I have always enjoyed the P500 Geeklists that BGG users have created for the various wargame companies. It's nice to see a monthly update of how the games I am interested in are doing and I've often learned about new games because they were included on these lists. Unfortunately, the MMP and Columbia Games P500 lists had a lapse for a few months.

I was glad to see that citizen k restarted the MMP list last month. (The GMT list by Cleitus the Black thankfully continued uninterrupted.) However, the monthly list for Columbia Games hasn't been updated in a little while and I figured it was about time that someone did.

I'll basically keep this list in the same format as the GMT and MMP lists, so that it can hopefully be as useful to everyone as those other excellent lists are.

Be sure to visit Columbia Games GamePlan website to preorder these titles at:

The latest from Hammer of the Scots and Crusader Rex designer, Jerry Taylor.

There are lots of reasons to be excited for this. Jerry Taylor's previous games have both been great and the artwork for this one is being done by the brilliant Mark Mahaffey.

This one is well above it's needed amount of preorders so I imagine it's only a matter of time before we see it.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Wars of the Roses expands on the award-winning Hammer of the Scots game system by greatly enriching the card deck. "Holding your cards close to your vest" has never meant more. Players can launch or foil conspiracies, bring Scotland into the wars, hire mercenaries, flee into exile, employ spies, bribe neutral nobles, call up the standing army at Calais, mobilize the powerful Northern or Welsh Marches, or even marshal the fickle winds of fate to threaten the best laid plans of the enemy.

A net drop in this one since May. Doesn't seem to matter though since Columbia has announced this will be released this month.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
This fast-playing game reflects the balanced struggle between the Mexicans and the Texans. Sam Houston must delay superior Mexican forces until he can gather enough troops to risk a battle. The Mexicans must sweep across Texas with utmost speed because time and supply are their enemies. The significant role of "American Volunteers" in the eventual outcome becomes clear.

Also, the rules for this game have been posted on the game page. Sounds like this one will have interesting game play.

Another slight drop on this abstracted Marines wargame. The Marines are fighting against the generic bad guys, "Opposition Force," which allows for many scenarios. I may be completely wrong about this, but the open format of this game sounds a bit like Wizard Kings, only with less magic and more guns. Maybe a better comparison is to Victory: The Blocks of War.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Based on the modern Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) pre-stationed aboard ships, close to the trouble spots of the world. This force of about 2500 Marines is prepared "to kick the door in", whenever and wherever they are needed.

The Marines are supported by F-18 Fighters, Harrier jump jets, Cobra attack helicopters, M1 Abrams tanks and Hummer heavy weapons carriers. Armed with the most advanced and lethal weapons systems, the Marines abhor losses and never leave a man behind.

Also, be sure to check out the first scenario for the game, which has been posted to the company website.

Sadly, there has been a slight drop on this game as well.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Shiloh was a fascinating ACW battle fought in April 1862. A surprise Confederate attack, led by Albert Sydney Johnson, nearly swept encamped Union defenders into the Tennessee River. The next day, a reinforced Union army counter-attacked and drove the CSA line back in confusion and retreat. A CSA victory would have ruined the career of General Ulysses S. Grant. But the battle instead ended with a Union victory, the death of Albert Sydney Johnson, and the eventual demise of Confederate hopes in the West. Both days of Shiloh can be played separately or together.

Nice to see an increase in preorders on this one since a few of the other games have dropped a bit during the last couple of months. This game is designed by Bruce McFarlane and uses a modified version of the Gettysburg: Badges of Courage system.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
The Battle of Austerlitz was fought on December 2, 1805. Napoléon's Grand Armée concluded a brilliant campaign by defeating a combined force of Russian and Austrian troops. Napoleon lured the two allies to their destruction by feigning weakness, then crushing their hasty advance with a left wing envelopment. It is considered Napoléon's greatest victory.

A comment from the designer indicates this game is almost ready to be published:

The mechanics and scenarios for Austerlitz are almost set. All that really remains is to get the pre-orders up to 500.

A small increase for this reprint of a 1982 Gamma Two classic.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Slapshot is a wheeling, dealing game for hockey nuts. Each player assumes the role of team manager. The object is to skillfully manage your team into the playoffs and then win the championship. During the regular season you can improve your team with drafts and trades, but injuries can upset the best of plans. Ultimately, your skill as manager determines if your team wins or loses.

Slapshot includes 49 zany hockey nuts like Slash Gordon, Puck Rogers, Ian Jury, Cheap Shot, Le Goon, and Jack the Tripper.

Not a lot of new information on this operational scale Civil War game, but it has had some preorder growth.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Shenandoah covers the remarkable Valley Campaign of May/June 1862. Led by Thomas 'Stonewall' Jackson, a smaller Confederate army with audacious marching and fighting paralyzed and defeated three enveloping Union armies. Military students worldwide study Jackson's strategy and tactics to this day.

The CSA player has the advantage of central position, but must use it aggressively to prevent the Union armies from combining against him. The USA player has a clear advantage in numbers, but must cope with a command system that penalizes the wide separation of his three forces.

This is the newest game on Columbia Games P500 list and it looks like a great one. The game has been worked on for about two years by first time designer, Justin Thompson.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Rome vs Rome brings the drama of the Roman Civil War to life. Players take control of the legions of Caesar or Pompey and fight to rule Rome as Emperor. There are two campaigns: "Crossing the Rubicon" in which Caesar faces Pompey, and "Augustus", in which Caesar's nephew Octavian battles with Marc Antony and Cleopatra.

The map board depicts the major theatre of operations during the Roman Civil War 49BC-31BC.

Also, the rules for this one have been posted to the Columbia Games webpage. They are still in beta form and will likely be fleshed out a bit in the coming months but they give a pretty good view of what this game will be like.

We're seeing some good P500 growth for Columbia's 2nd game on Rommel's North African campaign. This game focuses on the Battle of Tobruk and Operation Crusader.

Notes from the company webpage:
Quote:
Rommel's brilliant campaigns in North Africa have endless appeal to military gamers. It's the only theater of WWII where small, mobile armored forces enaged in a chess-like struggle. Rommel's Obsession covers the 1941 battle for Tobruk and the British counterattack known as "Operation Crusader".

There are lots of additional resources on the game page, including labels, rules overview, and a preview of the markers.
