Another good Colorado night where we began playing in40 degree weather and finished with 2 inches of snow. We must be a good group because Laurin came from Florissant to join us then headed back at 1:30 AM in the snow..into the mtns!

It was another dream night with many of my favorites played and a perfect mix of light and heavy games. We had what by all accounts was the meanest game of Dominion ever played by any of us. I finally added some cheap games to the collection including Rumis and Sorry Sliders. I'm glad I spent the 15$ because I've already got my money's worth.

Kirsten, my drunk manager, was back at work and nobody got as silly as they did on New Years Eve. Coffee Mike is again, nowhere to be seen, and Ceiligh was recovering from the flu that she contracted in Denver.

So I invited Draven (Mario) over for to teach him RFTG and Dominion at 3ish. We'll it backfried as I had to watch all 3 kids for a while and that was not good for a heavy shuffling game. Mario, an ex Magic player, took to it like his thief card to silver and we compulsively played 3 games back to back. I think i won all three but the second one was close. He said he could play it all day, and I concur it was a ton of fun. Mario got some crazy card combos in a couple games but was lacking in money.

Another favorite, and a recent Xmass gift, we got RFTG to the table as my 3 children decided to recreate the "rebel homeworld or "pirate world" cards.

I couldn’t seem to teach this very well, and I remember my first 3-5 confusing games. Mario was kind of lost but I think he could appreciate the game. I still think we'll get in a ton of games in the future. With that my wife returned with pizza and Laurin arrived having called a few hours earlier.

We chit chatted for a while about all things euros and I went to reign in my children.

A spur of the moment purchase at Wal MArt. Played it once so I knew it would be a hit.

My son joined us for 2 games and my wife got in on a partial third. Hannah didn’t quite calibrate to the long board but she said she'd try it later. My son got very good, very quick, and it was a little scary at how fast he learned. No winners, just good fun on these games.

Laurin brought a good mix of games he thought the ladies would enjoy and Hannah curious remark about this box landed it on the table. I mentioned something bout a brain burner and Hannah was scared. It was a feast for the brain, but my wife really enjoyed it. What seems like a really unbalanced game usually ends in a completely tight finish.

The best move was when Laurin showed Hnanah she could hose him and Kirsten with a polar bear: she did and I thought I had the game. Everyone came right back and Laurin got the win with me and Kirsten one move behind, Hannah was 2 moves behind. This seemed to be a hit and the pretty ice tiles won the ladies over as did the clever gameplay.

Ahh my favorite game. So fast and so fun.
Laurin paid top dollar for a string of 20s and destroyed us. Kirsten kepyt up her ability to NOT break 40 pts!!! Its a sad running joke but still hilarious.

Recently received in a trade, I've been wanting to try this for ages since my wife love gardening and landscaping as do I.

It plays pretty simple but there is a TON of setup and we didn’t quite grasp everything at first. We decided to omit playing with weeds since we didn’t understand them totally. The game is a little weird and the ladies were criticizing the lack of strategy. Id defended it, and we played it out. At the end we realized there were quite a few things going on including the ability to score crucial gifts from neighbors. We all agreed that a few simple house rules would add the strategy needed to tale this game to the next level. As is, it's pretty dry. The weeds will help but I see them as just more frustrating than anything. Also, I can’t believe the price for a homemade game that isn’t even that revolutionary or exciting and doesn’t play two. The game is complicated enough that many nongamers wives who like gardening will be scared off, but it's not deep enough to hold many deep gamers. We'll play it one more time with weeds, then throw in our house rules, for what I know will be a cool game.

The theme and simple gameplay (once we got it) do prove to make for a neat game that many may like just for the theme, as my wife mentioned.

Hannah won 17 to Kirsten 14 to my 13 and Laurin first loss (finally) with 10!!

So began the nastiest game of Dominion ever. We wanted something quick as a change of pace from GC.

Laurin drew at random:
Thief
Spy
no moat
market
lab
No big deal.

Then Laurin went into the thief, so Hannah and Kirsten followed and all chaos reigned. I was generating quite an engine too until the thieving began. I concentrated on labs and markets to avoid the thief but at one point all the low money was gone. The trash pile was enormous!!! It was frustrating at first then hilarious as we lamented our misfortunate and tried to end the game. I had a couple of three's that stayed safe and with my markets I was bale to land a couple 6ers as well as some 3 and 1 pt combos. Our 20 minute game turned into 1 hour of frsutration and laughter.

I won with 35 to Laurins 27. Poor Kirsten's engine never kicked in, and I reminded Lauring we want the ladies to like the game. We vowed never to play without the moat when we had the thief was in play: ever again.

This game rules!

Our favorite 1903 release again. After the marathon game of Dominion Kirsten got to pick. She asked for Pit and I went tot the basement to fetch it. We tried to play to 190 and that even took too long. We got flax out and then it was Hay that kept getting scored. Finally we agreed to a last round and Kirsten won legitimately. I did horrible as did Lauin while both ladies had 110+. It was still tons of fun as cards flew everywhere and we had some late rounds "f%^&, five five five!!"

We tossed this out with the adults and played the simple version with all 4 ppl sitting. Kirsten and I tied for the win. It was much faster but not quite as much fun as the long runway version.

My other xmass gift now had to hot the table. I didn’t realize it was from the designer of For Sale. Kirsten thought it was more confusing than it looked but the rest of us talked trash and had a good time. I couldn’t believe Laruin bested us again 42 to my 35 to Hannah's 32. Again another Dorra game with excellent SAS!!!

Was it late? Yes
Was it snowing?
Yes
Did we play on?
Of course!
Laurin drew this out at 12 and I thought it was a big mistake. As he explained it our eyes rolled into our heads so we decided to just play. I'm glad we did because this game is awesome! It has such cool mechanics and such interesting decision for a silly looking pirate race game.
The end eally increased my rating. I thought I had it but Hannah took the win. Laurin cheap ass Doug strategy didn’t pay off and he got dead last!!
Hannah-134
Kirsten- 132
Wade-113
Laurin- 96

With that Laurin finally left. I hope he got home safely as the snow was starting to pile up and it was very late.

But did we end it.. of course not!

Time's Up Title Recall had to hit the table at 1:20 am. Kirsten smartly chose only 24 cards and Hannah proceeded to destroy us into little pieces. She is too darn good at this. At one point the ladies got so many points that I joked it came down to who could get the tard (me) to guess their clues.

A fun end to an excellent night!
