Haven't played this in a while despite its goodness. We thought Krista was running away with the game since she quickly completed 3 inventions with different symbols. I think she ended the game with all 5. I think she passed on getting extra people in the first half of the game to focus on upgrading labs.
Dave and Adam took a 2nd lab as one of their starting favors. The starting player token bounced between the two of them for the entire game. Adam got most of his people really early in the game.
I took components as one of my favors and tried to make those last for 3 inventions. I upgraded my lab and got a mechanical man as my other 2 favors. For the first few weeks, I focused on getting more people and finishing 4 and 7 week inventions. I completed one of them the same time Krista did and she won the auction for the card. I had a plan of getting my 2nd lab and upgrading it all the way in one turn. I thought I would be all alone since everyone else was pretty much done. This was a bad plan. I also made a timing mistake at the end of the game ending with a wasted research week.
The final score came as a surprise to me. I never expected Adam was doing that well. Didn't think I was doing that well either and I thought Krista had more than she did. To think that final component I bought for 2 florin and never used would have made the difference...
I could have sworn Shea and Angie were right behind me. Everyone was already in a game when they arrived though. This game didn't get recorded, but I'm pretty sure it got played. There may have been others that I missed.
All I know was this is one of the Mu and (even?) more games. I'm guessing it involves partners since the ongoing tally score is split in pairs. It looks like Shea was on the winning partnership for every hand.
We drafted the E deck for this game. This was the first time drafting for all of us. I was afraid it would give Andrew a huge advantage since he typically tries to play as many of his cards as possible.
All but one of the major improvements got bought which is rare for our group. The clay and stone oven were bought fairly early by Andrew and Mike. It was a rather surprising move to me since neither one had fields or grain. I was also a little upset since I tried planting a little earlier than I normally do this game since it seemed like everybody else wasn't using those action spaces. I somehow managed to max out fields, grains, and veggies, which I don't think I've ever done before. I also managed to max out pastures with a calculated move of delaying building fences to get more wood. Fortunately, I guessed correctly that no one else was going to take the fence action. My only negatives were in sheep and cattle.
I had played a card that gave bonus points to whoever played the most occupations. It looked like Andrew and Krista were fighting over that bonus. Krista managed to win, but she thought she was getting 3 pts per occupation instead of 3 pts total. She was the only player to not get all 5 family members, only getting 4. However she and Andrew were the only 2 players to get a stone house, but it wasn't enough to offset her 5 unused spaces.
Mike had a solid farm getting no negatives at all. However, he wasn't able to max out any category and only got 3 pts for cattle and fenced stables.
