It’s not a game\'s deal breaker when you need to keep asking other players what color they are so you can figure out their position on the board or ascertain how things will work out relative to turn order. However, it is a nuisance that can really add up. Games like Ticket To Ride, Settlers Of Catan, and Carcassonne don’t really have this issue. There are enough bits in ones reserve that you can just look at that, and hardly does one run out of them. Other games, having a set of markers to identify what color is playing can go a long way.

up to 6 different colored pawns, but unless you have a great memory, it can be hard to remember who's who. Furthermore, it may behoove someone to get rainbow colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple). It would certainly detract from the Egyptian theme, but I’m not sure I can get exact duplicate colors for the existing pawn pieces, but those would be easier to tell apart from the original colors used.... Black, wood, copper/gold, gray/"off blue", white, maroon/red

This is pretty deep. It helps to know what color an opponent is so you know which direction he’s headed in to win the game. In a 2p game, it’s not an issue. In a 3 or 4p game, it could be hard to keep track. You’ll want to know who goes before/after you, how many barricades he has left, and know which direction he’s going so you can effectively block him off or to place barricades without breaking the game rule of ensuring everyone still has a legitimate way to reach their goal.

Quoridor does not appear to have an Egyptian theme, but using colors in the traditional rainbow may detract from the design and colors of the board. Still, not a huge deal if having a pair of identical colored pieces for play and ID does it’s job.

All of the bits in players’ reserves are black. Otherwise, all of the colored bits are already on the board. Vexation may make this a moot issue, but it’s still possible place all 3 roads of your own color down early on.

The “what color are you?” question didn’t pop up here as much, so this may be a stretch, but it still occurred none of the less. Again, not to wail on "Egyptian colors", but some people are just better served using "traditional rainbow colors".

For a slower moving “roll and move” board game, not so much needed, but with a full compliment of 6 players, perhaps.

for my group of games that I’ve played, we are getting more and more into the “it happens, but not really as much noticeable” zone.

Each player has one marker. It goes on the board, and there's nothing left to note who is what color. To make things more difficult, they are silver, bronze, gold, and black.

So yeah, your team's color disc goes onto the area cards to show where the team is again....

Of course, there is nothing left to indicate who Team Blue or Team Red is anymore...leading to many questions before a fight is accidently started.

I printed up some additional markers for this one.

I ALWAYS have problems with this game, without fail. I mean, the only things that determine your color are the people track and VP markers. I mean, yes you have a colored hand on the back of the cards, but when do you look at the backside of your hand?

That's my only major beef with the game though. Apart from that, it's excellent.

All these different colors in a game where turn order can be pretty important, and no way to know who is what color other than asking them.

Near the beginning of the game, all your pieces are in the boats. It's not until you start losing pieces that you get something in front of you to identify your color for the group.
