Its a funny ol' 'relationship' that I've been forming with The Geek over the past few months and while there are clearly upsides (interesting folk to talk to, shared enthusiasms, challenging debates, a feeling of belonging to something...) there are also downsides (checking the Geek TOO OFTEN, reading extraordinarily tangential lists/reviews, struggling against all odds to get GeekGold, caring too much about stuff that I probably shouldn't...)

So, be straight with me on this - should I get out and count my losses while I still can or dig deeper and see these newbie blues through in order to reach the nirvana of full Geekosity that can only be achieved by breakin' on through to the other side of initial shortcomings?

I am increasingly getting into my games and when I move in a month's time I fully intend to join the local gaming group but I don't want to lose sight of the fact that we talking about GAMES here - not REAL stuff - GAMES!!!!

Once I've let this run for a few days I'll make my decision as to whether to stay or go and then say goodbye or say hello to my future time on the Geek...

(By the way, this move has made me question ALL of my involvements BIG and small and to re-prioritise so that I can refocus on the stuff that matters and to disregard the life-detritus that might be slowing me down in some way...)

Over to you my fellow Geeks - Should I stay or should I go?

Leaving the Geek would mean that I never had to even THINK about this appalling waste of precious hours of my life. When you look up 'pedestrian' in the dictionary there MUST be a picture of this game... cry

Good riddance...

I wouldn't miss dealing with some of the, ahem, 'fellow gamers' who choose to completely disregard the tone and nature of one's post and instead make a personal attack on the individual. No, it doesn't happen often, but its still a drag when it does - boring... snore

I am disproportinately fixated with getting Geek Gold which my wife founds hugely comedic. Getting enough for my avatar was the highlight of my month and lifted my spirits in a way that's probably unhealthy for a grown, rational man...

I would miss the frisson of receiving some and then pre-choosing what I might be able to buy... Oh dear, maybe this isn't such a good thing after all, maybe I need to be freed from this oppression? soblue

Yeah, theres no doubt about it, even after a very short time on the Geek I have met some people who are not merely interesting, intelligent and stimulating but are people that I would already count as friends.

Is this weird to have friends in an online community? Is it like internet dating? I am I being arrogant? Am I wasting time online to the detriment of flesh-and-blood 'real' friends?

Its a tricky business isn't it? cry

Hmmmm, even as I am doing this I realise that I am perhaps taking it all a bit too seriously and need to chill out a bit and just go with the flow...

I am not so good at this though and I MUCH prefer to think stuff through, make a choice and then live with it...

That's it then.

I've got it off my chest and I'll await your insights, arguments and pros and cons for staying or leaving the Geek...

Do others have this for/against attitude to the Geek, what it is and what it does for us/to us or is it just me?

Thanks for reading...
