I could probably think of a better title to distinguish this geeklist from other food-themed lists. I'll take suggestions!

This list is composed of games that can be played with the food at the dinner table. You won't have any boxes, bits, cards, boards, etc... just your food and dinner ware.

My college friends and I used to play a game we called "Split Pea Quadropod," which was very similar to Calvinball (http://www.bartel.org/calvinball/) in that the rules were made up on the spot.

I'm wondering if anyone else out there has after dinner rituals that have turned into a game of some kind. Please add!

The first thing that comes to mind. Can you use your mashed potatoes and peas to craft clever koans?

I doubt I would ever let this game be played in my house today, but I remember playing it in my friend's house as a teenager! His mom was not very happy to discover pudding dripping through their christmas tree the next day.

Note that we played with spoons and pudding, not the actual game pieces.

I know of no such occurrence, but it seems like a variant of this could be played at a dinner table. It might be interesting to use food as fuel for spells, especially when urging kids to eat stuff they wouldn't normally eat. "You can't cast Fireball unless you eat a mouthful of peas!"

A couple of times a year in late summer, my mom would make plum dumplings. My brother and I would race to see how many we could eat, and we'd keep track by lining the leftover plum pits on the side of our plate.

I won most of the time, but not always.

The winner got heartburn.

It would take some planning & careful shopping, but you could play Wasabi using only what's at the table
