After being a daily visitor for some time now, I think I've seen ample evidence that an interest in board games is the only thing that we all have in common. I'm not even sure we'll all human (I'm looking at you GROGnads. Speaking of GROGnads, do you ever wonder if he's actually a complex text parsing/learning program created by some government agency?).

So, somewhere out there in this vast monstrosity of passion and nerdiness that we call the Geek, there are those who enjoy writing and those who enjoy what others have written. This list is for them.

Herein you will find a sampling of my personal poetry. I believe, for it to communicate to it's fullest potential, poetry should be performed. However, I'm not about to post any YouTube videos, so you'll have to make do with some comments from the author.

This one is fairly straightforward. The sheep-like nature of people and the corruption of relationships is exhausting, frustrating, and contagious.

Dissatisfied, discontent.
It's all broken, twisted, bent.
Distant friends having been rent
apart, broken heart, misery starts,
mentally spent.

Walls separate, perpetuate the frustrated to desecrate their hands instead of taking stands against the demands of the mindless no ones, the know-nones, that live in the beguiled state of denial, foolish child, that's you.
You can't hide what you've denied inside your mind, it's mine, it's been mined like gold, each thought's been bought and sold and you've sought recompense.
You've called and stalled and called and stalled until you surmised the pain, the disdain they hold for the unwise.
Realize the only prize is dissidence between you and I, rectify it please.

This cyclic motion, there's no magic potion to break the chains of this unmanned heresy.
It still remains deep within me. I hate playing this game, it's all the same, it's all I see.
I've never felt so far away from myself and everyone else.
Please find me.

One of several poems I wrote declaring a deep and eternal passion for a girl I had no relationship with whatsoever. Also, I wrote this well before anyone had even heard of Jerry McQuire, so the ending wasn't as cheesy as it may seem now. Or maybe it was. But that she was the best and worst parts of my life, that she carried with her both ecstasy and terror and that both were absolutely necessary is, to me, an important concept concerning love.

You are the sliver of sun that peeks through the crack in the blinds that hang over my window.
You are the hammer blow I receive when I draw them back to see your light in full.
You are the silver lining that brings hope into the cloudy days that plague my life.
You are the shadow that all light must bear and that stabs at my heart like a knife.

You are the raindrops I hear, as I sit in my room, rhythmically hitting my window.
You are the clouds in the sky sending soft showers down and watching the green earth below.
You are the lake of the morn on which rests a fog like a blanket to ward of the chill.
You are the tears that gather in my eyes and to the cold floor below do they spill.

You are the sweet-smelling air that I breathe while standing in your garden of flowers.
You are the gentle wind that whistles through the trees a song I listen to for hours.
You are the ocean breeze that billows out my sails and that could take me anywhere.
You are the fierce gusts that drive me to my knees and that will forever hold me there.

You are the spring in my step, the limp in my stride, and the gleam I have in my eyes.
You are the rage in my voice, the joy in my heart, and the pain I hear in my cries.
You are everything and more, my love, than I had ever dared hope you would be.
You are my jubilation, you are my despair, and you are the completion of me.

George R. R. Martin's Song of Fire and Ice played some part in this. In truth, though, it's more about the fear of leading a meaningless life than it is about the fear of the Others beyond the Wall.

The shadows call for more than just my death,
the bitter draught steals into my soul to worship them with fire, with life,
sing praise between two fingers and bloody teeth,
the taste of iron, hard and sharp,
an aching in the joints,
bound wrists,
and tears.
I know this fear,
it is old and reeks of death, of ink and stale promises, and bloated worm-ridden lies.
Weariness of years of war.
I’ve dropped my sword and my eyes droop, but for too long, too long,
gutted, laid open,
blood ribbons pecked at by crows and similar foul,
a visible stink escapes my open, swollen belly.
How many men would retch upon themselves at the sight of their own dead bodies if only they could see before they died?
I’ve been blessed with good eyes.
Shame cuts deep and blood wells and leaks and breaks free from me, would that I did not need this warm, red sea to make me clean,
a dream only, but for the death I taste.
I hear and hate the screams, the cries to die, but death unknowing is death forever, no better than death denying or defying.
It’s death and I fear I may yet claim it.
This golden raiment has ill a flavor, it does not suit me.
I wish it fit me, perhaps it did, but now I’m rid of it and the taste of light and kisses.
My breath is ragged like strips of rotted shadow, broken rattle, knuckles wrapped round bloody shaft, to stand, to threaten, to hang or beckon?
The sound a dull chafe, an echo breaks down a hollow well, water fell and filled distilled and drank but bitter.
Winter comes.

Simple, yet hopefully thought provoking, I wrote this a long time ago and gave it the subtitle of A Tribute to Holden Caufield.

I've become a black hole that pulls everything in
pulls everything into the darkness and pain
and the more it pulls in, the greater it's reach
and the less it can actually gain

I've become a temple that has little room
it has little room because inside is it's sin
and the more sin it has, the more it wants someone to see
and the harder 'tis to bring someone in

I've become a strange path that follows a circle
follows a circle round a continuous bend
and the longer one follows, the farther one gets
and the further one is from the end

I've become a great cliff that grows ever higher
grows ever higher away from the ground
and the higher it grows, the more perfect the view
and the harder it'll be to go down

While I hope for better in the next life, here and now, there is a security in despair.

It is a paradoxical relief to know that I will not necessarily find light in this world of darkness.
I will not necessarily love, wed, and sire children.
I will not necessarily find a life's work, a field that captures and holds my interest or in which I am honored to see the results of my labors and in doing so receive satisfaction.
I will not necessarily ever achieve that spiritual state that I have perhaps mistakenly perceived in the lives of those around me, one of victory and a daily joy and energy for life and love.
But I will some day soon, relatively speaking, be taken from this land of shadow once and for all, to be placed within a world of perpetual light and love, there knowing, loving, and doing what and when I should.
To say this more briefly: my time here is but a tick from the clock of eternity.
My labors, my loves, the fruit of my loins all to dust, as all things must.
My joy, my pain, my loss, my gain, all fleeting and my death the only certainty.
That in which I am allowed to find satisfaction, I will.
That in which I cannot, I will respond in accordance to whatever is allotted me.
Through it all, I will await death, knowing that it will, as it is wont to do, come tomorrow, or failing that, come the day after.
But to search for the reason for this moment's laughter or that moment's tears I recognize as only an exercise in frustration for there is no reason that can be made clear to a mind such as mine.
Therefore with brief regret but ultimate relief, I cease attempting to achieve this understanding and I cease to feel slighted at not having been deemed worthy enough to have it revealed to me.
So it is with no small sense of irony, and a certain satisfaction as well, that I end this monologue, knowing as I do that had I continued or had I ceased the flow of my words long ago, the pages on which they are written would crumble into no less fine a dust.
