Always a popular game at MSG, we started out Saturday, 7 February, with a pair of five-player games. Bill Nitsche only won one of them.

A special request in honor of Mike Snively's birthday, it didn't work out so well for him. Mike, Bill, Chuck Monson and John Edwards made up the game. Everyone thought Bill would win but John pulled it out at the end.

Bob, Hugo, Luther and Quinn started the day off with this. I can't tell you who won the first game, but poor Alex got buried someplace obscure in Syria. Then they played it again and things went completely differently. All-in-all, a solid eight hours of gaming pleasure.

Scot McConnachie and I continued our game of this. We've made good progress on the game. The UN is currently in pursuit of the North Koreans around Pyongyang in mid-November 1950. But the Red Chinese loom on the horizon....

And the day finished with a quick four-player turn at St Pete's, another favorite at the club.

Charlie and I played this on Wednesday the 11th. I took the French, and Charlie had the allies. The Allies tried for a heavy push up the main road and on that side, but got stalled out, and an overlooked cavalry continuation caught Bagration in the flank, sending him back in confusion. After a little bit of tricky maneuver as Murat and Van Damme extracted themselves in order from an Allied flanking attempt, it settled down into a grind on the central plain, and the clock started running out on Allies. They attempted to get things moving with a desperate guard attack, but it was repulsed, breaking Allied morale. An excellent game as always!

This was my request, on the board that I recently printed out. We played a five handed game, and didn't quite finish in five hours. I won because we called it early. If we had played it out until the bank broke Mike would have won by a wide margin.

I taught this one to Scot, Chuck, Randall and John on Tuesday. I'd say it went over quite well. Randall pulled out the win thanks to his multiple Craftsman clients.

Another Tuesday night special, I was completely destroyed in this one. I just couldn't end up on the right side of a merger, so I was quickly out of money. I believe Randall may have won this one too.

Attendance was light on 2/14 due to Valentine's Day and this was the big game of the day. Scot McConnachie and Chuck Monson took the French, Justin took the Spanish and I took the British. Some fierce fighting swirled around Madrid in 1812-3. 1814 saw the armies lined up on the Ebro. While I goofed and didn't pre-empt with the British to get across the river (there was a Spanish flag in Tarragona), strong reinforcements in the interphase emboldened my Brits and we crossed to a major battle in Huesca. Unfortunately, the French had apropos cards and the resulting battle of Huesca saw the Allied army group defeated. Eventually the British were able to break across the Pyrenees and the Spanish ran amuck in France. The game ended short of an automatic Allied victory - the French still had four duchies on the board, including a fortress in Spain - but the Spanish pulled off the win. Congratulations to Justin for two wins on his first visit to MSG.

We've played a few sessions of this. In the last game Randall made an impressive Great Leap Forward, building six cites to close and win the game.

John Edwards (Axis) and Mike Snively (Allies) spent the 21st slugging it out. At the end, the situation favored the Allies.

Originally it looked like the 28th would feature a game of Wellington but Chuck Monson's timely arrival converted it into a game of Nappy Wars, with Chuck as the Austrians, Bob as the British, Luther as the French, Mike Snively as the Prussians, and Quinn as the Russians. I'm a little unclear on what precisely happened, as I was busy plotting against the UN. The first turn seemed to sway back and forth with no truly notable success for any country. The second turn saw the Prussians intervene on the side of the Coalition, and the Prussians and Turks went a-ridin and a-whoopin through Europe. Those sneaky French were able to seize Berlin with an army under Napoleon (rather battered after unfortunate experiences in Austria) and the play of Capitulation forced Prussia out of the war. Europe Exhausted brought the game to an end and Britain was able to eke out a win.

The Nappy Wars crew moved on to an introductory game of this. They seemed to enjoy it and Bob won a second victory to accompany his Nappy Wars win.
