I haven't played a lot of Splotter games, because frankly there aren't a lot of Splotter games. However in my experience they are a different breed, made of different stuff than your average euro.

Here are some distinctive features

a) Very limited print runs
b) A distinctive sketch like artistic style
c) Epic in natutre with lots and lots of bits
d) Intricate and detailed, one might argue the games are even a little eccentric.

Still it takes something special to stand out in the current market and these guys certainly do. Please add more items from the illustrious Splotter manifesto.

This is my personal favourite though it is such a 'huge' game that I have only played the once. Huge in the sense that it has a massive box, millions of cardboard pieces, and an epic scale to it.The board itself can have several hundred different spaces to it.

Antiquity does a couple of things very well. It allows you to build your city physically like a game of tetris in the same way Princes of Florance does, except bigger and better. It also allows for multiple winning criteria and plenty of replayability.

I was kindly gifted a copy of this and I didn't know what a treasure I had. This game shows a huge amount of care and attention have been pored into the degsign. The game suffers at a detailed level from a certain amount of fiddliness (as does Antiquity for that matter) but that is perhaps part of the charm.

As with other Splotter games there are multiple paths to victory and radically different strategies are pulled together. And the highlight is always the mergers, aquisitions, auctions phase. The landscape changes instantly.

This is hot off the press from Essen and I am yet to play it. But my friend picked up a copy and raves about it. It seems to hold the same distinctives of other Splotter games (http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/391303)

Can't wait to play.

The elder statesman of the family, this is something of a classic. It is also huge and the only reason I don't own it is the several hundred dollars it would cost to get it across the Pacific ocean. We may not have snakes in New Zealand, but we also don't have large specialist strategy games .

From the entry description:
Prior to Essen 1999, a group of students created Splotter Spellen to sell some of their own game designs. This game is regarded as one of the highlights of that group. The object of the game is to deliver as many people to their destinations as you can. To accomplish this, players place route markers on the board to connect passengers to their destinations. However, the destination types (work, bar, home) vary from turn to turn, so you can follow certain passengers as they make their way through the daily grind.

This is one splotter game I don't have..yet.
It does look interesting enough to add to my collection, I just haven't got around to adding it yet.
