaus Teuber (by game, NOT name) when a friend bought her own copy of Settlers Of Catan at a games parlor. There sure were a hell lotta games with "Catan", "Settlers", or otherwise styles of box art similar to The Catan 6. Later on, I would learn his name after being introduced to SoC and playing my first few games.

And then the various variations on Catan. Add-ons like The Settlers of Catan: The Great River and The Settlers of Catan: The Fishermen of Catan, actual games like Catan Card Game, The Kids of Catan, The Settlers of Canaan, Starfarers of Catan, some themed versions of Catan based on Rome (i think), the Japanese version of SoC using Megaman/Rockman instead of the settlers theme (Settlers of Catan: Rockman Edition), The Settlers of the Stone Age, and Die Siedler von Nürnberg which I hear isn't sold outside of Germany.

Games owned: "The Catan 6" as described above, all Mayfair 3rd edition copies

I recall seeing his name on the Basari box (the new one with more cartoony graphics), but not Barnyard Buddies. Vaguely saw his name on the instructions for Blink. Never tried the rest of his games, but based on those 3, he seems to be a designer of games on the lighter range. Blink is VERY DAMN FAST to say the least. Big Top is a good Uno or parlor games substitute. Plus, its art and fun facts are nice bonuses. Basari makes for a light, but fulfilling game (eurogame?) where players won't go too crazy with the decisions presented to them.

What puts this guy into the 'well known game designer' club for me would be Magic: The Gathering CCG. I never knew it was Richard Garfield by name who created this game. Never bothered to look.
I don't own my own set, but I have played it a couple of times with a roommate's copy, which also had the/one of the Arctic expansions. Even people I would consider "casual gamers" have even played this game, and they even own their own set as well (albeit dusty after all the years of unuse).

I have never played any of his games, but I do recognize many of them, of which quite a few as big names.

Twilight Imperium is the superb 2-hour game that usually takes 5 to 8 hours to play. AFAIK, this game is somewhat like Cosmic Encounters, but much longer and deeper. Tide of Iron is the series of highly rated, World War II wargames. Like the video game MMORPG, World of Warcraft: The Boardgame is quite a hit. The Star Wars, Star Trek, and Lord Of The Rings franchises are familiar only by those merits alone and not by their respective actual games. Last but not least, I've seen Battlemist around on BGG.

==Played Illuminati. Alot to keep track of, but it is one of the more interesting elimination games I've played to date. Weird, Liberal, Militaristic..... I barely keep up with US/politics. This game has some of that going on.
==Played Burn in Hell. Game owner will unlikely break that out again.

==Heard some interesting things about Ninja Burger.
==Heard that Chez Geek is fun, but surprised to see Jackson didn't do the base game, but instead, many of the sequels, expansions, and spinoffs.

Safe to say I know enough of his works.

55 games listed on BGG.

I recognize the Battlelore and Memoir '44 series. Borg had his hand StoneHenge in addition to 4 other designers. Borg also did some more minor stuff/expansions/add-ons with other familiar elements such as X-Men, Risk, Lord Of The Rings, Yahtzee, and Narnia.

I have played Wyatt Earp, and I gotta say, "it's like Rummy but a lot funner". The extra elements make the game more engrossing. That says much since I think Rummy is OK, but wouldn't see myself playing it much.
