So I'm a month late in this, considering the girls went back to school at the end of August, but here goes.

Seeing how much my girls (Kaylah 7, and Karly 6) enjoyed all their children's games, and more recently Blokus and Kids of Catan, I decided that this summer was the time to introduce them to more of my game collection.

So here's the list of what we play and what I taught (or tried to teach) them this summer.

Since the kids liked Blokus and puzzles, we started with Carcassonne. Boy was this a hit, with both of them, my wife and step-daughter.

I played with the girls 39 times over the summer! Considering that they played this one one or two times without me for every time we played together, this is the hands down winner for Favorite Summer Game.

The next game we tried, this one was the favorite of Kaylah. However, since their was a bit of reading and more planning, Karly didn't enjoy it as much.

Even so, I played this one 14 times with them over the summer. A respectable number, but no where near Carcassonne's popularity.

While the girls liked the animal theme of this game, it requires a bit more planning.

Again, Kaylah liked it more than Karly, so this only saw the table 6 times over the summer. I'm sure that we'll play it more in the future. Once the girls are a bit older and can plan more. Also, I found the variant rules that eliminates the rich get richer problem that usually let the early leader win the game.

Well we couldn't forget the game that the whole family enjoyed. So Blokus came out 6 times, tying O Zee Lo Mio.

So trying for something a bit different, I brought out Formula De. While the kids enjoyed it, the wife didn't. The kids enjoyed rolling the die and moving their cars, but needed help with choosing the right die and moving. As such, we'll probably wait to play this again until they are a bit older and can do some planning (and Dad can get some more tracks ).

Even so this came out 4 times over the summer.

Looking for another new game to alternate with Carcassonne, I broke out Dragonland, a game I had picked up years before.

The girls enjoyed it, and we played 7 times. Being simplier than O Zoo le Mio, the girls played it many times without me.

Another game that I taught the girls.

We played it 3 times, but they needed a little help with decision making. I'm sure they'll enjoy it more once they're a little older.

This was my first attempt to get the family to play a cooperative game.

The girls tried, but this was a little advanced for them. We tried twice, before putting it away for next summer.

They liked being on a team, but had trouble with the various decision paths and planning ahead.

Another attempt to teach cooperative gaming. We played without the traitor, but the girls still needed help with the cards and planning ahead.

So after a pair of tries, this went back on the shelf.
