The usuals trekked on over to my house for some gaming this Thursday. Among the usuals, it was great to see Joe on his feet and gaming with us (or on his a$$, rather, since he usually sits while playing. Joe, you're still in our prayers! )

We sat around and chatted about insignificant topics like health care for quite some time before we finally got started on some games. A few of us also played some Vectrex as a prelude to the evening. Finally, Joe got Steve and Craig to join him for this game to get the gaming started. Larry joined in as well after snubbing Dave and I who were getting Vikings set up. This was a very a close game as they all were in five points of each other, but Craig got the win.

Dave and I were the only one's left as Beth was taking care of our kids so we got this excellent 2-player out. It was one of the best runs of the game ever. I was Jack and managed to recover from a very poor first round as I had completely forgotten that two players adjacent to each other are illuminated. I kept Jack's identity hidden until the very last round. I thought that I placed Jack away from being "captured", but Dave managed to apprehend him with Sergeant Goodley with a move that I completely missed. Well done, Dave!

After we finished Mr. Jack, Dave and I were joined by Shannon, Brian, and Beth so we opened up this fantastic game. Dave did his usual remarkable job at explaining the game, this time to Brian. As is usual with this game, I had no idea who was in the lead, but near the end of the game we had a very strange occurrence...we ran out of cash! Afterwards we tried to figure out how this could have happened and we concluded that the main reason was that the Cathedral markers were out early and players were getting free money from the bank on almost every turn. By the end of the game, every location had a marker on it! The final scoring was also very strange and lopsided. I got the win scoring just over a 1000 while both Brian and Beth were in the 800s. Shannon was in the 600s while Dave brought up the rear in the 400s? Dave's low score was perplexing to all of us.

Joe headed out while we were in the middle of Traders so Craig, Larry, and Steve went for a game of this. Steve always seems to win this game, but Craig prevailed this time.

After Traders completed, Brian headed out and Beth went to bed. Shannon, Dave, and I sat around and chatted waiting for the other three to finish so we could play a 6-player or something. Ironically, we split into two groups of 3 anyway, but it was Shannon, Dave, and I again playing this. I went through the explanation as both of them had only played once a long time ago. I forced the end after completing my fifth set and that was enough to edge them both.

Even more ironic was that Steve, Craig, and Larry got this game going...the game that Dave and I had tried twice to play earlier in the evening. Steve got his revenge on Craig getting the win by one point.

After Dave squeaked out an extraordinarily high-pitched hiccup, we felt he deserved to choose the final game of the evening. So the six of us convened for this classic filler. Dave managed to score 60 points after the first two rounds, so we thought that there would be only one round left. (Actually that last sentence was written after proof reading this entry. If I hadn't done that, I would have demonstrated my woeful grammar with the following: Dave managed to score 60 points after first two rounds so we thought that there were only one more round left. ) However, Dave scored only two more points the rest of the game and it was actually Steve who went over 66 two rounds later with a whopping final score of 102. Craig, Shannon, and I were all very close the last few rounds, but I managed to escape with the win with a score of 30.
