I originally created these surveys to provide a fun diversion that would get the community talking about their hobby. Along the way, I've learned a lot about BGG and its users.

Please note: I have started a subscription thread here: http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/305311

In this list, please answer all of the following questions in a single geeklist entry:

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
5) What is currently your favorite television show?
6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?
7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?
9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?

1) Month: I play a lot of games during the cold winter months of January and February.
2) Golden Geek: I've not played many new releases. I don't have a favorite.
3) Essen or BGG.con: I'd rather attend BGG.con. DFW is a neat place and BGG.con would be much less expensive.
4) Customize: I've never customized a game.
5) TV: Fringe is a neat show that reminds me of The X-Files.
6) Choice: I'd rather play Monopoly.
7) Annoyance: Cheeto fingers would be most annoying.
8) Score: I've not played Agricola yet.
9) Discover: I found BGG through Ask.com while searching for boardgames.
10) Wargame: I've never played a hex-and-counter wargame.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
I don't have a lot of data to qualify this, but it appears August has traditionally been my busiest gaming month. I have NO IDEA why.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
Um, I have no idea. I haven't even looked at the nominees.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
Yes.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
Go.
I made my own board out of leather.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?
Into the Unknown

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?
Can I abstain?
This one likely depends on the group, really. I can't say that I'd rather play one or the other... I guess I enjoy Diplomacy more, but I wouldn't want to play it with anyone other than my friends.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
Ooooh. Cheeto-dust! Definatly!

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?
Nope. And considering my general dislike of the BGG top 10, I'll likely not make an effort to play it either.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
I was working conventions with United States Playing Cards in 1997, selling the X-Files CCG. One night in open gaming, we played Settlers. It's been a wild ride ever since.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?
Yes.
Panzer Leader.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
Probably May, just because we never miss KublaCon over Memorial Day weekend.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
Through the Ages: A Story of Civilization is listed in a couple of categories, but not in "Two-player games." It's a great two-player game. (On the other hand, it is listed as a card game. I tend to think of card games as having few components other than the cards themselves, which is distinctly untrue of TtA.)

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
I'd most like to attend Essen in the year one of my own designs is released there. (Pipe dream, since none of my designs have ever been published... yet.) But it's a hard choice, because I'd also love to attend BGG.con.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
We (meaning Helen and I) have customized dozens. But she does most of the work. I have contributed tuckboxes for Railways of Europe and 1960: The Making of the President, and a player aid for Twilight Struggle. But even the tuckboxes used her design template.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?
No single favorite at the moment, but I'm enjoying Bones, Doctor Who, Chuck, and Pushing Daisies. Battlestar Galactica was huge for a while, but our Tivo ate its disk and we lost half a season a while back, and never caught up.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?
Diplomacy. Not that I've ever played it, but my son plays and I'm sure I'd like it better than Monopoly. I'd suck at it, but I'd like it.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
The cell phone annoyance is temporary, and can be avoided in future by avoiding that player. But Cheetos dust might not clean up easily or well (thankfully I've never had to find out) and that annoyance might therefore be permanent!

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?
Yes, and my highest score was no better than the mid-thirties, I think. I do not excel at that game.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
When my children were younger, a game store owner recommended Settlers of Catan and we bought it and enjoyed it. A year or two later, Helen read about KublaCon and decided we should attend because they were having a Settlers tournament. After that, there was no looking back!

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?
Yes, and I don't remember. Whatever it was, it didn't impress me, and to this day I am uninterested in playing more.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?

It seems to be December - because we usually have a lot of extra time to play games because of the holidays.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?

Can't think of any.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?

BGG.con - Essen would be a total blast, but I would rather go to a con to play games than to check out endless vendor booths (as cool as that can be itself).

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?

Not really. I've made tuckboxes and the like, but I don't really count that as customizing. I am planning custom bits for my copy of Twilight Struggle though.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?

House, M.D.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?

Monopoly.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?

If it's my game, Mr. Cheeto. If it's someone else's game, Mr. Phone. goo

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?

Not yet.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?

Indirectly - I always liked oddball games, but I suppose the first link in the chain would be buying 1835 because I liked 1830 so much, and it went from there.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?

Yes. My first would have been Ogre, and then PanzerBlitz, but the ones I played over and over were the SPI Great Medival Battles quad.

1. I can only answer this in terms of Jewish months: Tishrei [usually comes out Sept/October] because this is wehn thechagim occur. I try and make all my games playable on shabbat and yom tov [when wiriting is forbidden] and sometimes have to be creative but am usually successful. On shabbat and yom tov, I have time to play although not so much the rest of the time because of working.

2. no

3. Assuming all the various game manufacturers would have booths at both, I'd say Essen. I've been to Texas.

4. no

5. N/A no TV

6. Diplomacy

7. Cheeto-fingers. Potential actual damage to a game [staining cardboard for example] trumps most anything else, even rude behavior.

8. no

9. I'd heard of Settlers before [still never played it though] but really found euros via BGG. Some are okay.

10. I'm a wargamer but I usua;;y don't play squad level games.

1) I don't have a particular month that's any busier for games than any other.

2) Don't know. Don't follow the voting.

3) Essen. It's more Europeany. Get in some sightseeing as well.

4) I tend to redo wargame counters to make the graphics less colourful and confusing. I've also made printer friendlier wargame maps.

5) I don't watch TV generally. I'm watching the Doctor Who that's finally available on CBC TV in Canada.

6) La la la la la -- I'm not listening -- la la la la...

7) Anything cell phone bothers me immensely. If you aren't interested, go home.

8) No.

9) Playing with other people.

10) My first hex 'n' counter game would have been Ogre or Star Fleet Battles. Or the ones in the book of this entry.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
Probably in June when I attend Origins. December would be a close second.
2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
I can't think of any.
3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
BGG.con - I don't like to travel and can't imagine being on a plane long enough to fly to Europe. I'm also not fond of crowds.
4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
I had a number of customized items for Disk Wars.
5) What is currently your favorite television show?
I frequently watch Bones.
6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?
Diplomacy by a very wide margin.
7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
The cell phone is only annoying for the duration of one game. Cheeto-caked components last forever.
8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?
Haven't played yet.
9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
I think I discovered that I was playing Euro-style games when I found the geek. Until then, I just thought they were games.
10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?
Yes. I've played a few. I think my first ever was Sink the Bismarck which a friend owned. Neither of us seemed to understand it very well. My next was Divine Right and then Kingmaker, which I've played way too much of.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
Varies by year but it looks like Aug-Sept is the winner. July is my birthday so I usually have lots of new game but little time to play them. So Augusit is when I first get to play a lot of them and September is the end of summer and we tend to get together more for games (plus Labor Day weekend is thrown in so it is a nice boost int he middle of the two months).

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
Actually, I think all that I wanted to get in, got in.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
BGG.COM because it is the more realistic fo the 2 that I could attend.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
Just added components - like Axis & Allies with special color dice. I guess you could count Wits & Wagers which I made from scratch to accomodate 100 people at my wedding reception.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?
Always and forever, Law & Order. I think it will perpetually be current.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?
Hands down, Dip.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
The guy with the broken orange fingers.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?
Yes, 2-player family game: 36 points.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
Through BGG of course. I was looking up Axis & Allies stuff and stumbled across Carcassonne, which a friend had previously recommended. I bought Ark of the Covenant first and then continued with all the Carc expansions.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?
No, I can't say that I did. By the time I got into war games, it was the CDG point to point movement that I purchased.

Cool list!!
1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
November. My birthday month and my friend's birthday month, plus it's ZombieFest month!zombie

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
Was Humans!!!! nominated?

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
BGG.con. I'd much rather play the games than just see them shilled.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
Yep. I did a Wreckage variant to make it play more like Wings of War. (in the files section) and I created a drafting method for Warriors of the Promised Land

5) What is currently your favorite television show?
Hmmm. A toss up, Pushing Daisies or Fringe.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?

Hmm. That's a total toss up, as both make you lose friends.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
Since my wife does the first, I'll have to go with the latter.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?

Only by myself so far. 39.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
I got in through the AmeriTrash door (did I mention ZombieFest in Novemeber), but the FLGS showed me the light.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?

Nope, but I've preordered Texas Glory, and I really want to try out that Conflict of Heroes thing.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
I'm not really sure. Maybe November since I'm at the Great Lakes Games convention every November. Otherwise April because of the Gathering.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
I'm not really sure what the nominees are for the Golden Geek award.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
Neither. I want to go to Europe at some point in my life, but I dislike huge crowds and there's nothing about Essen that appeals to me enough to offset the negative that the huge crowd represents. Besides, there are many more more things in Europe that I'd rather see than the inside of a convention hall. I could go to Origins or Gen Con for that without leaving the US (but don't, in part because of the crowds).

I have the privilege of being able to attend several game conventions every year. I probably will never go to BGG.con because Aldie and Derk chose to place it in November, the same month we had been holding Great Lakes Games. Great Lakes Games is a different type of game convention, but I can play at a slower pace there with good friends I don't get to see very often. (If anyone in the midwest is interested in Great Lakes Games, send me a note and I'll give you more information.) BGG.con would be another Gathering-style convention. Maybe after I retire I can go to more gaming conventions. Until then, I have to budget my vacation time a bit.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
Many times. One of my favorite customization jobs was a project my wife dreamed up. She loved the look of Das Amulett, but didn't like the plastic gems that came with the game. So she spent a few weeks collecting flat glass beads to replace all the gems in the game. The result is much for fun to play with. The picture I selected for this list is our customized set.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?
The First 48 on A&E.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?
Easy answer, Monopoly. I don't mind that game as much as some people here, but I really dislike Diplomacy, and would never play it again.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
Both are rude, but the game will recover from the cell phone idiot, not necessarily from the slob.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?
Not yet. I did just purchase a copy, however, and intend to play it very soon.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
Cosmic Encounter was my first Euro-style game, I was playing an Eon version of that back in the 80s. I started buying Euro games in earnest in 1996 or 1997.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?
Yes, I have. Avalon Hill's Midway probably doesn't count as it's not a hex and counter game, but I was playing that when I was 10 or 11. I bought Battle of Britain by Gamescience when I was 12. Both of those have tons of counters but no hexes.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why? Considering I don't quite have three years of logged plays and this is the first year with a really consistent group that's hard to say. But it's either going to be this November or last December with the most. November I'll be part of a long weekend away for gaming, December I was at a camp for a week with a lot of people willing to play card games.
2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one? I don't think this relevant to me.
3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why? BGG.con as I'd understand far more of what was going on.
4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)? Not a game, but I have customised my Carcassonne box to fit the three expansions I have in a tidy, organised manner.
5) What is currently your favorite television show? The Big Bang Theory is the best thing airing here (NZ) currently, that also happens to be my gaming night so I'm glad to have seen it already.
6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy? Monopoly, I have friends that still enjoy it and I'd be able to enjoy the time with them even if I wasn't enjoying the game. Diplomacy just doesn't appeal.
7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers? The finger thing. That would bother me about anything I own. (Books, DVDs, clothes)
8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score? 58 in the solo-version (thanks to the .swf file uploaded by BGG user Redking), 36 three player in the family version.
9) How did you discover Euro-style games? I was taught how to play Catan by one of my church small group leaders.
10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type? I have played Ogre, but it was the Atari computer version. I don't recall ever playing anything that would be considered a tabletop wargame unless Risk or BattleLore count.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?

I'll answer "Why?" first: Origins. "When" is whenever Origins is: either June or July.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?

Dominion was on the list and I nominated it, but since it's not out yet, not too many people have played it yet. I expect it will get nominated next year.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?

BGG.con. I can avoid international travel.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?

I created my own Gnostica deck, does that count?

5) What is currently your favorite television show?

I regularly watch NCIS, Jeopardy!, and What's My Line? (yes, the panel show from the '50s and '60s. It's on Game Show Network.) Pick one.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?

Monopoly.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?

Cheetos-fingers would bother me more. Not that I would want to play with cell-phoner again, unless there was an emergency or something.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?

I've played the family game once. I scored 30 points (enough to win).

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?

Well, in the '80s, I started playing RPGs, and there were some proto-Euros at the game conventions I attended. My introduction to modern Euros came when I joined Mensa. Some of the games played at Games Nights were Euros (we play more of them these days).

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?

Does Star Fleet Battles count? If so, that would be the first--back in the early-to-mid '80s. If not, I'm not sure I can answer this yes.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
No.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
BGG.con. Because I 've never been there. One day.....

No, not yet.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?
C.S.I.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?

Cheeto fingers.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
It appears to average out to be January. Probably cos it's bleak, depressing and horrible outside. I hate winter.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
Dunno

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
BGG.con purely to see them put my animated avatar on my badge.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
I was working on an alternative actor/director pack for Hollywood Blockbuster. I also made my own deck of Breakaway Rider using proper pictures.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?
House, or DOCTOR House as it's known in Japan.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?
Never played Diplomacy so yeah, that.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
Cheesy fingers. It actually ruins the game components.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?
Yeah I played the German version last year some time. It was quite good but can't remember my score.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
Our lovely friends invited us over for the afternoon and suggested a game and brought out Settlers of Catan. I know, hardly original. My friend WAS brave though as the next time we went over he introduced me to Tigris and Euphrates. Bit of a jump strategy-wise.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?
Nah I haven't. The closest was probably when I started reading the rules for Ambush but what with moving to Japan I'd never have had the time to work it out properly so traded it for something else.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why? I only started recording plays in march this year, and so far we've played the most games in May. If May had easter and other holidays, that may well be why (more time).
2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one? I didn't participate in this.
3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why? Essen. It's only 1.5h by car. We're going for the first time this year.
4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)? Not unless adding card sleeves to protect the cards counts.
5) What is currently your favorite television show? Probably House MD.
6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy? Diplomacy, as I've never played before and from what I've read about it, I might like it. I know I don't like Monopoly.
7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers? Cellphone. The second thing can be solved by just not offering (game destroying) snacks anymore.
8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score? Yes. 34.
9) How did you discover Euro-style games? Not sure... We played games sometimes in our student housing, but those were usually Risk, Pachisi or Scotland Yard. Somehow that evolved into Settlers, Carcassonne, Lord of the Rings boardgame, Machiavelli and other euros I guess, though I have no idea how and why and when that happened
10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type? No.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?
October. At Essen I play a lott of games and after the show I have to try alll the new games.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?
No.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?
BGG.con. Because it's all about playing games. Essen is about testing new games not as much about playing them.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?
Yes.
When I was a kid I made my own Risk, didn't have the money to buy it.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?
House

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?
Never tried Diplomacy so it would be that one..

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?
Cheeto fingers.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?
1-player: 58 points.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?
Settlers at a friends place.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?

No real pattern.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?

No.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?

BGG.con, a) because it would be cheaper, b) because I don't speak German, and c) because BGG is more directed at actually playing games. I'm more interested in playing then buying.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?

Not a board game. I come from Miniature gaming, so there's a long list of those.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?

Tough one. Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Doctor Who or Torchwood.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?

Diplomacy

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?

Cell Phone.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?

Don't recall highest score. Once the game is over I hard time recalling scores. I do remember losing by one point.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?

Game store first, later my gaming group slowly moved that way.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?

Yes, probably Squad Leader. Maybe Air Force.

1) It seems like November is the month when I typically play the most games. Either it's because of BGG.Con or Essen-release excitement/opportunities.

2) There are so many 2008 Golden Geek nominees I think that it would be hard for me to say if a game I liked was excluded that escaped my notice.

3) Since I've never been to Essen, I would rather attend Essen, but just once and then all other years BGG.Con. Come on, October? Germany? Beer? Boardgames? That's a no brainer.

4) Umm. I've printed out player aids. That's about it for customizing any games for me.

5) News Hour with Jim Lehrer seems to be my current favorite TV show, though that will soon be switched to LOST.

6) I would rather play Diplomacy than Monopoly, but only because I haven't played it.

7) Cheeto dust on my game components would bother me more than a cell phone talker. A game long phone call is temporary. Cheeto dust is forever.

8) I have played Agricola. I believe my high score was in the neighborhood of the low 40s. Much room for improvement.

9) I discovered Euro-style games when a friend introduced me to Settlers of Catan.

10) I have played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame. My first, and pretty much last, game of this type was Avalon Hill's Kriegspiel, when I was about 12 years old. If I had discovered better wargames at that time I might be a totally different gamer today. That window of opportunity, however, closed. I am now not very likely to spend multiple hours at a table with one person recreating a famous conflict. It's just not in the cards anymore.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?

Probably December. It's the time I get guaranteed time off of work, so I get opportunities to meet people for gaming in addition to the montly game sessions I normally attend.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?

I don't bother with awards, so I haven't nominated any games.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?

BGG.con, because it's simply more affordable to attend and I don't have to worry about customs.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?

Yes. I've scratch-built a 3-D Car Wars collection with matchbox cars.

5) What is currently your favorite television show?

Currently broadcasting: The Amazing Race
All-Time: The Prisoner

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?

Monopoly, because it's less stressful, and I can more readily find players.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?

Cell phone users, because they inconvenience EVERYONE at the table. I can stop the cheesy fingers before it becomes a problem and insist they wash up.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?

Yes. 46 (I don't play it too often).

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?

My FLGS at the time got in Kremlin. A friend bought it and we played it, and I purchased the second copy the store received (after restocking it).

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?

A massive part of my collection are wargames. The first I played was Tobruk: Tank Battles in North Africa 1942, a game I would not recommend for newcomers.

Diplomacy- I understand that there are some decisions to make in this one.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why? Looking at my data, it seems that February is usually the month I have with the most plays. Not really sure why, though.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one? Love? Hmmm, I don't guess, so. However, I would have liked to see China Rails incuded.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why? At this point, BGG. In the future, perhaps Essen. Of course, if time, money, and spousal approval were no object, I might still choose Essen now.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)? I've altered rules to suit myself on quite a few over the years. Or do you referring to pieces? That I've not done . . . yet.

5) What is currently your favorite television show? Lost

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy? Diplomacy is a far better game. However, it seems to have pretty stringent requirements for number of players as well as a time and temperment. Assuming at least six players who are really interested and a guaranteed 6+ hours of time, I would go with Diplomacy. Otherwise, I would probably try to gut through a couple of hours of Monopoly.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers? I have a hard time imagining this scenario. I've never played with someone so rude as to talk on their cell-phone continually while playing. Although I've never been accosted by Cheeto dust fingers, I have played with people who eat, which generally does not bother me. I guess I would go with Cheeto-fingers guy.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score? 30-something, I think.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games? A friend of mine I gamed with in college showed us Settlers one day (many years after graduation). Unless you count Acquire, which we played a lot when we were in school together.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type? Alexander the Great, an old Avalon Hill game by E.G.G. Still own a copy of it that was given me by my uncle. Unfortunately, I never found anyone who was willing to play after that soblue

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score? HAVEN'T PLAYED IT - NOT INTERESTED
9) How did you discover Euro-style games? TICKET TO RIDE - DIDN'T LOOK INTERESTING BUT ALL THE GREAT REVIEWS AND I GAVE IT A TRY -- LOVE IT -- MOST EUROS WOULD BE GOOD IF THEY HAD A REAL THEME -- AT LEAST TtR DOES.
10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? THAT'S ALMOST ALL I PLAYED FOR 25 YEARS. THOSE ARE REAL GAMES, BUT MOSTLY FOR JUST 2 PLAYERS. EUROS ARE MUCH LIGHTER BUT BETTER FOR GROUPS OF PLAYERS. If so, what was your first game of this type? CHANCELLORSVILLE AND GETTYSBURG IN THE LATE 195Os, BUT AVALON-HILL WATERLOO IN 1962 WAS WHAT REALLY GOT ME HOOKED. THERE WERE SO FEW HEX-COUNTER GAMES FROM 1960 - 1966 I INVENTED MOST OF MY OWN INCLUDING A WWII GAME THAT WAS 12' X 6'.

1) What month of the year do you typically play the most games? Why?

I seem to play most of my games during the dark winter months from December to February.

2) Was an eligible game you love excluded from the 2008 Golden Geek Nominees? If so, which one?

Don't know about absolutely love but I do miss Darjeeling from the list of family games. Also Chang Cheng could have been a good addition to the gamers list.

3) Would you rather attend Essen or BGG.con? Why?

Yes. They are different enough to not be put against each other in a question like this, but since I'm in Europe I suspect I'll make it to Essen next year with a little planning - I thought I'd be able this year but other thing got in the way and I don't have any vacation days left.

4) Have you ever customized a game? If so, which one(s)?

Painted robots (RoboRally) and cars (Formula Dé). Printed all the boards and buildings for Puerto Rico made by Mike Doyle

5) What is currently your favorite television show?

Dobidoo. Really, these days I don't watch much non-sport TV.

6) Would you rather play Monopoly or Diplomacy?

That depends on the people I'm playing with. Diplomacy is the better game as such but I've seen one or two games go wrong so I'm a bit weary of this.

7) Which would bother you more: someone who continually talked on their cell phone while playing or someone who handles your game components with cheeto-dust-covered fingers?

The cell-phoner. The cheeto-dust can be wiped off, but someone constantly speaking on the phone can ruin you whole game-experience.

8) Have you played Agricola? If so, what was your highest score?

Yes. Just above 50 in a solo game, and I think 37 in a multi-player.

9) How did you discover Euro-style games?

Well, you see a friend of mine introduced me to Lord of the Rings which caused me to go search for a little more information on the internet, which led me to some obscure website which I believe almost noone hasn't heard of.

10) Have you ever played a traditional hex-and-counter style wargame? If so, what was your first game of this type?

I have, but that was back in the '80s and I have no idea what it was right now.
