Another Saturday event at the library. Not as many people showed up as I expected, but there were easily over 20 of us there. As is normally the case with me, I get too involved in the games I'm playing and didn't notice much of what was going on around me, so please add the games I've missed and your comments.

This game has been getting a lot of play lately, and I know it was played at least twice today (one version was the "zombie theme" variant). I got in one 3 player game near the end of the evening and came in dead last (other players were Afshin, who won, and DK). I don't know what it is about this game, but I just never seem to do well in it. Still, its a decent filler.

Jeff has been wanting to get this one to the table for some time, and a group of 10 early arrivals gave it a go. The game is another "figure out who is who" sort of game along the same line of Werewolf, Shadow Hunters, or Bang. I liked the game. It's more of a brain-burner than Shadow Hunters, and provides more solid evidence upon which to make your conclusions than Werewolf (I can't compare to Bang, since I've never played that).

I was on the Brotherhood team, and eventually figured out 3 of my 4 teammates (Jerri, DK, and Joe). I suspected my last teammate was Anton, but I couldn't be sure, because he made some strange actions that seemed to suggest he may be helping the other side. Our goal was to successfully "declare" where 3 of 4 hidden goblets were as long as they were in possession of Brotherhood teammates. I figured out where the 3 were, but had to wait for my turn to make the declaration. Before I could, Anoton took one of the known goblets from Jerri (I didn't know that Jerri also had the 4th goblet). I now knew that I had one goblet, DK had another, and Anton had the third, but I wasn't sure if Anton was a member of the Brotherhood. If I declared now and Anton was not on the Brotherhood, we'd lose, but I figured I had to take the chance. It turned out he was and the Brotherhood won the game.

Other players were Jeff, Jen, Scott, Jean and Nadir.

My current favorite game to play, I got in another two games of this (one six player and one four player). Both games resulted in the death of humanity by a fairly large margin.

The six player game included Afshin, Joe, James, Antone, and DK (Afshin, as Gaius, got dealt both Cylon cards). I got to peek at one and he was sent to the brig, but he revealed and passed the other one to Joe (the Chief). Antone was the sympathizer and the sleeper phase came too quick for us to "tank" one of our rescources, so he was a cylon as well. The remaining humans were just overwhelmed. In fact, we were so preoccupied and had so few cards that we never had the chance to throw Joe in the Brig. He never revealed (though we knew he was a cylon) and kept moving civilian ships into cylon raiders. Not that it would have mattered if we could have stopped him. Sorry Jeff, but Afshin just proved that getting delt both cylon cards at the beginning is winnable.

Second game consisted of Afshin, DK, Joe and me. Afshin (Tom Zarek) was again the Cylon and revealed early. We got food into the red so the sympathizer was human, but the extra help could not save humanity. With at least two jumps left we had 3 resources at 1 or 2 and just couldn't hold off the onslaught.

DK brought this game, and Antone, James, Afshin and I gave it a go. I liked the game, but wish it could have gone another turn or two (it would be very easy to change the victory condition to make this game last longer). The diplomatic element of the game appealed to me. Essentially everyone has a deck of cards that is only useful if used by other players, so the first thing done each turn is a 4 minute trading session where you try to get deals done to get other people's cards (I would also like to see this trading time increased).

I made an all-out attempt to get to 63 points (60 points triggers the victory condition) and was then knocked back to 60 exactly, but DK came out of no where and won with 72.

I am told this Saturday favorite was played, although they finished so quickly I never even saw it. I'm sure RT-regulars Scott, Jean, and David M. were among the players.
