Inspired by Lori's list.
2008 seems to be the year I jumped into the hobby head first. I purchased the most games and logged the most. I turned a few family members into full time gamers as well.
I will list the best new games I found during 2008.

January
A huge month for me - new games coming in from Christmas.
Power Grid was my 2007 Secret Santa gift and it was an immediate hit.
The competition: 1960: The Making of the President - a very close second Carcassonne - a very close third Master Labyrinth - not my cup of tea -- couldn't see far enough ahead Gargon - I remember having a good time with this one Ticket to Ride - I can see how people really like this series Guatemala Café - Would've liked to change one move I made in this game Thunder Road - fun smash 'em up game

March
A 25 games played month.
My father bought this for me as a gift from Prezcon. He knew I enjoyed Carcassone and this is basically carc in space. We played a few games and it is definately a fun game.
The competition: Black Death - I thought this game would be a hoot. I don't remember much of it though, only played 2P. Proabably better with more. Kill Doctor Lucky - the theme was very intriguing, the gameplay was kinda meh

April
29 games played this month.
Notre Dame was a game from my Christmas order -- shame on me for waiting this long on this one. I really like this one. It ranks 9 in my top ten. I wish I could play it more on the table, but the extended family REALLY hates the rats.
The competition: Amun-Re - taught myself this one on SBW. Still playing, still trying to learn - good find. Rail Baron - father taught my wife and I this one -- she likes it a lot more than I do. Lie, Cheat & Steal - didn't really like this

May
A new record for games played at 42 for me.
This game was as close to an auction party game as there is. We had a fun time with the "actors" and "movies". I don't think it'll see much more table time though, which is a shame as it's a very fun game.
The competition: Biblios - awesome game Pacific Typhoon - fun card game Catan Histories: Struggle for Rome - fun catan style game

June
Yet another new record for me - 47 logged plays.
Blokus came to me through facebook. An application called BlockBust. I had it on my wishlist for a while and just got it for Christmas (so there's an example of an online app leading to a sale).
Very fun, taught the mrs. in about 10 seconds and she enjoys playing it now as well.
The Competition: Mexica - I'm a fan of Tikal, so I thought this was a must. I like it, but don't play it enough. Risk - honestly, never played it before. I played a version online.

July
Continued to up the bar in terms of plays with 66.
A birthday bundle game for me - and shame on me for waiting the month and a half to break this out. Currently sitting at 3 in my top ten. Just a great game that the extended family also enjoys. I also like playing on GTO.
no other new games

August
Not surprisingly a new record for plays thanks to WBC week - 73 logged. A good goal to shoot for next August - 100.
Learned this while at WBC.

was the GM of this event and I decided it was a good idea to play. I watched my father play a gentleman named Marshall, and it took all of 5 minutes of watching to get a grasp of it. I probably won't get to play much outside of WBC, but I do look forward to drafting a better team and competing this August.
No competition:
The Princes of Florence comes close, but it was only a demo at the WBC. No logged plays.

September
What happened this month? 26 logged, must've been busy with something.
This Birthday bundle game took a while to come in and it was worth the wait. Thanks to Boardgames with Scott I had a grasp on the rules. I also was able to attend a demo at WBC run by

Life is a Journey, Not a Destination
I've since upgraded my cubes to rail critters and have gotten my extended family into the game as well.
The Competition:
El Capitán - a very good game. Tycoon - played an online application after playing El Capitan. I'm glad they changed the rules they changed.

October
Back up to my average -- 40 logged plays.
Another big month for new plays. I really liked this game as a 2P game and am eager to get the extended family into it for more player interaction/blocking. Deserves a spot in my top 10, but ranks just outside.
The competition: Java - sadly fell flat with 2P. Needs 4. Archaeology: The Card Game - this was one fun card game. Highlanders - not the best combat driven game I've tried TrilogĂa del Destino: Linaje - this was pretty fun Anno 1701: Das Brettspiel - another fun catan style game

November
55 logged plays, including a personal best 17 day log streak and 19 out of 20 streak.
Very fun game that I learned on the table but translated to Yucata with my father. One of the games we enjoy a lot online.
The Competition: College Basketball Dynasty - my first print and play. Very enjoyable. Power Grid: China/Korea - VERY tough market in Korea.

December
The birth of my son and traveling for the holidays = 29 logged. Not the worst month, or even the second worst though. So all in all, very successful.
The Competition: Tomb - I recommended this for my brother in law for Christmas. Fun dungeoncrawl.
