My first time playing this (possibly Kevin and Chris's as well). I think I need a bit more game experience to get the hang of the I cut you choose set up. Similar problem with auction games, I have no clue what stuff is worth the first game.

Dave got an early double doge scoring a region by himself twice for 14 points. For the rest of the game, he was the designated target which mostly counted for his last place standing. Kevin mostly went with a strategy of avoiding the number cards (I forget their real name). He got 10 points that way in the first round alone. This jumped him from last to first and he became a target for a while. I approached this game like I do El Grande and tried to have a presence everywhere for cheap 2nd place points. I think the regions are more dynamic in this game though. Seemed like anytime I had 2nd place by a cube, I wound up being tied for 2nd in scoring (getting nothing).

I think Chris won mostly through great use of his "not a target" impression.

Kevin practically ran away with the game due to a long chain of houses (7?) with a fortification. Dave and I never played our forts. Chris had a 4 chain with a fort all in the purple region and did some nice envoy work. I got into the envoy game about a turn to late. The game end really caught me by surprise.

Ross vs Dave D

Ross concedes at half time.

The score was still 0 - 0, but the body count was 6 - 0 in Dave's favor.

Ross continues to try and fulfill playing all top 100 ranked BGG games.

Kevin's request for the day. We played on the China map. We were going to use the 2nd power plant deck, but I wasn't sure how that would work with the China special rules (removing certain plants from the game).

Someone got silly and included the big expensive region in the north west and the rather less expensive region in the north east was excluded.

I accidentally read the 2 player chart for the resources the first round. That quickly got fixed. Chris started in the south of the map, Dave in the north, Kevin on the east, and me pretty much in the middle. I made an early play to cut off both Dave and Kevin (with only 1 city!). We leap frogged each other for a round, then step 2 started. Kevin specialized in trash plants and nuclear. Dave was nothing but coal and Chris was nothing but oil (I may have that reversed). I grabbed the first wind plant and was thankful I had a hybrid plant since I could never predict resource prices. There were times when oil was cheap and coal was non-existent and other times the reverse.

Chris hung back on plant capacity which I think ultimately defeated him. He aggressively bid on the 50 plant in the last round and had enough money to build to 17 cities. He won the 50 plant, but that only put him at 16 capacity. Me and Kevin were sitting at 13 cities at the time. I managed to build 4 cities that turn (with 7-8 money left over). I wasn't sure I would be able to do it. Kevin only had enough to build 3 cities to tie Chris. We were running a bit late at this point so game cleaning started happening before I could cash in hand for the tie breaker. I think Kevin had more money though.
