Inspired by Joe Huber, I decided to publish my own top designer list. I computed this mathematically, by reviewing all games I've rated 7 or higher. I assigned 1 pt. for a 7; 3 pts. for an 8; 5 pts. for a 9; and 7 pts for El Grande (my sole 10).

Here they are:

Martin Wallace has been rising in my estimation over the past couple years. Brass and Age of Steam are the cream of the crop, but he has a large number of games I rate a 7. So long as its not a silly/casual crowd, I'm very likley to suggest a title from my roster of his games: Brass, Byzantium, Perikles, Princes of the Renaissance, Struggle of Empires, Tempus, Tinners' trail, or Volldampf. I also like Age of Steam, Conquest of the Empire, Liberte, and Railroad Tycoon, but do not own these.

Martin Wallace garnered 18 points in my tabulation.

Wolfgang Kramer scores big with me for the existance of El Grande, my sole "10". I also enjoy Viva Pamplona!, Tikal, Mexica, and Princes of Florence.

Wolfgang Kramer scored 11 points in my tabulation, mostly based on my very high regard for El Grande.

Uwe Rosenberg wins the #3 position on the strength of two games: Agricola and Bohnanza. I've played others by him, and am unconvinced. Le Havre was a big let down for me, but I do intend to try again.

Uwe scored 10 points in the tabulation.

Reiner Knizia's games often leave me a bit cold. But they do generally work, and ocassionally I like them enough to buy a copy. But Reiner Knizia gains #4 in this list simply by volume. I rate ten different games from Reiner Knizia a 7: Beowulf, Blue Moon City, Carcassonne Castle, Galaxy, Ingenious, New Games in Old Rome, Ra, Res Publica, Samurai, and E&T.

This racked up 10 points for Reiner Knizia - but Uwe Rosenberg wins the tie with his higher rated games.

Francis Tresham hasn't designed all that many games. But the games he's given the world have proven very influential. I am especially enjoying 1830 these days, and now hope to get into 1853 as well. I am also fond of Civilization (Regular and Advanced), Revolution, and 1829 Mainline.

Francis Tresham scored 9 points in the tabulation.

Karl-Heinz Schmiel gets a lot of credit with me for the way each of his games is TOTALLY different than any other game he has previously written. He must have an ethic that he will not reuse an idea once published. Of course my favorite game of his is Die Macher. But I also enjoy Extrablatt, Tyranno Ex, and Was Sticht?

Karl-Heinz Schmiel scored 6 points in the tabulation.
