Here are my favorite designers with at least three base games to their credit, ranked by my own designer metric. The metric goes as follows, dodging division by zero where appropriate:

r × W / SQRT(g)
where r is the percent of the designer's games and expansions I've rated,
g is the number of games and expansions the designer is credited on BGG,
and W is the modified Whitmore-style score for that designer, defined as follows:

W = sum[ (myRating - neutralRating)² × SIGN(myRating - neutralRating) / 2.025 ]
where neutralRating is 5.5.

Here are W's values for the standard integer ratings:

1 -10.0
2 -6.05
3 -3.09
4 -1.11
5 -0.12
6 0.12
7 1.11
8 3.09
9 6.05
10 10.0

Please note: These ratings merely indicate how the designers' games tend to strike me, and are not a rating of the designer himself/herself. Most designers I've met are quite delightful!

I've always been a fan of Uwe's work, but Agricola et al and Le Havre have boosted him to the top. Before those, his score was a mere 4.06, which still would have been a respectable 6th place.

Klaus-Jürgen Wrede gets some slightly unfair credit, because he is listed as a designer of several Carcassonne remakes; on the other hand, they are merely mutations of his design, so perhaps the credit is totally due. Anyway, although the vast majority of his score is Carcassonne-related, he has some other solid designs, as well.

Richard is one of those noteworthy U.S. designers. I'm a huge RoboRally fan.

Despite its wallet-vacuuming nature, Magic: The Gathering is undeniably brilliant. Much of the credit goes to the ongoing R&D that explores not just the mechanisms, but also the lore and philosophy of the game. Nonetheless, it was a brilliant design that's only gained more polish and shine.

I also appreciate the cleverness of design in Filthy Rich and Pecking Order.

William exploded out of nowhere with the revolutionary and wonderful Caylus. His qualification for this list is a little dubious, though, since one of his three base games is Caylus Magna Carta; however, although it is essentially a card game of Caylus (as one could infer from the name), the feel is rather different, and more confrontational.

Tai Chi Chuan hasn't received great ratings, but it sounds like one of those games that I will rate more highly than the BGG average. Even so, my rating of that game will very likely pull William down the list a little, since outstandingly good and incredibly bad games have more swing than average ones in this crazy little rating system.

I really like good abstracts, but I'd never been addicted to one. With Kamisado, I've never found an opponent who's wanted to keep playing when I was ready to quit: I always outlast them - which is not to say that I'm always winning at that point; nor am I always losing!

Bernd sneakily publishes some games under a pseudonym that honors those who helped with the development and/or publication thereof. Stone Age is no slouch, and I have a strange affinity and respect for the fascinating mechanism in Radar Flop that has the players feeling like they're dodging cogs in some stratospheric machine.

Simple does not necessarily equal bad, just as complex does not necessarily equal good.

It would be years before I played another game (Power Grid) with so many interesting trade-off choices. He's also the man behind another rather good game in which [gameid-2651] seems to have roots: Medieval Merchant I keep hope that like Karsten Hartwig, Christwart will please us with another design years later.
