Not sure why I've started buying all these games. Mostly blame it on BGG's direct influence on my OCD tendencies. Fact is, I now go to the storage closet saying "I'm gonna pick one of my unplayed games and start learning it's rules. Suddenly, I stand there and look and become stumped by the large number of choices (>110). All of them are great, after all, I wouldn't have bought them. However, after 10 minutes of not being able to decide which game to try next....I end up closing the door and going back to playing Xbox 360 to keep my mind numbingly void of any periphery vision.

So now I have an excess of unplayed games, collecting dust in my closet.....yet the pre-orders keep going out because of so many new games on the horizon that keep getting listed. I have at least 15 games on preorder right now. With this many games, I've mathematically determined I statistically do not have enough hours left in my lifetime to play all these games. I therefore fear I've become what I dreaded most...becoming a board game collector.

This list starts off with some simple, plastic-heavy boardgames. The meatier stuff, like hex-n-counter wargames, follows shortly thereafter, followed by card-driven wargames. You can almost see the "evolution" of my gaming preferences as you go down the list.

You guys have to help me figure out how to start playing all these, and which ones should come first. What to do?

This didnt start my journey (that was A&A), but i consider this the best game there is in the biz...so I'm listing it first. Big Tolkien fan that I am!

This game, though barely played, took me into a new hobby genre (as if I wasnt already too busy as it is)....miniature painting. currently 2/3 of the way through painting all the miniatures. By the time I finish, they probably will come out with a pre-painted set. Just my luck. Regardless, once i finish painting the plastic plethora, I definitely want this one on the table again.

p.s. I bought the expansion too....gonna paint those as well!! ...one day...

Its a shame my son (a non gamer) is gonna inherit all these games when I die one day and sell them via ebay to all of you!!

This is what started it all. I recall my college days when I inadvertently walked into a friend's dorm room where they were playing this game. Life has never been the same since. Purchased this back when it was part of the GamesMaster series and learned how to dominate as Russia. This box of plastic crack led me to eventually purchase every A&A expansion to the series, though I've never played anything after Pacific Theater. But hey, they are in my closet if ever I decide to! And yes, I've pre-ordered the anniversary edition!

Really liked ths game and have actually played it quite a bit in 2007. Helps when my gaming friend has ADD and needs a game with dice and cards to keep him busy. This game is actually the door that took me to the house where all games by Richard Borg reside.....and eventually caused me to purchase anything he designed...several of which game series are in this list...

Axis & Allies game....Avalon Hill....Hasbro...Battle Cry (ebay)....Richard Borg...C&C:Ancients (GMT).

That was the pathway A&A took me down to further compulsive purchases. Once I found out there were expansions, I knew I had to have those as well. So now they all sit quietly and well-behaved, stickers peeled, and put on all the blocks, with additional scenarios compiled nicely in a binder, but never played not a single time. Sigh...maybe one day...

Bought the Giant and elemental to add to the game whe nI play it. Still hasn't happened. Bought an extra copy to play Epic wth friends. Still hasn't happened. Preordered the new troll expansion coming out thinking I would be able to play it. Wanna bet it still won't happen?

BIG fan of WW2 board games...especially anything to do with the Eastern Front. After all, that was where the war's outcome was really determined. Bought this and played it about 3 times....then bought all the expansions and havent played since. Not sure if there is a trend there or not. Play a game...get the expansions...then get overwhelmed with all the choices and move on to something else. This is a great series that will always enjoy a hefty space in the corner of my storage closet. Mostly because I cannot get to it due to all the other games in the way. To make it even better, I must find more room now that I continue to pre-order everything that comes out for this series. and now that FFG has the series....who know what kind of reprints I will be forced to endure?

Bought this monster game because of the A&A feature. Opened it up....stood in awe at the size of the board...tried to figure out why all the nation's tanks all looked like German Tigers...then boxed up the game and put it in the closet. Havent touched it since as I am too busy keeping up with all my other incoming purchases. First time I saw Italy as a separate entity though...very cool.

I figured if I was gonna own Memoir 44, I ought to have this one too. Having played Memoir a few times, I was sure I'd eventually have some play time for this game. Have since bought the expansion, but havent played it yet. Only time spent so far with this game was opening the box, sorting the myriad of pieces, oogling the maps and rulebook...then packing it away to go check to see if UPS had delivered my next preorder yet. BTW...yes I have preorder the Normandy expansion and yes I look forward to anything they do on the Eastern Front

Since WotR and TOI introduce me to the world that is Fantasy Flight, there of course became a magnetic pull towards Starcraft, especially since that is one of my all time fav PC games. I actually resisted purchasing this one since it wasnt a WW2 genre....but the more you think about something the more you want it. Have actually played this about 4 times and enjoyed it. Still need to get around to fixing/glueing the broken pieces that came like that in the game. Yes...I plan to buy the Brood War expansion. Yes...I bought the Typon expansion off of ebay for $15! :oP

Continuing my slide down obession lane with large game boxes from FFG, Starcraft led me to World of Warcraft. Actually got some good play time out of this one with 4 other friends. We managed to play the two factions simultaneously so as to keep the play time dow nto one night's sitting. Thought about painting these miniatures...just thought about it. Wuldn't want that to cut into my time looking for more board games to buy. Yes..I bought every expansion and also pre-ordered the Adventures game.

all these big board game and plethora of plastic pieces inevitably caused me to disclover Eagle games. After the WW2 genre, any Romanesce games have always garnered my attention and my wallet.

Showed this game to my friends...played it for about an hour...then moved on to something else. Not sure why they didnt like it. I was actually enjoying building roads from city to city. I think it was mostly because Tim was taking so long on his turn to decide what to do. He has ruined many a game's rating by doing that to us!

A&A board game and the masochistic advertising group at Hasbro eventually took me into the world of A&A miniatures. OMG...have I dropped some major $$$ on this stuff. Even bought by the cases. Now have multiples of every piece of every set. What was worse, the re-sizing to 15mm change that they inflicted upon us didnt deter me from continuing to buy this stuff. I think ebay has stock in Hasbro because I also spent a lot of change on their site buying up singles I couldnt get elsewhere. If I had to point at one reason for my divorce, this is it. Even now I'm adding up how much their Eastern Front expansion is going to cost me. You guys need to hurry up and do an intervention!

After A&A miniatures, I told myself I would not succumb to the naval version. I need to stop lying to myself. Even now, I have the complete first set and have the complete set of Task Force on the way. I confess this also caused me to spend too much time on ebay looking for extra zero, kamikaze, and stuka planes. Did I also mention all the 3D islands I bought? Did I mention all the Plano tackleboxes I had to buy to store all these collectible minitatures? Plano & WOTC must be in a guild together.

# of times I've played this so far = zero.

I told you I was a big fan of WW2, right? Well, I used to keep telling myself how the hex wargames were ugly and I wasnt interested if the game didnt have plastic miniatures. I had heard nightmares about ASL and didnt want to spend time figuring out if a guy was hit by schrapnel while bending down to ties his boot laces. Then I found this game. The result of which, along with all its expansions, are the many other hex wargames now stocked in my closet.

One of BGG's strong recommendations was this one....though I'n not a big Bulge fan, I thought I needed at least one hex game in my collection for this event. Gotta say...L2 makes quality products...though they are not retailer friendly. This is some great eye candy....but I astill havent played it...at least the pieces have actual pictures o n them and not the stupid Nato symbols. I refuse to buy a wargame if they use Nato sympols for tanks. The big X for infantry I can tolerate, but nothing more.

Bought this game as GMT along with the Deluxe map. Do they sell deluxe maps for every game they make? Why not put the deluxe map in with the game to begin with. Oops...I forgot...somebody isnt satisfied with the money they take from me and want even more. Well, at least they don't do this approach with automobiles...or do they?

Still unplayed in my closet...though I bout have the map memorized. FYI...this took me into the world of CDG...more to come on that later.

Somehow, I got obessed with hex-and-counter wargames related to the Eastern Front. maybe it was all the tank battles and mobile tactics involved. I dont know. I just know I started buying up good games that covered that theater of operations. And this is a doozie. The weight of all the goodies in the box alone caused a serious lump of coinage in freight costs.

Really want to play this game....but still too busy trying to buy up others like it.

Took a chance on Uwe and preordered this on L2's web site. All I can say is...what an awesome game!! Top of the line from anything else out there as far as I'm concerned!! Rules are straightforward and I get same day responses from Uwe if I send him an email.

This one will be on my table a lot. Can hardly wait for the other games to come out from Academy in the COH series. Uwe, you have my financial support. Don't spend it all in one place.

OK. I bought this game off ebay since GMT was out of stock. Darn seller sends me the game, but with no map. I complained but he never responded. I went to GMT to see if they had a spare copy of the map that I could purchase separately. Otherwise, the game was no good to me. GMT sent me the Tannenburg map alright....free of charge. GMT...you have great customer service!! And you have my customer loyalty because of it! Now can you send me the Battle of Marne map too? And tell Denise I said thanks!!

p.s. I now have two copies of this game :oP

Still havent played this one yet, though. Nor it's sequel game CoG II that I also bought (see next).
