Another Saturday of gaming at Hero's Alley. David O. wasn't able to make this one, so once again I'm going to need others to fill in their games since I'm always too involved in the games I'm playing to notice anything else around me.

We had over 20 people in attendance throughout the day, with some of us staying past 11 (much thanks to Don who kept the store open for us).

Scott, Jean, Bart and I started out with this new game that seems to bet getting a lot of play. I know it was played at least once more during the course of the day. It was the first time for Scott, Jean and me. I thought it was a pretty good game, and I'll probably add it to my wishlist, but I'll want to play a couple more times before I buy it. Despite the ability to vary the cards, I was concerned whether the game would hold my interest after repeated plays.

Still, it seemed like a good filler. Both Scott and Bart tied for the win.

Jeri wanted to get this game for her grandson, and wanted to give it a try first, so we played a quick two-player game. She did remarkably well for a first time player. In fact, I feared she would get the impression that the game was rather dull, since her ships were so well constructed that she hardly lost any pieces at all during the game.

This was my first time playing with two players, and that does make a difference. If you really enjoy watching ships fall apart as they travel through space (and I do), then I think this game needs to be played with at least 3.

After Dominion, a group of 8 gave this another play. Jenny, Scott, Jean, Afshin, Bart, David M., Jeri and I played the variant where 8 of 9 cards (all but Bob) were passed out, so the unused character was unknown.

If I recall correctly (and my memory is horrible, so I probably don't) Bart (as George) and Jeri (as the Vampire) were the first two to die, thanks to DavidM (the Unknown) and his machine gun. It was at this point we quikcly figured out that the unused character was Daniel, since no one screamed at the first sight of blood. Afshin (Charles) revlealed himself shortly after to use his special power in an attempt to make a kill and win the game, but he was foiled and ultimately killed. Scott (Emi) revealed rather early to use a card and heal himself, and Jean (the Werewolf) started attacking him. Jenny (Franklin) picked up the game quickly for one so young and helped out her fellow hunter by going after her mom, who was killed shortly thereafter. Ultimately the two remaining hunters, along with me (Allie) killed the last Shadow player DavidM (the Unknown), giving the win to the three hunters and Allie.

Unlike prior games, people seemed a little less willing to attack people without knowing who they were. As I recall, Emi (Scott), Franklin (Jenny) and I (Allie) all had only taken a couple points of damage by the end of the game.

My big game of the day was BSG, which saw two six player games be played. In both games, the humans seemed to start out strong. All of the Cylon attack Crisis cards seemed to have gravitated to the bottom of the deck, giving the humans a false sense of hope in the early game. But as the end game came on and the sleeper agents came out, those attack cards made their appearance and the Galactica was overwhelmed in both games.

I think the humans had a good chance of winning in the second game (played by DK, Afshin, Jeff, Lester, JohnW and me) but for some (in hind sight) stupid plays by the human players (sadly, most of those stupid plays came from me). The worst move was probably when I (as a human sympathizer who was still in the brig) decided to use an Executive Order to give DK (who was sitting to my left) two free moves, which he used to reveal himself as a cylon. Since I was playing Baltar, I had already used my cylon detector to prove Afshin (Admiral Adama) was not a cylon. I should have given him the free moves. Basically, I allowed the Cylon to act twice in a row right before a crucial jump, which didn't help matters.

I was glad to see that Bart (in our first game) showed that an unrevealed cylon can cause a lot of damage, and he did a good job remaining hidden until the sleeper phase. We tried twice to put him in the brig, but somehow, even with Tigh's help, we weren't able to succeed.

I've really enjoyed this game all 3 times I've played. Half the fun is calling people a frakkin toaster (in our first game, I suspected everyone but DK of being a toaster on the first turn). It will be staying in my bag for awhile.

In between games of BSG four of us (Jeff, Joe, DK and I) played a quick game of Mykerinos. Unfortunately, I just can't get into this game. I suppose part of the reason is because I do so horribly every time I play.

Afshin, Jim, Phil, and I believe one other were playing this. I don't know if the expansion was being used.

Me, Phil, Jeff and his daughter played a game of stone age while waiting for BSG. I thought I had the game with a few outstanding rolls, and some good card pick up (over 100 points in end game bonuses), but I was lax on hut pick ups and fell behind. Jeff took the win by scoring all 8 artifacts. We were using the 6 new expansion tiles which seemed cool. Not a MUST have, but fun if you've got them.
