This is the traditional weekly thrift and bargain finds list.
These lists may start empty but as always: add your items.
Put in what you consider a bargain, tell us how much you paid and the place you got it from. Bargains can be thrift store finds or any second-hand purchases or discounted games bought new. Don't forget to add your encounters with the Thrift Store Irritant Squad™ and any other embellishments in order to make it even more interesting.

Slim pickings as usual... found this in a thrift shop for four dollars. The box is pretty beat up with a split corner or two, but the important thing is the pieces, right? Well, I inventoried it at home, and my satisfaction (if not excitement) grew as all of the sets of cards appeared to be complete. Then I checked the spy I.D. cards. Only five - the French spy is missing! Bah, of all the things to lose. Seriously, I think even all the little plastic pegs are present.
Same thrift store, same condition (beat up) box, same price (four dollars). I haven't played this game before and couldn't figure out on the spot if it was complete, but hey, lasers for four bucks? Turns out it is complete with rules and working lasers. Not a game I've been hoping for, but I'm pleased it fell into my lap. My seven-year-old is even more pleased!
actually managed to pick up a few things this week. 1st up this for £2.99 - older Gibson edition with flat box as pictured. 100% complete and in excellent condition - apart from 1 ripped corners on the box.
then what looks like a really rare Crossbows & Catapults chariot battle set for £2.99 same charity shop as above. Very good condition missing 1 soldier (I have many spares) Box has some rips but I feel ebait potential in the offing
The kids are off from school (year round school) so I'm spending more time picking the up and dropping them off at the sitter. This cuts my thrifting time, and it been dry, dry, dry.
I did see this little Ravensburger, which if it turned out a bad game (how could it?) would still be perfect for the bits. All bits are reusable, Bandu, Bazaar and O'Zoo Le Mio.
I did get a Trift Store Irritant moment:
After finding the game and standing on line (behind a very attractive lady, so no problem there (Gee, those thifters are a bunch of pervs!) I made my way to the cashier. I only had a twenty and this was 99 cents.
The cashier started counting out ones, which made me a little surprised. She started running out of bills, and started counting quarters... Well her supervisor steps in and interrupts, I have a handful of bill and quarters (up to $12.50.) The cashier starts counting again, but I have her back the money so she would start from scratch. The supervisor interrupts a second time. She is up to eleven, and we get interrupted a third time! At that point I tell her to QUIT INTERRUPTING, CAN'T YOU SEE SHE'S COUNTING! She ignores me, of course, and we get a fourth interruption.
The cashier sees a ten dollar bill in there and gives it to me, so that we can move quicker and actually are able to finish before we get interrupted again.
I know new employees need help, but at least let them do their jobs, why dont'cha!
May I pass along my congratulations for your great interdimensional breakthrough. I am sure, in the miserable annals of the Earth, you will be duly enshrined. -- Lord John Whorfin
Box is a bit beat up, but it looks complete. Need to do second inventory to be sure.
I was off all last week - anyone miss me? Disney land with my daughter, and a bad sinus cold later in the week kept me out of the thrifts last week (probably a good thing as the prior couple of weeks have been very dry).
I've been wanting to upgrade my cheap set to a nice one. Nice cloth case set made by fashion designer Pierre Cardin, for some reason. No cups and missing 1 die, but all chips accounted for. The chips have a really great poker chip-like clack to them. Also has a built in metal score counter.
St. Vincent de Paul $2.99
Ebay check shows a completed sale of this for $62!
Snuck out at luch today and hit up a couple thrift stores. I did not find anything worth much but I did pick up a couple games my wife and kids should like.
First up I found a strange version of stratego - De Luxe. I could not find a picture of the edition I found. It is a white box, looks really old but is in good shape, and printed in the Netherlands. Really nice looking complete game and I wish I knew how old it is.
