I tried to create a geeklist that considered which games have been the best games of all-time (excluding most of the recent Eurogames as those statistics seemed to unbalance the final list).

http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/38284

I think I'll try this again but allow everyone to vote for their favorites.

My only two requests are that all voters attempt to vote (if possible) for a mix of games from several categories: abstract, traditional card games, dice games, classic games, dexterity games, fantasy games, science fiction games, civilization games, train games, tactical wargames, strategic wargames, and the most important Eurogames, and that one attempts to include a large number of games that have stayed popular for more than just a few years and a number of games that have been important milestones in the history of gaming.

The vote counting will use the same voting method as
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/geeklist/23477. Feel free to add your own selections.

1. Vote using the green thumbsup icon at the bottom of the item for your favourite selections. (Add comments to influence others.)
2. If you strongly disagree with a selection then you can add a comment with a thumbsdown in a comment selection below. (Add comments to influence others.)

I'll add the first five from the previous geeklist to start things off.

Use photos of the game from an early popular edition whenever possible...

Original 1935 game. Currently ranked 4998th.

You know the game. Roll & move. Buy/auction properties. Develop them. Rinse, repeat.

This may not get MY vote. But since it is probably the most-known game in the western world outside of chess, it should have a spot on the ballot.

And if you were voting in 1940, your choices available might make this game look better!

The only game in which I don`t miss anything: The "Chinese chess".

Larger than chess (90 instead of 64 positions) and faster: After two or three moves you are right in the battle, that lasts until the end. Almost never you will an agonizing endgame occcurs with only a couple of pieces running around the board (one advantage of the "realistic" fortress the general=king doesn`t leave) ...

Cool things like the cannon capturing "jumping" over one other piece or the "deathly view" from the general.

Deep strategy; the rules did not change for at least 1,000 years and for a good reason - they are perfect.

Many, many people play it - and still more and more due to online playing possibilities, international associations, etc.

1959 -- ranked #4005

A classic that spawned a legion of similar titles, Risk obviously ranks among the most successful strategy games of all time. Not a highly regarded title among the serious players here on BGG but...
