We all have'em and don't know why - We feel guilty everytime we look through our game cabinet and see it.

Maybe we splurged one afternoon on a truck-load of games and there is one that now has more dust on it than your treadmill. Or maybe that "50% OFF" sign at your local game store was too good to resist and you bought a bunch of games even though the number of fingers you have on one hand are higher than its BGG rating.

Please add >>ONE<< game, the game which has been on your shelf unplayed the longest. Then please give a reason WHY its been unplayed for so long. Also, let us know how long it's been collecting dust. Finally, tell how many unplayed games you have total on your shelf.

I've searched through all the GeekLists and haven't found anything like this list yet (people have posted their OWN unplayed games, but not a public list).

I won this game during a "Modern Art" tournament last year. Somehow this game looks extremely uninspiring and looks to much like "Settler's of Catan" - Been on my shelf since April 2003 - 32 games on my shelf unplayed (I just ordered a bunch which arrived yesterday)

Sits there as an occasional change of pace from Diplomacy -- and we never play Diplomacy! So this has never been tried at all.

I also have The Civil War, which hasn't been played either.

As a science fiction/fantasy reader and fan, I figured the Piers Anthony material would be a great game, so I bought this one. It is basically a game of quests in an invented magical land that looks suspiciously like Florida. The game is primarily card-driven, and cleverly so, but it suffers from its own cleverness. While the cards are fun, if you're not familiar with the "Spell for Chameleon" books, some of the humor will be lost on you. Plus, the rules themselves are written to be funny, and are therefore too long and wordy and difficult to use as reference on how to play the game. This is a fairly serious problem, IMO. It hasn't come out in our group because there are so many good games out there that this one wouldn't compete very well.

I've had this one since the mid-80's. It just sort of got lost in the shuffle and now it's a relic since Knizia has about 300 auction games that are much better.

I have very few unplayed games...maybe 1 or 2 others. I normally play games the minute I get them, even if just a solitaire walkthough.

Setters is my oldest unplayed game, bought in the spring of 2001. I got it with the intention of inflicting it on my siblings but I was never quite able to pin them down for a game. When I finally found some fellow gamers in 2002, Settlers of Catan was already passe and no one wanted to play. I have played a shareware PC game of the game, though.

At the moment I have seven unplayed titles in a collection of about sixty games--ten unplayed if you include expansions. I hate having unplayed games, but I just don't get to go gaming as often as I'd like.

Looks complicated. I've heard it taks a long time to play. Definately not for non-gamers. Unfortionately I'm surrounded by non-gamers and when I do go to play games with my gamer friends, we don't usually devote this much time to a single game. I suppose I could spring it on them one day, but it just hasn't happened yet. When we want to play a long game, it's usually 18XX, Dune, or Age of Ren.

It is still sealed and has been for the 5 years I have had it. We always play it somewhere else.

What is bad is that I have 41 unplayed games in my collection (some of them are expansions) and over 1/2 of them are still sealed. Anyone feel like a punch and bag session?

Freedom in the Galaxy. Acquired in 1986 - 18 years unplayed. Haven't found anyone to play it with because it takes a certain kind of gamer, a real grognard, to appreciate this game, and while I do know people like that, other grognardy games have taken precendence to play. But I will play it, this year, for certain.

I have a total of 38 unplayed games in my collection.

I think this is the game that I have had the longest, but not played (even on other copies). At one of my first Gencons (1988 or 1989), I got a pre-Avalon Hill copy of Titan at the auction. I still intend to try it, but need to spray the silk screened so they don't melt in my hands. I do have some older games that I haven't played, but this has been on my shelves the longest. Of my ~1000 games, I've probably not played between 1/3 and 1/2. I've read the rules to 95% (at least of the ones for which I have English rules), but many haven't hit the table, yet. About a year ago, I went through and identified several that I am, most likely, never going to play and put them for sale here. There are a few more shelves to go through, yet...

I'm not sure but I think this is the oldest unplayed game I own. I actually set it up once but the other players were getting tired and didn't want to play. When I suggested it at an all-day gaming event, the people who had played before weren't too keen on it.

Sometimes I give up and realize a game will never get played unless it's with someone who already has the game. I've bought and sold some monster games like Civilization, Age of Renaissance, and Lords of the Renaissance for that reason.

Other current unplayed games: Magier von Pangea, Doge, Venezia, Drakon, Cave Troll, Fightball, X-bugs, Shapeshifters, Source of the Nile, Strand Cup, Java,
Scotland Yard, Meine Schafe Deine Schafe.

I bought it in 1981 and still haven't played it. I don't know why - I guess other games keep calling louder. Usually I sell games I don't play, but no one will buy this one from me or trade me for it.

How many unplayed games in my collection? I don't know. Maybe 10%, which is about 50, I suppose. Rough estimate.

I bought this second hand on EBay about six months ago, because it seemed perfect for the makeup of my gaming circle at the time: we loved nasty, backstabbing wargames with diplomatic elememts (Diplomancy, Junta, Titan) and this looked the bees knees.

It remains unplayed for two reasons. Firstly, the makeup of my gaming circle has changed and become a bit "fluffier" and second, the rulebook, although short, is so damn awful that I wince at the thought to trying to actually play a game, working my way painfully through the rulebook at every turn. I just don't have the stamina for that sort of thing anymore.

I't looks fantastic though, so I hope I can summon up the effort to do it one day. It's the only unplayed game in my collection: I'm generally very good at not buying things I'm not likely to play

Hmmm ... this could be several. I have the Man from U.N.C.L.E. card game, which I believe was published in the early 1960's. I found it at a thrift store and have never played it. Please note: The photo picutred here is of the board game, NOT the card game.

I also have an original copy of Diplomacy, again from the early 60's. I've played Diplomacy numerous times, but I've never used that set.

I started buying wargames in 1976. Meager income as a student didn't prevent me from picking up as many of the AH and then SPI games as possible. With only my future spouse to play with, many of the games never got opened. Blitzkrieg, in this instance, was just too 'big'. Purchased in 1976 or 1977. Currently have 1920 games unplayed (income less meager now).
