Okay, Aldie just gave me 500 geekgold. I have no idea what to spend it on. So I'm going to give some of it away.

If you are a user without an avatar and trying to save up for one then post on here a geeklist item with your geeklist or thread or image or file or whatever that you think deserves some gold and I'll give you some if I like it.

It seems fair that if you've seen someone without an avatar contribute something good then you can propose them for this.

It would be not for me. But if you could add some donation to this Geeklist of mine, I am sure, there will be even more and even better and sharper and greater and more outstanding photos from Essen this year than last year:

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/25381

Right now (without any entry yet, the fair is staring tomorrow for the public), the "pot" is 111.50. Since it is divided into 5 parts for 5 categories to win, and last time I could give 19 to each winner, this time could be a bit more! I mean, all these people in hell-paradise of boardgame-stuffed halls, other people screaming, ramming, buying, playing, and our hero takes in total calm a perfect shot. I mean - hey, some of yours for this, Tony, okay?

I know that he would love an avatar, but that he wouldn't stoop to shameless begging here. In fact, he doesn't even know that I'm posting this. On the other hand, Jeff has contributed some excellent material that is worthy of GeekGold, and few things would delight him more than a surprise GeekGold gift for purchasing an avatar (he currently is 21.12GG short).

In particular, I nominate two of his contributions for your consideration:

#1 Would you like some cheese with that w(h)ine? Board Games and Viticulture!
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/34833

This is a very funny and clever list that hasn't nearly got the attention that its witty contents deserve. Jeff describes boardgames as if they were fine wines, with eloquent and overstated wine-terminology. Consider these gems that he came up:
Quote:
Agricola: This delightful offering from the Essen '07 line, is a clean, crisp vintage that gamers will want to drink down to the dregs. Perfectly aged and clarified, this game will impress with its long legs and strong finish. Best savoured as a main course, the 'Gric's bold, yet unpretentious flavour might easily be paired with an appetizer of Ticket to Ride: The Card Game and followed by a lush dessert of Rum & Pirates. Sure to please the most discerning of palates, this spirited and winsome vintage will prove a sparkling addition to any gaming cellar!

Stone Age: With its elegant appearance and well crafted flow of play this relative new-comer from the 2008 Rio Grande stable will undoubtedly become a regular guest at many a gaming table in the years to come. A truly ‘vintis vinifera’ production, when uncorked for the first time the seasoned 'gammelier' will immediately detect the subtle floral scent of The Pillars of the Earth, with the rich undertones of Saint Petersburg. An incredibly well balanced vintage, Stone Age seamlessly blends together a number of mechanics to produce a complex, layered flavour that strikes the palate in a profound and yet unassuming way. Its highly transparent character makes it an ideal choice for introducing new comers to the exciting world of board gaming!

#2 "You've Lost and You'll Like It!" Board Gaming With Chuck Norris
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/35071
This extremely funny list earned over 200 thumbs, but only a 1GG tip. It gives humorous highlights about what would happen if Chuck Norris played boardgames. Just two examples from his list:
Quote:
Agricola: Chuck Norris doesn’t need major improvements to feed his family. He could feed his family by slaughtering a wild boar with his bare hands and then cooking it with the raw heat of his rage. And he could do it any time he pleased.

Go Away Monster!: There will be no monsters to find because they will all have run away. Afterall, when the Boogie Man goes to bed at night, he checks under his bed for Chuck Norris.

Jeff's contributions have already earned him over 900 thumbs, so I'd say he rightly deserves far more than the 8.88 GeekGold he's currently earned (nearly half of which was donated by me). With nine golden thumbs already, he's almost earned himself a smiling meeple, so surely he also deserves an avatar.
I rest my case.

Nomination respectfully submitted by Ender Wiggins.

I really like Pandemic and despite my mistake when I first played it, my enjoyment wasn't spoiled.

I am interested in how people rate and relate to Space Alert and Ghost Stories too.

I would definitely rate that guy who did a Pandemic Review in the form of a Poll.

That was class and deserves an Avatar!

I feel a bit guilty for nominating myself, but...

I wrote this detailed review of Mystery Mansion a while back. I was quite proud of it, but it turns out Mystery Mansion gets a little less traffic than Agricola, and it didn't get much love.

The other contribution I'm really proud of that didn't get much attention is my Battleship Express ship-by-ship strategy guide:

http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/335911

I saved up enough GG for an avatar once, but then decided that I would rather have my "Functional Programmer" and "Heroscape Fan" microbadges, which you see there on the left.

Anyway, thanks for the generosity. Even without the geekgold, it's nice to have a way to direct people to underloved contributions.

Hi Tony - I'm certainly trying to save up for an avatar - uploading a few images etc. There are a number of contributions i've done that i liked doing, including some of my geeklists. But i'll include a review i wrote for Perikles as something i really liked doing.

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/thread/316602

One of my favourite games and a big hit at our games club - i love the simplicity combined with depth in this game.

Edit: Thanks to a donation from a geekbuddy - Elirlandes - i've bought an avatar! woohoo - so no need for another GG gift (unless you really want to give!!)

I'm new to BGG and recently posted my first game design: Melt

It was just recently approved to be listed and my co-designer (David Short) and I are stoked about getting more images and information posted about it on BGG. We have one prototype completed and have been play testing for a while now. Next weekend we plan on taking it to a local convention to get some feedback and exposure.

I really look forward to becoming part of and contributing to the BGG community and getting an avatar would help to jump-start that.

Thanks for your consideration!

This was my first contribution to the 'Geek. I know it's not the best Geeklist ever created or anything, but I thought it was a neat idea. I've also written a couple of session reports and reviews. Mostly, however, my contributions have been in various threads on the site which have netted me a ton of thumbs, but I feel sad without an avatar. I'm only about 6 GG away and just haven't had time to play anything to write a review on!

This was my first (and only so far) geeklist made, and it was fairly successful. Interested in statistical analysis as I am, I wondered how to treat the logged games on the geek.

I like the way you yourself avoided most of the issues around this by looking at unique players per month.

Anyway, I think you might like the questions and answers it has, I found it very interesting at least (and I would still like a directive from up above on how games should be logged, would make it easier to analyse).

Here is the first of my completist's guide series. I picked Memoir'44 as my first games series to cover. Although there are many lists of all the expansions for a given game series, they often don't go into the details of which scenarios are included and which expansions you will also need for a given scenario. Also, in the case of M'44, many scenarios have also been released in magazines, online, or as special giveaways. I thought it would be helpful to have all of this in one place and created this list.

I've also created the Completist's Guide to BattleLore (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/34246)
and hope to cover some of my other favorite series in the future -- Catan, Dungeon Twister, C&C Ancients, BattleCry, Titan -- just to name a few.

Thanks for the list idea, but most importantly, I just hope that my geeklists are useful to the community.

Geoff

I have a couple game tutorial programs I made and uploaded for Carcassonne and Settlers of Catan.

If I invite a friend or coworker over to a game night and we'll be playing one of those games I let them go through my tutorial during the week and they're a little more up to speed on game night.
