The Second Saturday Gamers met on the 3rd Saturday this month. I think the election threw us off or something. So, hot on the heals of some of our members post-obama celebrations, we looked to politically themed games of one kind or another.

Started off with a friendly game of Ca$h 'n Gun$. We played at Danny's so we didn't have access to my sons cache of toy guns (get it, get it?). There was some disappointment about that, but our fingers worked fine. Tyler won the first game. So we played again with the cop. In the first couple of rounds the cop didn't make an appearance so we kind of figured it was Tyler, who I killed on the first couple of rounds (no one ever thinks you'll really shoot the same guy twice in a row on the first two rounds, so I figured, what the heck). Turns out the cop never made an appearance. Caleb (the cop), just decided to go for the money. I don't remember who one this second game. It may have been Nathan.

At this point the tables split. The FOOF (Friends of Obama Faction), Danny, Heath, Tyler and Nathan, celebrated Obama's victory with a replay via the old General Mills classic, Landslide. I think it was called a bit early because someone had to get home (it is a bit of a long game), and Danny was given the victory.

Caleb and I had time while the election was going on to play a couple games of Last Man Standing. Our first game pitted Caleb's Arnold Schwarzenegger vs. my Mr. Bond. In the end Arnold nearly slashed James to death with a knife, but Bond ran to a safe where he fortunately found a shot gun and proceeded to blow Arnold away. It was pretty sweet. For our next game it was Emma Peel and Austin Powers (me - yeah, baby! (I said that a lot)) vs. Jackie Chan and Shaft. Jackie went down early and the two Brits chased Shaft into a corner, but he came up with a machine gun and went down fighting, taking Powers with him, only to be finished off in the end my a heavily wounded Peel. A good game if people don't take too long to think. Caleb compared it to a board game version of Halo.

Later Sara came home and made fun of the box art. It is pretty bad.

Caleb and I also had time to play a couple hands of Banana Republic (Landslide is a long game). We tied. Dirty third-world politics, a nice way to recover from a couple hours of killing the crap out of each other.

We finished with a couple games of Senator. None of us had played before. We used the ending conditions posted by Insomne ( http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/72446 ), and we had a great time. Every decision was tough. They were both bloody and brutal games. Heath won the first one, surprising everyone. We didn't see how close he was. And then he did it again. (It was getting late.) Everyone loved it and it was declared the game of the month (meaning it will be back in December).

I didn't figure the night's big winner last night, so let me do a little math here . . . looks like the scores are as follows:

Danny - 1
Nathan - 1
Caleb - 1
Tyler - 1
Heath - 2
Matt - 3

Of course Caleb and I played 3 more games than everyone else. That's what you get when you have a really simple scoring system. So the Second Saturday Trophy stays at my house for another month.
