Here we are again, a year has passed since my first Rookie of the Year geeklist (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/28090).

This is to highlight the rookie designers that ranked highest for 2008. This list includes the top 10 rookies of the year as determined by the rank of their game as of the end of 2008.

To qualify as a rookie of the year, a designer must have no games dated (on the game's BGG page) before 2008. A designer may have multiple games in 2008 and still qualify as a rookie for 2008, though his position in this list will be determined by the BGG rank of their highest ranked game.

Happy New Year geeks! Here's looking forward to the new crop of games coming in 2009!

Congratulations to this year's Rookie of the Year, showing a tremendous accomplishment for any designer. Dominion finishes out 2008 at the #6 spot (beating last year's Rookie of the Year by 7 points)!

Hmm, still no microbadge for such a prestigious honor?

Didn't have to look far to find the runner up rookie of the year!

Uwe Eickert's first offering in the Conflict of Heroes series finished out the year at a very respectable 33 (finishing almost 100 higher than last year's Runner Up).

Breaking out of the top 100 we find #3 on the list of 2008's top rookies.

Jeff Horger has 2 games released in 2008, GMT's Manoeuvre (which finished 2008 ranked at 153) and the as yet unranked The Storm Breaks.

2008 is the year Steve Finn went all in with 3 of his games, publishing them in small runs as Doctor Finn's Card Company. Fellow geeks responded favorably and rated Scripts & Scribes a respectable 381.

And now for the special bonus feature you're all waiting for, this year's Sophomore of the Year! Antoine Bauza takes the honor for Ghost Stories (ranked 173). Antoine's rookie effort was last year's unranked Chabyrinthe.
