Veterans Day - time for some wargames, right? Well, my copy of Memoir '44: Hedgerow Hell was stuck in the post office (closed because of - wait for it - Veterans Day) but we still managed to get some wargames on the table.
We also played some other stuff, too - and oohed & ahhed over Monsterpocalypse, the newest money sink to catch Steve & John's eyes.

We took to the high seas with our younger members... it took Zachary a while to get the hang of how to move the ships, but he managed to make a nifty comeback to tie for 2nd place.

Yes, all the hype you've heard about this game is legit - Braeden decided immediately after playing it that it had to be on his Christmas list. (It probably didn't hurt that he won the first game.)
BTW, this is "Poor Man's Crokinole" with Sorry!-like scoring... cool, huh?

Finally, a wargame with the U.S. involved to honor our veterans... well, the first part is right. OTOH, the U.S. got slaughtered, so not so much with the "honoring" part.

- shot down 1 Japanese plane for 5 points
I like to think we delayed an attack on our carrier with the sacrifice of our lives... yeah, that's the ticket.

John & Richard's first time with the expansion - John had the Doomed World to start, Richard had the Separatist Colony, and I had the Damaged Alien Factory. I managed to drop a Contact Specialist early while starting the Produce/Trade chain before it would really benefit either of them. Richard created an exploration monster (see 6/keep 2). John tried pushing the timer with Improved Logistics but I was able to keep up and pull away.

Wayne & I partnered... and since Wayne is related to Jefferson Davis, we were the South. And, btw, suffered the same fate as the South - although we did well early in the war (ehem, trick-taking game), it ended badly for us. (John & Will were Lincoln & Grant aka the North.)

John and I fooled around with this a bit. I need to read through the rules one more time and get familiar with the power attacks and abilities so I can explain it better.
The toys are really cool to look at and the action dice/power dice resource management is a pretty cool mechanic to make this more than just a gimmicky minitures game.
I think we both beat each other's monster down to 3 health in their alpha form and we hadn't got to the hyper form before we jumped into another game. The goal is to defeat your opponents monster in both their alpha and hyper form, think about in a monster movie when the monster is totally beaten down then it gets back up and has a whole new ability with no foreshadowing to that possiblity whatsoever, that's the hyper form.
