They were just simple white envelopes with a single name scrawled on the front of each one. Ten different envelopes in ten different mailboxes. As each envelope was opened, the response was always the same mixture of uneasiness and confusion. The letters all read as follows:

Dear Fellow Geek,

You have been invited to a private gaming session to be held on a secluded island in a luxurious mansion this weekend. You don't need to bring any of your personal games as everything will be provided for you. You need only report to your nearest FLGS at ten o'clock Saturday morning, and you will be escorted to my private estate. I can hardly wait for your arrival.

Sincerely,

An Interested Individual

Upon arrival of these letters, ten geeks' lives were forever altered as they packed their bags and prepared for a date witht the unknown. For most of them, the promise of games was enough. For some, it was the unknown that drew them to the island.

The day of the party, the ten Geeks all stood in the massive foyer of the mansion and glanced around at the strangers that also were in attendance. After a few moments of awkward silence, a hidden wall gave way to reveal a enormous bookshelf with just about every game imagninable resting on it. This quickly eased the tension as games of Race for the Galaxy, Dominion, and Agricola were soon in full swing.

As the games progressed introductions were slowly but surely made and the geeks all realized that they knew each other after all. They were all well known on BGG and for some reason had been called together to this gaming party.

Suddenly without warning, a booming voice came through on a hidden speaker. It was voice that was both welcoming and unsettling.

Welcome Fellow Geeks,

I am so pleased you decided to attend my little party. If you haven't realized it yet, you are some of the finest that BoardGameGeek has to offer. As a man of taste, I only surround myself with the best of the best.

Ten Little Geeks came to play a lot of games
They're not even really sure why they came.

They think that it's all just for fun but they're in for a surprise;
before this gaming weekend's done, they are all going to die.

Each will have a different fate than no one could predict,
so just play your games and ignore the seconds as they tick.

Do not try to leave this place for there is no escape.
Be thankful you'll die happy and make your peace with fate.

The ten geeks just sat in stunned silence.

"I don't understand," Blott said with a hint of despair in his voice. "This can't be happening. Oh well, let's play another game."

And so it went that fateful weekend. The geeks resigned themselves to their fate and played games until each met his grisly demise.

The first death came unexpectedly during a game of Power Grid. EndersGame had just connected his last city. As he reached down to move his score marker, the other geeks gasped in astonishment as his hair began to smoke and he began to jerk violently. And just like that, he was nothing but a smoldering carcass lying on the floor.

The voice immediately came through the speaker again.

Ten littles geeks playing Power Grid
One grabbed the board and flipped his lid

No one knew that game was hot wired
so that the winner would be set on fire.

I hope this doesn't ruin your time,
but sadly now there are only nine.

Aldie spoke up first. "Maybe all the games are designed to kill us at the end, so we should pick long games."

All the other geeks agreed, and some of them started up a game of Die Macher.

They had just finished bidding for the first player, when a large blade came swinging out of the wall and chopped tommynomad's head right off.

"Quick," yelled GROGnads, "grab him and don't let him bleed on the board."

"Hey, since he was first player, can I just be it instead," gola whined.

"No, No, we'll have to bid again," Aldie suggested.

Before the new round of bidding could commence, the voice came over the speaker.

Nine little geeks playing German politics
One went first and his head became unhitched

It's just a game no reason to be sore
But now his head is rolling on the floor

The more people you have to play a game the better it will rate
Sadly, your numbers are dropping fast, now there are only eight.

"So much for your theory,"Blott said to aldie with an air of disgust.

The other group was playing Citadels while all of this Die Macher fiasco was going on. The decapitation of tommynomad did make them pause their game for a moment but not much was made of it.

It was during the assassin's turn, which had been chosen by diis for the fifth time, that the next death ocurred. As diis revealed his role, the other player's groaned with frustration.

"Now there's a shock," wifwendell said.

"Hey, I don't have the backstabber microbadge for nothing," diis said in his defense.

As diis declared that the merchant would be assassinated, a giant spear shot down from the ceiling and impaled manofwarplayer where he sat. The other players quickly turned over his card, but they already knew that he must be the merchant.

The voice was immediately heard once again.

Eight little geeks were playing Citadels
It's really sort of sad, but now one is impaled

Playing games of trechery is always ill advised
If you'll backstab in a game, you'll do it in real life

Now that one of your gaming mates has made his way to Heaven
Take a good hard look around; now there are only seven

"Now that there are only seven of us left, let's play a game all together," Aldie suggested. "Maybe there will be safety in numbers."

No one, including Aldie, seemed to really believe this. GROGnads then suggested a game of RoboRally. All agreed and chaos ensued.

At one point during the middle of the game, Blott asked where the restroom was. Snicholson replied without looking up from his cards, it's down the hall way, first door on the left.

Blott started down the hall and opened the first door on the left. It was completely dark inside. As he was stepping inside, snicholson yelled, "No, wait a minute; it's on the right." Sadly, it was too late. Blott realized too late that there was no floor and the darkness was just part of a bottomless pit. Blott's screams could be heard echoing for a few seconds.

"At least we don't have to clean up anything with him," GROGnads commented, obviously trying to find the bright side of all this.

The voice came immediately thereafter.

Seven little geeks were playing with robots
One took a wrong turn, now there's no more Blott

Be careful where you're walking because without a doubt
Around each and every corner, your life could be snuffed out

It's such a shame to see you geeks looking oh so sick
You will all soon get your chance for now there are only six

After RoboRally was finished, diis made a suggestion.

"I know it's hard to focus with all those games over there on the shelf, but shouldn't we try to do something. At least, shouldn't we try to figure out who is doing this to us."

"I agree. This is insane," Aldie said.

"It reminds me of Mystery of the Abbey," snicholson chimed in. "Who's up for a game of that?" All six agreed and the moment of clarity was lost.

GROGnads was just getting ready to solve the case when a bell rang. "That must be Mass," diis replied jokingly, but before anyone could rise to investigate, a large iron bell fell from the ceiling and crushed GROGnads.

"Oww, that looked painful," snicholson replied. "That's why I don't use big props in my videos."

This voice came through again, this time more ominous than ever.

Six little geeks were working on the case
A bell fell down and smashed one's face

Solving murders is so fun when you're not the one who's dead
It must really suck to have a bell fall on your head

Boy, you geeks are dropping fast, one might say like flies
It's such a shame to watch you go; your group is down to five

The five remaining geeks then struck up a game of Modern Art.

"I suck at auction games," gola protested, but he was out voted.

True to his word, gola was soundly trounced as he could only watch in dismay as snicholson racked up the most money. Winning apparently isn't everything because snicholson immediately disappeared into a trap door that opened underneath him.

"Where did he go?" Aldie asked in dismay.

"Oh, I'm sure he'll turn up,"wifwendell replied. "What's next?" he inquired as he glanced over at the huge collection of games.

"Let's take a short break and get our heads together," diis suggested and the others agreed.

An hour later, snicholson turned up. He was found in a hallway closet completely covered in blue paint.

"He's been suffocated by the paint just like that girl in Goldfinger," gola said.

"Hey, that's a great movie," wifwendell replied excitedly. "I love it when Odd Job throws the hat."

The taunting voice cut him off before he could continue his rambling.

Five little geeks were playing Modern Art
One was painted blue and now he's not so smart

Making little videos might seem likes lots of fun
Many other smarter geeks might have known to run

When you get to play your games, you never will be bored
Excitement does come with a price. The group is down to four.

"This really sucks," wifwendell said with frustrations. "All of our gaming buddies are dying."

"Wake up, man!!" Aldie screamed at wifwendell as he shook him. "We're all going to die!!!"

"Who's up for some Dominion?" diis asked from across the room.

"OK, I'm in," Aldie replied as he suddenly came back to his senses.

Forty minutes later, gola smiled with pride at his at all his provinces. "Looks like I'm the man," he boasted.

"It's all these curses you gave me," diis replied.

"I'm going to the restroom," wifwendell said.

A few minutes later, a scream and the sound of struggling was heard fromthe restroom. The three remaining geeks ran quickly, but it was too late. Wifwendell had been strangled to death as he sat upon the toilet. The "Throne Room" card from Dominon was at his feet.

"He was killed on the throne," gola stated as he realized the significance of the card.

As if on cue, the voice started.

Four little geeks building up their decks
One in the crapper got a cord around the neck

Building up a kingdom can really be a thrill
Just watch out for all those little things, especially those that kill

Time is almost at an end as anyone can see
Four geeks sat down to play a game and now there are only three

"Well it looks like there's just three of us left," diis stated calmly. "How about some Tigris and Euphrates? That's a good three player game."

"I love Tigris and Euphrates," Aldie replied.

It was half way into the game that he appeared. He strode directly into the room without notice and smashed diis in the head with an oversized figure of Ra.

"You play Knizia, you die by Knizia," he said as he stood over the lifeless body of diis. Of course there was no need for the speakers this time, the madman delivered the rhyme first person.

Three little geeks playing T & E
One looked up and saw little ole me

Diis had some red tiles. What a shame?
From his position, it looks like he would've won the game

Now the time is very near for you to pay your dues.
It seems your little gaming group has dwindled down to two.

Aldie and gola just stared at the man who wore a black robe with a hood that completely concealed his face.

"Hey, I think it's Death," gola whispered to Aldie. "I wonder if he'd be up for a game of Race for the Galaxy."

"You fools!!!" the hooded figure bellowed, "Can you think of nothing but games? I have been killing you all one by one, but you continue to play your games as if nothing is wrong. What is wrong with you people? I thought this would be a challenge."

"We have a problem," gola whispered sheepishly. "I don't think we can help ourselves."

"And what do you have to say for yourself, Aldie. After all you are responsible for this mockery of a man that stands beside you."

Aldie could only stand speechless.

"On top of your pathetic addiction, you only play Euro afte stinking Euro. Where is the Ameritrash? Where is the player interaction?"

"What about RoboRally?" Aldie pleaded, "That has plenty of interaction. Hey, wait a minute? Are you Barnes?"

"You're pathetic," the killer stated with disgust. "No, I'm not Barnes, I am someone much more terrifying."

With this final statement, the figure proceeded to remove his hood.

"Mr. Skeletor!" gola stated with shock, "I should have known it was you."

"Yes, you should have." Mr. Skeletor said as he quickly kicked a secret lever on the wall that sent gola sliding down a secret chute into a pit of quicksand."

Two little geeks trying not die
The floor opened up and took one for a ride.

Quicksand is not very fun in real life or the game
Gola's gone to meet his fate, it's really quite a shame.

"But why? What have you gained?"

"I gain the comfort of knowing that I destroyed some of the greatest minds that BGG has ever known, and you had to watch it. I gain the satisfaction of watching you die."

With the quickness of a cat, MrSkeletor produced a knife from under his robe and quickly charged at aldie. A few moments later, aldie lay in a crumpled heap on the floor.

One little geek playing all alone
One moment here, the next he's gone.

Playing solo's quite the bore; it's really kind of sad
And watching someone play Euros really makes me mad

Now this little tale is at its close, hasn't it been fun
I look around the empty house and notice there are none.
